Right now? You got Helio, and TK as consistent contenders, not to mention a wide variety of drivers from other S. American countries. Could they do better? Yeah, no doubt. But they NEED that event. But I'm in agreement. NASCAR has a stranglehold of every market within the US with the exception of Indianapolis. They don't have much outside of the borders though.

I don't like the fly away races and I think it makes the series spread themselves too thin. 2-3 flyaways (including Surfers and a Brazil race) on a 22 race schedule are fine, but even 4-5 non NAFTA races are a bad bad idea in my opinion. People in the US dont watch the tape delay races, and the sponsors may not even do business in that country killing the B2B aspect. So the two things a sponsor actually cares about.

So unless the promoter will pay the difference for the teams (like Honda did in Japan), it's a money loser for them all... well and an incredible pain in the rear end.

Sao Paulo isn't so insanely out of the television range so you could probably do that in Jan/Feb, not having to worry all that much about it. You could do Rockingham in September and Surfers in October, spacing them out enough so that the teams get a chance to rest/get things in order. As for the NAFTA races? Hell, I'd go for 4 in Canada, and 1 in Mexico. Bernie for some reason keeps not giving a Grand Prix to Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, and judging by the amount of Mexican race fans at Austin that's a HUGE untapped market. Perfect race to have in Jan/Feb. FuzzySkinner fucked around with this message at Feb 11, 2013 around 23:42 |

Races in Canada and Mexico and even Brazil are great specifically because of the time zones. Europe is a bad idea for IndyCar. It's never ever ever ever ever ever going to do anything in the European market, ever. Waste of time and money.

I'm still convinced that had PT been given the win in 02 that "The Split" would have ended a lot sooner. PT was ChampCar's poster boy for continuing the fight against the IRL. Remember, he was the one that coined the term "Crapwagon". You remove the 02 controversy and I think he sticks with Andretti-Green, because why would you leave a team that allowed you to a chance to win the biggest race in the world? Forsythe, Newman-Haas have less reason to believe the IRL is all that evil, and after the 03 season make the switch over to the IRL, giving us a unified series 4 years earlier. So yeah, blame Barnhardt for that. FuzzySkinner fucked around with this message at Feb 12, 2013 around 07:09 |

Yeah, the Barnhart thing is completely false and just the same rumor spreading morons that are always around. The IMS board may be full of retards but they aren't THAT retarded. If anything, like Cavin/Fryer have pointed out, Barnhart could move into an advisory position to the new CEO... which would take him out of Ops completely, which would make some of the team owners and fans happy.

Saavedra to run Dragon's second car... with TrueCar sponsorship on both cars. Looks like Jay may have poached her sponsor out from under her. That gives us 23 full time confirmed, looking for Coyne to bump that number up 1 or 2 more. Wonder if Kat ends up back at Coyne.

You'd like to think so but let's face it, pulling dick moves is what team owners/managers do best really. Real shame for Legge. Admitingly I never rated her quite as highly as a lot of people seem to do (though she's certainly not bad) but you can't help feel for her especially after all the long, hard work she seemed to go through to actually find a sponsor. It was a multi-year deal she had with them too wasn't it? Does Saavedra bring with him some Colombian cash to go on top of the TrueCar sponsorship? Could be a case of Jay having his cake and eating it too I guess.
