Try not to break any tables if you choose the former. Residence of Agent Dirk Crimson Truth and Consequences, New Mexico 36 Hours Ago The message notification on Dirk's cell phone was the first indicator that something had gone horribly wrong somewhere. At first glance, the message appeared to be nothing more than a garbled string of letters. After consulting his one-time pad, though, Dirk knew that it was in fact a new deployment order: MOVE THIRTY SIX ROOK TO ROOK SIX. The underlying code had been called by several SHIELD operatives old-fashioned at best, stereotypical to the point of conspicuousness at worst. Still, it served its purpose, and nobody had ever convinced Fury or the Council to change it. Rook indicated the priority level -- pretty drat important, but not "alien invasion" important. Rook six indicated the Helicarrier, assuming he hadn't miscalculated the time zone conversion. And the move number meant that he had 36 hours to get there. Agent Dirk Crimson sighed as he picked the phone back up. At least S.H.I.E.L.D. gave him more warning than he had with that thing in Burma. S.H.I.E.L.D. Secure Holding Facility 4 Location Classified 28 Hours Ago "It's time." Glenn Hunter raised his head from the book he was reading, and turned it towards the sound of the voice. A blonde woman in a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform -- not a woman he recognized, either -- stood just outside his cell door, a folder in one hand and a duffel bag in the other. She nudged the door open and tossed the bag towards Glenn. "I'm Agent Carol Danvers," the woman said. "And you have a job to do. Get that on and follow me outside. There's a transport waiting to bring us to the Helicarrier. Stay close and don't cause trouble." The bag was not completely closed, Glenn noticed. And the toss had caused a sleeve to poke out from the opening. A sleeve with the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem on it. S.H.I.E.L.D. Project Muninn Approximately 200 kilometers east of Boise, Idaho 21 Hours Ago Agent Carlos Nikolao frowned to himself as he read over the decrypted message once again. AGENT NIKOLAO IS TO BE RELIEVED FROM ALL PROJECT WORK AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HELICARRIER IMMEDIATELY FURTHER ORDERS TO BE PROVIDED UPON ARRIVAL ALL DIRECTIVES TO THE CONTRARY ARE COUNTERMANDED BY ORDER OF DIRECTOR NICK FURY As a general rule, Carlos knew, orders that directly invoked Fury generally weren't high up on the list of "orders that were good for one's life expectancy". Still, it was as good a time as such orders could ever be. Project Muninn had been running headlong into the limits of what he and the harness could do for a couple of weeks now. If nothing else, the researchers would have more time to process the data he had given them. Carlos looked up. "Alright. Lead the way." S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier - Briefing Room Three Approximately 60 kilometers south-southeast of Bandar Penggaram, Malaysia "We have a situation in Madripoor," were the first words the agent spoke as he entered the room that you had been brought to. A buzzcut of black hair framed a clean-shaven, lightly tanned face with an emotionless expression that would not have seemed out of place on a Secret Service agent. His eyes were hidden behind mirrored black sunglasses, as though to complete the look. As though on cue, a holographic map of the island nation flickered into existence above the table as the agent mentioned Madripoor. "Reports have reached us about an advanced technological threat that has recently been apprehended by the Principality's government. However, given the status of Madripoor's foreign relations, we have no official means by which we can request information on this threat, abd the government has been close-lipped via unofficial channels as well. All we have are these photos." The map vanishes, replaced by three images. One shows a lance of some sort of coruscating blue energy flying from somewhere offscreen to strike an airplane. The second shows a damaged armored battlesuit, similar in appearance to the infamous North Korean attempt to reproduce the Iron Man armor. The final photo is of a crater filled with urban wreckage, surrounded by buildings but lit only by embers scattered through the depression. The agent waits a few moments before continuing. "We believe that battlesuit to be responsible for the destruction shown. The helicarrier will be arriving at Signapore within the hour. From there, you are to proceed to Madripoor via civilian transportation. Your primary objective is to locate and recover the battlesuit shown in the photograph. In the event that recovery proves impossible, your secondary obective will be to locate and recover any research that Madripoor has performed regarding the battlesuit." He grins slightly. "As cliche as it no doubt sounds, S.H.I.E.L.D. will disavow all knowledge of your actions should you be captured or killed. Are there any questions?"

