I've been going through the WHM backlog and good lord is the Dracula 2000 episode incredible. I couldn't breathe at two separate points.

Serious question: Do you think there is room for another Bad Movies podcast out there? I have wanted to start one for some time not knowing that there even was a world of trash cinema podcasting until about a month ago. What would you like to see in a bad movie podcast or what about the ones that exist do you not like?

I hate We Hate Movies because it sounds like two dumb kids riffing in mom's basement. Its not funny, its not interesting and it doesn't provide me, the listener, with any value. Remember, your podcast is a product and you want other people to consume that product. Don't be lazy and think you can riff on the fly; prepare your material in advance. Also, learn when to drop a bit. If something isn't funny the first time you say it, it isn't going to be funny the fiftieth time. Pull what comedy you can out of an idea and then move on. Finally, and most importantly, don't do impressions. I don't know you, I've never heard your voice, but you don't sound like Yoda, Christopher Walker, Sean Connery, Christophe Waltz, John Wayne, Elvis, Samuel L. Jackson, Truimph the Hand Puppet Dog or whoever you want to do an impression of. Its not funny, its just tiresome.

Well there won't be any impressions, I can promise that. But I do like the conversational format of We Hate Movies and HDTGM or really any podcast. If it's too stuffy or sounds like a 60 Minutes interview I'm not interested so it won't be the product I'm putting out. Yes we will have a "gimmick" of sorts and we won't be touching the sacred cow bad movies like The Room, Birdemic or Manos.

So I guess it's time I post this here, hope that's kosher. I asked you guys for some advice not too long ago on what you're looking for in a bad movie podcast and I hope I didn't let you down too much.

http://netflixmartyrs.blogspot.com/

We only watch films that are easily accessible (90% of the time, movies on Netflix, occasionally something on Youtube or Amazon) and talk about whether you should queue it up or not. When it came to tone we really wanted it to sound like four friends drinking beers and bullshitting after watching a movie. It's a bit rough quality wise in my opinion because we record straight from Skype for now (and forever because we're scattered across the world). I do all the editing and try to balance a pretty intense grad program, which isn't much of an excuse but it's a temporary reason why I'm not having everyone record their own strands. This will happen eventually though. I think over time the podcast will develop more "segments" and find its own identity. Feedback would be appreciated and I'm pretty good at taking criticism. :)

Really enjoyed your Dracula 3000 episode weekly font. I'm not the best at critiquing things but the audio quality wasn't too bad and it was worth suffering through. You've started strong and I can only see it getting better. The film really is undeserving of that box art.

Thanks, I just appreciate the listen, critique or no. :) Right now the schedule is every other week is a full release and in between we do a "Halfisode" which has a little tangent based on the previous episode and maybe an interview if I can find someone with strong enough opinions on the topic. This week is our favorite Vampire movies and some Twilight discussion. I'd love to release every week but D and I are in doctorate programs, Rob is married and Pam has a super awesome job so it's tough.

Finally had to drop "Yeah, It's That Bad." I just couldn't take the creepy Silent Hill-esque audio editing coupled with the non-humor anymore. When one asked the other for a quoted box office take this week, the other got within about ten-thousand or so dollars, and apparently that was enough to launch a two minute uproarious laughing fit, I knew I was done.

Yeah, I want to like "Yeah It's That Bad," but the way the yuck it up over stupid stuff is horrible. Though the grand irony of that podcast is that they seem to have really bad taste in movies.

I honestly don't mind bad movie podcasts that aren't trying to be funny. If they have a laugh, hey cool, but I don't NEED jokes in a show about jokes. Of course the show still has to be entertaining so Y,ITB is right out.

Over at The Netflix Martyrs we covered "Branded" this week, a movie that is so batshit crazy and off the rails that I couldn't even begin to describe it in a coherent thought. So here's some free association: cow sacrifice, Russian reality TV, evil mascots, awkward car sex, Jeffrey Tambor, marketing superheroes, Max von Sydow, the greatest actress of our generation (Leelee Sobieski).

Unlike its contemporaries, the main character is under no uncertain terms the villain, and the most sympathetic character is the ex-wife's new fiance. Jay Mohr, the psycho presented as our hero, spends the movie studying all the wonderful things the fiance does for his ex-wife. Instead of learning about how the fiance pays more attention to her and thus developing as a character, he uses his Groundhog Day powers to learn how best to either sabotage the fiance's plans or steal them for his own. The end result is an entirely innocent man watching the woman he loves get taken away from him over the course of one day by an irredeemable human that did not learn anything from the experience except how to use miracles to cheat.

I'm planning on submitting the movie to the next WHM request month :xd:
