Instead of a group of monkeys doing tricks for treats. It gives monkeys an agency that they lack, which as you said contributes to reflexive personification.

Which ties back into June's bear tangent in that campers attacked by bears engage in actions that are foolhardy by assuming that bears can differentiate between trash and food. Like they were Yogi's institutionalized cousin who just got out of bear jail and wants your pic-a-nic basket. Which is dangerous but in actuality probably owes far more to self centered idiocy of said people than an assumption of intelligence on the behalf of local wildlife by them.

And I think June is saying that our self-centered idiocy towards and inability to appreciate the radical Otherness of animals is facilitated by the kind reduction of non-human life to mere screens for our narcissistic projections exemplified by movies like Monkey Shines.

Oh, I already love it; it's Jared's reaction that will be incredibly interesting.

Also, fun fact: Paprika will be Jared's first anime ever. Sometimes, the show feels like me showing crazy weird things to my curmudgeonly grandpa who's somehow the same age as me and seeing how he takes it.

I absolutely love Paprika, I'm looking forward to you doing that one. Also I've heard The Postman is astoundingly bad, so that one will be great too.
Do you find it's easier planning all your episodes out ahead of time? I tend to do the tried-and-true "flying by the seat of your pants" approach (i.e. "Oh I totally feel like doing an episode on *this* next!"), although the three "trigger warning trilogies" are sort of themed, even if the first one was a coincidence. But I don't have to coordinate with other people - and my show doesn't have a theme of "everything", whereas from the looks of it you have to maintain a balance of old/new/popular/rare/bad/good. But now you have the experience of going "Oh no, next week we have to do the Postman."

I'm a week behind but how could WHM be so wrong about the Child's Play series? 3 is maybe the worst of them all and bride/seed are by far the most entertaining. I remember liking one and two cause I was young (stupid) and saw 3 in the theater and was just so loving bored throughout.

Is curse good? I stopped paying attention to things so I vaguely remember that was a thing.

Edit: oh yea, direct to video, that's why I ignored it. Read up the wiki plot outline, no thank you sirs.

I agree. They dismissed the series from the jump and are totally wrong about the newer films. Curse of Chucky and Bride of Chucky are awesome, and I've always been a fan of the first.

Excellent pick, Random Stranger! Although I'm now wondering how the hell you first came across this movie.
If they really wanted the movie to work, they should have set it in a country where voting is compulsory, or at least change the law so that it's compulsory. Then all the baby men would actually *have* to vote, as opposed to just sort of sitting there and ignoring the election.
The brief mention of "Red China" did remind me of the Red Guard, which was actually a movement where the youth in China had far more power than they should have. So, in a strange, twisted way, the filmmakers were more on the money than they should have been.

RE episode hint: Oh man, I thought the hint was going to be "Keanu", and I was getting excited about the prospect of them doing my pick.

That's really my chief problem with them. They have good , funny content, but more often then not, it either goes away from the film too much, or it is in the mailbag section, which should be a separate episode, in my opinion.