Dirk Crimson - Briefing Room 3 "Infiltration and exfiltration?" Dirk asks casually, a thin black cigarette lazily resting between two fingers. Although his mannerisms depict a lazy outlook, legs crossed easily and slouched in his chair, his eyes dart over the figures of the other three agents. He was more used to working alone than in a team but one member, a rather striking looking woman, might just prove a pleasure to work with. A real cool guy posted:Backstory:

Glenn Hunter ----- Holding Cell "Oh now this is something." Glenn said with a smirk in his voice as he picked up the bag and noticed the sleeve. Why didn't they just paint a target on him and be done with it. Really? What kind of secret government agency sent out field agents with their marking on it, it was like something from a low budget action flick. He decided to flaunt a small modicum of insolence by spending about a minute checking the contents of the bag thoroughly before changing. Then just before the agent might start getting annoyed enough to throw threats around he put on the clothing he'd been given. Glenn had been given a good incentive to willingly co-operate and he intended to follow through on his end for as long as Fury's goons followed through on theirs, but this didn't mean he couldn't tweak their noses from time to time just to remind them that he wasn't a mindless dog who obediently jumped when told. "So Carol," He deliberately used her first name as well. "Tell me what we're going to do and why I'm wearing such an obvious outfit. I thought I was supposed to be some kind of super-spy or assassin." Now Glenn was getting down to business. There was still a hint of his flippant and rebellious nature in the question, but it was clearly a serious question. He vaguely wondered if the Agent would use the chance to get a shot of her own back at him. He'd have to give her a little credit if she did, a thought that made him smile a little in his mind. ----- Briefing Room 3 "The suit looks like Stark-tech or something derived. That stuff seems to get around." Glenn comments with a slight smirk as he looks at the images, lapsing a bit more fully into the broad Australian accent. "Do you know anything about the power source? Can any of your guys pick it up, say how you can measure radioactivity and figure out where nuclear materials are, or are you completely in the dark?" He asked thinking about how he'd get in to the country. Glenn had relied mostly on other people for connections and had never built his own. He had a reputation though, so he could potentially prove his stuff and earn some leverage with crime groups in Madripoor but that probably wouldn't fly with SHIELD. Well, maybe he'd see what the others would come up with. If push came to shove he could just stowaway on a flight or boat. He'd done it before and could do it again on a civilian transport without an issue. Let me know if there's anything else in the duffel bag. Also does Glenn have his vest and jacket at the moment? I'm not expecting it but it's a little narrative detail if I do. PS. Sheet is linked in Glenn's name at the top, I'll keep it there each post for easy reference. Some jerkbag posted:Glenn Hunter

HiKaizer posted:Let me know if there's anything else in the duffel bag. Also does Glenn have his vest and jacket at the moment? I'm not expecting it but it's a little narrative detail if I do. There was something else, yes. It wasn't your familiar bulletproof vest, though, but a change of clothes that lacked any S.H.I.E.L.D. markings. Presumably it was meant for usage during actual covert operations. You spent the points on the vest and knife, so I'll make sure you'll have them by the time they're needed. S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier - Briefing Room Three "Essentially, yes, Agent Crimson," the briefing agent says. "As far as the suit goes, it's not Stark tech. We've seen how tight a grip he tries to keep on it, and we've been assured that the War Machine suit is fully accounted for and closely monitored by USAF. Doesn't fit Vanko's work either, too rough. We haven't ruled out leftovers from Stane, but if that's the cause it certainly took its sweet time before surfacing." He pauses and lets out a breath before continuing. "As far as the power source, satellites aren't showing any abnormal levels of radiation. We have our suspicions, but all that we can be certain of at this time is that it wasn't nuclear or an arc reactor."

