So I've recently decided that within one year from now I want to travel to both Peru to visit Machu Picchu and then Ecuador to visit the Galapagos Islands, probably with my sister. Roughly speaking, I want to start in Cusco (so probably Lima - go straight to Cusco), then after seeing Machu Picchu, travel up to Lima and spend some time. From there I want to go to Trujillo because my sister has an adopted family there from when she spent some time in a college program abroad. From there I figured we'd cross the border into Ecuador and head to whatever city will take us to the Galapagos and spend 5-6 days in the Galapagos. Total trip time I think will be 14-15 days, with 5-6 of that in the islands and the rest somewhere between Cusco and Trujillo. I've traveled around the world, but not like this. So I have a number of questions: - What is the best way to go about seeing Peru and the Galapagos? - How does crossing the border of Peru/Ecuador work? - Are there any safety concerns I should be aware of? - What else do I need to know? I am not averse to staying in hostels or riding on local transportation. My sister speaks Spanish and we both have passports. I have been to a number of foreign countries, but never any South American ones. Is there anything else you need for me to help you help me?
