![]() Thats us, thats CA. The famed biek wiki has been closed and lost to the sands of internet time so many, many times now. Maybe this time will be different. Maybe not, if not, dredge this thread up in a year to tell me how terrible I am at running a wiki. So we have a wiki again! Its here: http://2strokeworld.com/bikewiki/ Registration is back open, pending your ability to solve the cat-based captcha!![]() The wiki is open for business. Its also open for registration. Anyone can register and edit right now (I may make it approval-only down the road). Want to help out, but dont have any ideas for topics?![]() All red links are listed here: http://2strokeworld.com/bikewiki/in...al:ListRedLinks Red links are links that people put in their articles because they thought the article should exist, but doesnt. Red links are basically a to-do list generated by the wiki itself. Things we need to do: Write write write!!! I'm going to leave this pretty open-ended so it can become what CA wants it to become rather than what I want it to become. Lets plan, figure things out, and create in this thread. Go forth and wikify Jim Silly-Balls fucked around with this message at Jan 30, 2013 around 19:34 |

I drunkenly made this one night as a joke for that Krazie K thread where people started getting all neurotic about ATGATT and Harleys. It seemed appropriate to CA, you're welcome to use it as a logo. I could add text or whatever.

As funny as comedy articles are, don't forget to put some actual information in as well. Articles like bike suggestsions for newbies, track days, trail riding, etc. Could include what to look out for when buying specific models and such Basic oil/chain/tire maintainence. How to buy a used bike Nice routes to ride in various areas. Just some suggestions. What info would YOU like to have easy access to? e: Pro link while the wiki is fairly small: http://2strokeworld.com/bikewiki/in...pecial:AllPages

Lots of folks are generally confused about how to effectively navigate wikis. The SH/SC wiki back in the day learned this and structured the home page very simply: http://web.archive.org/web/20090105...tp://shsc.info/ Featured | Page Index | Recent Changes All most people are going to want to see if they're opening browsing.

I made a bunch of stubs for Manufacturer pages on the Motorcycles page. Then elaborated the Yamaha one with their 70's jingle and a from memory model list. Then did a big ol Gen-1 V-Max page. I then discovered I have no idea how to do cite/references or do anything but the most basic page layouts in wiki's

http://2strokeworld.com/bikewiki/in...title=Supermoto Hey also remember when you are writing articles to enclose words that should be their own article in double braces [[like this]]. That way they will become a red link and someone can click on it to fill in the article.

I did the squid article. I'm thinking of making a page for women with links to ladies' gear and blogs and such. Would that be a good idea?

I think definitely, yes. There was a thread here for women riders but I don't think anyone posts in it any more -- maybe it'll pick up in the spring, though. Either way it seems like something that would be valuable. I'm going to keep writing aaaaall about the Honda 350s. It's gonna be the biggest and bestest page on the whole wiki!

ThatCguy posted:No reference to why it's actually called a "squid"? Yeah actual cephalopods corner like motherfuckers, not sure where you got this one from. Also I'm outraged that I'll have to register to make a page for Aprilia saying "Like a Ducati, but works". Might be an idea to start off with FAQs - how to get a license, good starter bikes, basic maintenance, that sort of thing, and have those linked off the front page. Maybe a section on CA-specific memes? Or would that be making life too easy?

So I'm still working on my CB350 page. What do you think of this as a general format for bike-specific pages? Brief description of the bike, a recommended skill level/type of rider (eg: bros, douchebags, Kenny Roberts), some specifications, and then a section for general tips and info about that model that would be useful for anyone who owns one. For instance, I spent a hell of a lot of time trying to find what kind of tires are available for the 350's weird wheel sizes that are also not cheap poo poo, and there are only about three models that meet all the requirements. So I stuck that info up there for anyone else trying to find shoes for a 350. Finally, an image gallery the bike and people doing cool poo poo with it. Obviously we can't do this for every bike out there, but if we got a selection of CA's stable and the most frequently asked-about models (SVs, Ninja 250s, DRZs, a couple of the more popular cruisers), I think it'd be pretty helpful. http://2strokeworld.com/bikewiki/in...tle=Honda_CB350

Edited the New Riders page with a bunch more info. I would appreciate anyone else going in and adding their own input, since I'm sure I can't cover everything. I left some bracketed notes as suggestions. http://2strokeworld.com/bikewiki/in...itle=New_Riders Also created The Wave, can't believe this has been up almost two days without that page existing. Shameful. http://2strokeworld.com/bikewiki/in...?title=The_Wave Jim Silly-Balls: every so often when I click a link now I download a file called index.gz. Oh, good thing to note: Don't link images to imgur or something like that. Upload them to the wiki instead ("Upload File" link in the left sidebar). Externally hosted images tend to go away eventually and then we're left with a bunch of dead links.

I just expended way too much effort on the Aprilia page. I think we need an actual list of pages we need written and a rough idea of how they're going to fit together. Just off the top of my head: Basic repairs/maintenance/technical knowledge: - Basic troubleshooting/checklist - Battery testing, charging system testing, trickle chargers, etc - "Bad fuel" - Tyre sizes, compounds, repairs - Adjusting brake and clutch cables, bleeding brakes, adjusting chains - oil changes Riding techniques: - Clutchless shifting - Riding in the wet - Proper lines (probably need some pictures too) - Bad behaviour and how to do it right (wheelies, stoppies, knee-down, etc) Gear: - Choosing helmets and other gear - ATGATT These are all things that have come up just more than once in the last few months of the threads I read so seem like a natural start. As I'm snowed in tomorrow I might make a start on a few of them and maybe on the front page... -