Caros Nikolao A white researchers coat hangs on the chair the dusky skinned and dark haired Latino looking man sits at. He looks fitter then the usual SHIELD researcher would look like, and being clad in the same sort of agent uniform as you others, he definitely isn't just a researcher, despite some of his appearances. A pair of reading glasses rests on the file given after he seemingly skimmed it. He speaks up with almost impeccable English, but has an odd tinge of some regional accent some might recognise as Hawaiian. "Despite what Mr Stark thinks of himself, his armour far from copyable. Already two different parties managed to do so. And while the Korean video were rather gruesome, we should not assume that someone else might not have worked out the kinks. There is nothing unique about the Stark armour, he got probably a dozen lying around at home." pre:Real Name: Dr Carlos Lokela Nikolao

S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier - Briefing Room Three "According to the reports I've read," the agent says in response to Carlos, "the primary limiting factor with Stark's armor is the need for a highly efficient and exceptionally compact power generation system; in the case of the Iron Man and War Machine armors, a miniaturized arc reactor. As I explained previously, no sign of such a device is present in the photographs. S.H.I.E.L.D. only knows of one alternate power source that would be capable of the necessary levels of output on that small a scale. As this source is no longer available to us, we can reasonably assume that this is not Stark technology." He turns his head to Dirk. "As far as transportation is concerned, we would prefer that you devise your own method so as to minimize any political fallout. Should it prove necessary, however, we are close enough to Madripoor that Quinjets can be deployed to aid in recovery and exfiltration."

Carol Danvers Holding Cell Carol walked beside Glenn after handing him the bag. She walked with him through to the Briefing room and didn't pay much mind to the apparent ex-criminal. "You'll be wearing the uniform of S.H.I.E.L.D. because the director wants you to begin to look like an agent just on the off chance that it begins to make you behave like one. You're not supposed to be anything at the moment," she says, never establishing eye contact. It's like she's lecturing a naughty child. She stands outside the Briefing Room and lets him through the hatch first. She's not showing her back to this former criminal. She still has a rather distinct objection to letting someone with his history become involved with operations of such a sensitive nature. Briefing Room Three The first question that came to mind after the briefing was how did someone in Madripoor get their hands on equipment like that? She recognized the design as similar to something that'd been developed by the North Koreans in an attempt to get on the world stage after their satellite launches all hit failure to launch issues but energy weapons? Exosuits? She looked down at the tablet in her hands and started to stroke her way through the different briefing pages, glaring a little as she went through it. "What's the status of the government in Madripoor?" she asked, looking up noticing the briefing docket was bereft of data on that subject. "I take it they're not that hot on what they see as American imperial forces operating in their borders? How's their control in cities these days?" she asked, remembering the 'politically difficult' environment of the 80s for south east Asia. pre:Carol Danvers PL8 Abilities - 52 Strength 3, Stamina 3, Agility 4, Dexterity 4, Fighting 3, Intellect 3, Awareness 3, Presence 3 Powers Skills - 33 rank total cost Acrobatics (AGI) 4 (+8) 2 Athletics (STR) 4 (+7) 2 Close Combat (FGT) 2 (+5) 1 - Unarmed Deception (PRE) 6 (+9) 3 Expertise (INT) 4 (+7) 2 - Military Insight (AWE) 4 (+7) 2 Intimidation (PRE) 6 (+9) 3 Investigation (INT) 6 (+9) 3 Perception (AWE) 4 (+7) 2 Ranged Comabt (DEX) 4 (+8) 2 Persuasion (PRE) 8 (+11) 4 Treatment (INT) 4 (+7) 2 Vehicles (DEX) 10 (+14) 5 - Fighter Jet Advantages - 22 Accurate Attack 1 - Trade in damage for hit. Glenn Hunter "I've heard there's only one place going to Madripoor. I don't think it has any other cities, kind of like Singapore you know? Supposedly good for my sort of folk but I've never been there myself. It'll be nice to do a bit of sightseeing, place is supposed to be good if you're rich or famous." Glenn says with a lazy casualness to rub all the stick-in-the-mud agents and Americans around him the wrong way. He looks at the agent with the glasses on. "You look like you're in charge mate, I don't suppose we're going to get any cards without limits or nice Swiss Bank accounts that we're super spies right?" The Australian asks with a smirk, sure that the answer would be 'no' and for him specifically 'definitely no'. Then he turned to Carol and grinned again before saying; "Say we could pretend to be a couple, on our honeymoon to visit proud and exotic Madripoor, crime and trade capital of the Orient. Since we're going to need to act like we're not agents for a bit I thought you might need a bit of help." The ball was in Carol's court now, Glenn waited to see if her response would be up to par or not.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier - Briefing Room Three "The government of Madripoor is not actively hostile or belligerent, but suffice to say they're on better terms with Russia and China than they are with any Western powers." The agent reaches to push his mirrored sunglasses back up before continuing. "They have solid control over the Hightown area, but Lowtown has a significant Triad presence. We do not believe they are directly responsible for this incident, but they may attempt to capitalize on it. As far as financial support is concerned, there are accounts that can be drawn upon, but you will be required to justify any significant or abnormal expenses upon your return."

