I am trying to achieve something specific but have little experience in time-lapse and video editing. So before I go off and spend the next month fumbling around, I though I would post what I am trying to achieve as well as what I was planning on doing and hope that someone with more knowledge / experience than me could let me know if I am on the right path. The video would be approximately 5 mins long and would be a recording of a table top war game which usually go for 2hrs. There would be a 2 minute bit in the beginning with short interviews with the players. Then a 2-3 minute time-lapse of the match itself. Once the game is done, I want to immediately be able to save the time-lapse video and play it back to the players, who would then commentate. (I would record this commentary and make it the "sound" of the time-lapse part of the final clip. So some examples done by someone else (of the time-lapse bit): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-1-5mDwYO4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4PKPuMJf74 I have done research and played around with making a normal video into a time-lapse, but as the post game review / recording is just as important as the time-lapse itself, I have come up with a solution that I think could work. I want to use my web cam (Logitech webcam Pro 9000) and a Laptop with the Active WebCam software to record the time-lapse. (I have already played around with this and know it works.) I would then record the interviews with the WebCam or my normal camera (Sony Cyber-shot) or my video camera (Sony Handycam 4 mega pixel, HDD) After all the recording I would put the video together in windows Movie maker. I have done all of these steps separately and played around to know that I can do this, but wasn't sure if this was the best way to get my desired result. (also while I was playing around all the things were free, so that helped!) My first question, is this the right way to go about it? or should I be doing something else? To note, I can by software / hardware if necessary but have not as I wasn't sure what I needed to do exactly. My second question, is if there is someone who has experience in this who would like some free lance work (in Brisbane, Australia) I would be willing to pay. I am happy enough to do this myself, but also know that supporting people who do great work is important! Looking forward to any feedback, if you are interested in the second bit and dont want to post, send me a PM.

If you have the timelapse part down, basically it's just the voiceover and stuff? The folks over in Let's Play might be more useful for this, they do that sorta poo poo all the time. And yes you are going in the right direction of this. Just do a few 5 minute test runs to make sure the time lapse works how you want (and work out how many frames you'll be shooting in total, so you can make sure your memory card's big enough).

Specifically this thread might be good. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...hreadid=3486018 This is basically exactly what LPers do when they record post-commentary.

Thanks for the link soundmonkey, SoundMonkey posted:If you have the timelapse part down, basically it's just the voiceover and stuff? However I dont know if this is the best for what I am trying to achieve and would love any other ideas.

Gojky posted:Thanks for the link soundmonkey, If you have a camera that can take a remote, they make intervalometers that automatically hit the shutter every X seconds. If you have a Canon P+S you could also load CHDK and it has an intervalometer built in too.

Ok, one of my friends linked me the Brinno timelapse camera. http://www.brinno.com/html/TLC200.html I had never heard of it, though it seemed to cover exactly what i needed to do so after looking around for an Australian distributor I found one in Jaycar! http://www.jaycar.com.au/productVie...no&form=KEYWORD I have now played around with it, recorded 2 time-lapse video's... really easy and just what I was looking for. The quality is not perfect but it is still pretty good. I am definitely not unhappy with it at all. Thanks for everyone's replies. Crowd sourcing for the win! Dangit, I could actually have done this; at least, if I had a time lapse remote I could.

Hi all, I have uploaded the videos of the first ForceZ tournament I went to last Sunday. I think the videos came out pretty good, let me know what you think and things I could improve. http://www.youtube.com/user/Tabletoptourneys/featured One thing I will be doing differently for the next tourney (The Gauntlet) is making the time-lapse interval 1 second rather than 2. This will make the time-lapse video a little longer, but allow a bit more conversation to take place. I might also post this in the games forum as they might be more interested in this from a gaming perspective rather than from a camera one. Any feedback would be appreciated. Just got done watching some of these - and I have to say they are really enjoyable to watch. Only thing I would recommend is having notes as you narrate it. Would cut down on the number of "Uhms" and "ahhs" but I really do appreciate how very clear the battle reports describe what occurred. I'll be watching them going forward. I'll also promote them on my site. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST) Ghost Hand fucked around with this message at Feb 19, 2013 around 15:03 |