Carol Danvers Carol knew that there was one major city in Madripoor but there were other places there. She knew that there were jungles, dense and mostly uncharted. Tiny pockets of land where government resistance had been particularly stubborn in the past. She didn't even look at Glenn as she asked calmly and collectedly spoke. "I'm going to assume that we're being given a little bit of leeway on how we play this by way of a test? Group cohesion?" Glenn could probably keep needling Carol for a while before she actually reacted. "Another concern of mine is- where do we need to get the suit to? Are we going to extract it to a local military base or... where's our goalpost here?" Sion fucked around with this message at Jan 15, 2013 around 01:01 |

Carlos Nikolao Carlos fiddles with his glasses briefly... He scratches his chin briefly, and you notice a quick dim blue-white glow underneath his brown sweater west he wears over the agent uniform. Its dim, and in a set pattern over his chest, and if the chair and the research coat draped over its back weren't in the way, you would see it ran up and all over his spine, all up to the neck. The faint glow only lasts only some scant seconds before vanishing. Carlos puts the glasses back on-top of the file dossier he have. "I would suspect it might not win any popularity contests in the region, or with China either on account of its... Pirates. Its a den of them since ancient times and still are. Though they are a major economic centre in the entire region, so there is a-lot of money despite... Or thanks to those pirates, I didn't major in economics so I am not at liberty to say." He coughs and straightens himself a little, looking apologetically towards the debriefer before turning his eyes back to the dossier on the table, fiddling with it a little as well. "So the government in charge, an Ms Ophelia Sarkissian, also known as "Princess Viper", aren't belligerent, she is quite the deft politician from what I heard even... But there is likely little love between anyone and Madripoor despite her efforts." He closes the dossier again and looks up and around at the others, smiling slightly. "But I am no expert in the region, just the stuff you know from reading the funny papers." Hutter fucked around with this message at Jan 15, 2013 around 04:11 |

Dirk Crimson "If that's what you've managed to pull just from reading some funnies I'd hate to see what you do with some real documentation. And... Glenn right? Glenn. Do me a favor and turn down the 'I haven't been laid in years and it's showing' dial to about 4 huh? It's mildly irritating and I'm in a good mood." The small syringe of morphine in the head, what the sailors called a bathroom, certainly helped with that too. Otherwise he'd probably be all nerves right now.

Should this fail to prove feasable, we have alternative solutions at our disposal."

Glenn Hunter "No need to be jealous mate, I'd be sweet-talking you too if you'd come to collect me." Glenn says with a wicked grin in response to Dirk's comment and then chuckled to himself. So Dirk thought he was trying to get into Carol's pants did her, well that wouldn't be a bad bonus but that wasn't his real goal. He'd get a proper response out of the agent eventually, she'd scored a point at the first meeting but her lack of a comeback to his recent quip disappointed him. Maybe she was just a robot like all the other SHIELD agents he'd met. Fury had at least been keen, the man was smart and could read people like books, Glenn had to give him that much. But the rest of the group seemed mostly like drones in an insect hive where the queen was patriotic duty to the great American nation. They said they wanted world security, but really all they cared about was their own turf. Well Glenn had an interest to succeed beyond that, so he'd do his best for now. "Alright, so unless any of you have some connections you can call in I suggest we organise some fake identities and book a flight to the Jewel of the South East." He said to the three other agents that seemed to be coming with him.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier - Briefing Room Three "Your offer of support is appreciated, but unecessary," the agent says. "The necessary documents have already been prepared. The papers should be waiting with your equipment at the quartermaster right now."

Dirk Crimson "Alright let's see if I've got this straight. Infiltrate Madripoor posing as European tech agents, real estate scouts I suppose, then spend our time trying to locate the armored suit seen in that video and if that isn't possible then at least steal the research state, also I'm going to presume we delete or destroy whatever we don't steal, then either leg it with the data or the suit as fast as possible. Alright, one last question then. Rules of engagement? You know I prefer to keep as low body count as possible."

Glenn Hunter Glenn made a snort at the comment of him being a tech agent. "Struth mate, I'm probably the least convincing tech agent you'll ever see. What kind of agency are we talking about then? So I can attempt to not blow our cover the first moment I open my gab?" He asks with a mostly serious tone, while trying not to laugh or smile at the though. Glenn Hunter "Fine by me, I prefer to remain in the shadows when I can." Glenn says with mostly a straight face. He was a tall and big kind of person and thus fairly noticeable. He didn't know if the others had been told about his powers yet, he hadn't been told about blue spine going on with the man who wasn't a robotic agent or the guy that wisecracked like a superspy or comicbook hero; so he assumed that there was a decent chance not all of them had been told about him either. Glenn had a feeling that Carol was probably aware of his powers though. This is mostly a kind of in-joke for Glenn and not glaringly obvious. If people were briefed on him they'd get it, otherwise they might just assume he's continuing to be a wiseass or just making a joke because he's not an unnoticeable sort of person.

"Well if we have twenty two minutes then we should really get to reading more about this plan," says Carol, keeping the docket under her arm. "I would like to know if anyone has any specific ideas to table here. European tech company with a multinational bent to it should be an easy enough sell. I take it everyone here can bluff their way through a conversation about laptops or cellphones, right?" She looks to Hunter, almost like she expects him to be the weak link in the chain.

Glenn Hunter "I think I'll stick to looking big and scary, it's what I do best when I have to be noticed." Glenn says with a shrug which was a fairly resounding 'no' to Carol's question. Honestly did he look like a nerd? He couldn't even tell you the difference between Windows or Macs, only that people who did care always seemed to be really pretentious. Considering that everything he was currently allowed to have was in his bag he hefted it with one easy motion onto his shoulder and looked over at Carlos, although they had yet to be introduced. He wanted to ask him if he knew about any research that might have caused Glenn's particular 'talents' to emerge, so would follow after him if he went to grab his stuff and wait for a moment when the others split off. If they didn't then Glenn would probably just ask on the way, hiding it for a bit would be amusing to him but if Carol didn't know she and the others would find out about his powers soon enough anyway.

Dirk Crimson Dirk stands up and leaves the files on the table where they lay. He's already committed much of them to memory and hanging on to them will only make him feel like a paper pusher. "Eurotech companies are different than American tech companies, Agent Danvers, in how they go about acquiring assets. For one thing they are a great deal more patient as well as a great deal more ruthless. I think we are all well-versed enough with various aspects of technology that we can each play into his or her specialty."

S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier - Quartermaster's Office You come up on the quartermaster's office just as Dirk finishes talking. It's a small room, with a windowed counter next to a door that appears to lead into a larger storage area. Behind the counter is a wiry-looking olive-skinned man with unkempt brown hair just starting to turn grey. He looks up from his computer as you enter and nods. "Ah, you must be the team that's going to Madripoor," he says with a vaguely Grecian accent before reaching under the counter to retrieve a thick manilla folder. "Spanish passports," he says. "They're fake, but they're good enough to make it through Madripoor customs. If you'll give a moment, I'll retrieve your equipment."

Dirk Crimson Dirk thanks the man in fluent Castillian Spanish and waits for him to retrieve his gear. As soon as Ironheade, Dirk's custom built pistol, is placed on the counter the agent is already field stripping it and making sure everything is still in place.

Carlos Nikolao His passport slides itself out of the folder and into Carlos hand. He flips it open to have a look. "I hope we don't run into any real Spaniards. My Spanish has likely a certain tang of not being from the Iberian peninsula... You however speak excellent Spanish, Crimson. Anyone else here that does?"

S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier - Quartermaster's Office In addition to the passports, the folder also contains several copies of a sheet of paper with information on the cover identity you've been assigned. According to the document, you're posing as representatives of Logopolis Solutions. Officially, the document explains, Logopolis Solutions is based out of the United Kingdom; however, due to what are described only as "various loopholes in taxation structures", the actual day-to-day operations are run from their offices in Seville. "Ah, here we go," the quartermaster says as he returns with a duffel bag and a small case of black-painted metal. He sets them down on the counter and slides the bag through before unlocking the case. Inside the bag are a bulletproof vest and combat knife, both of which are quite familiar to Glenn. The case passes across the counter as the vest and knife are removed from the bag, lid cracked open to show a foam rubber lining. "Communications and surveillance gear." Those of you other than Glenn who bought equipment during character creation can be assumed to already have it.

Glenn Hunter Glenn had a look at his combat knife and nodded, well if they were giving him this it was clearly a sign they believed he wasn't going to make a break for it. Or, it meant they were confident that they could stop him should he try to. Well they had succeeded once already so they probably had some reason for confidence. "Back before my accident I was studying geo-science. Never got far enough to make much of it though, besides, I doubt it'll help us much even if I did." Glenn says with a wry smile and takes his gear. He decided not to equip them for now, when they got closer he would put on the jacket. There wasn't any point spooking anyone yet.

Carol Danvers Carol looked down at the passport. She was Carolina Daniels. Next she's picked up her docket and is thumbing through it; Carolina had an interesting life, it seemed. Born in Virginia, went through high school, went through college and got a degree in office management. She joined Logopolis Solutions in an American office as an intern before being promoted to- She's a personal assistant? She's their secretary? She's here to function as a chaparone for the scientists to make sure they don't get too distracted or to make sure that meetings go ahead at the right time. Sure, it sounds like it'd be important work but it wasn't really Carol Danvers. Carolina Daniels though-- She'll need to have words with the briefing agent. Dirk Crimson Dirk heads towards the hanger bay with his gear. He double checks that he had a small bullet-proof black metal case in his inside pocket. Of all his possessions, that may be the most important one. Six 1/2cc syringes of morphine. Heading out and stuff

Carlos Side from papers, communicators and a normal travellers suitcase, they don't seem to issue Carlos anything. He follows Crimson along, reading the files on his new identity. "Alfredo Martinez. Age 34, leading egghead advisor. Fitting I suppose. Three marriages, two kids, single." He scans the dossier very quickly, and holds out to the others. "A wise course of action is to give each other's identities at-least a quick look. I wouldn't know if that's standard procedure or so, this is my first real field mission. You and Carol is far more experienced agents then me..."

Carol Danvers Well, Carol is experienced in knowing how to fly an F-16 over a strike zone without getting shot down by triple-A but this espionage stuff is still a little new to her too. She takes a look at Carlos' paperwork before smiling. "Hi," she says, holding out a hand as if meeting him for the first time. "I'm Carolina Daniels, PA and Secretary at Logopolis Solutions LLC and I'll be here to help make sure your visit to Madripoor goes as smoothly as it's possible for it to go." There's a bit of a bluff but she rattles all of it off quickly. She glances over at Glenn and Dirk. "What about you guys? I don't think we've ever met..."
