Jesus Christ, are Thin Men bugged? I haven't seen them miss a shot ONCE. Every shot they take connects. Every single one.

Yesterday a Thin Man shot against one of my soldiers who was in half cover... but BEHIND A WALL. There was no line of sight between him and a Thin Men, none whatsoever. Well, like THAT's gonna stop the motherfucker: he shot at my soldier ANYWAY. His plasma fire destroyed the wall and killed my soldier! What the hell is going on?!

I never actually finished the base game campaign. Does Enemy Within change the entire end-game or does it just add its own thing? Basically, is there any reason to play the original Enemy Unknown without the Enemy Within or Slingshot DLC?

Maybe if you think the overall theme of the expansion is bullshit or if you're looking for a simpler game.

But EW does not change the end-game and storywise it just adds a few elements but isn't disruptive of the main narrative at all. It's mostly gameplay enhancements (new missions, Exalt, Meld etc) and tweaks to make the game more balanced (longer research times, soldiers level up more slowly etc).

I really loathe the Slingshot DLC though, so I'd say keep the hats and disable the missions. But it's a personal preference. But really, I hate Zhang so much I wish he was a real person so I could actually murder him.

XCOM is a game I really love, right? I loved the original game to death and I really like this remake. To make this really short because I've explained my hatred here before, Zhang is an insult to the philosophy of XCOM. He is, in a way, the AntiXCOM.

In a game where we find a special kind of beauty in building narratives for our cherished soldiers, Zhang comes and insults all your troopers by being better than them, but with a predefined narrative. Remember that Heavy that saved your soldiers with his rockets numerous times and that more than once performed acts of heroism in the field to save his partners? Yeah, gently caress him, Zhang has better stats than him.

In a game where the aliens are a serious and terrible threat and XCOM is Earth's last hope, Zhang shoots a Sectoid in the head like he's putting a sick dog out of his misery and throws the gun away like it's nothing. In one single move he spits in the face of all parties involved: XCOM and aliens alike.

gently caress Zhang.

Dear enlightened members of the XCOM thread,

I've been playing XCOM:EW on Classic Ironman for a while now, but unfortunately I have reached the point where the game is just far too easy. So, naturally, I made the jump to Impossible difficulty.

And man is that poo poo brutal. Lost 1 man in the first mission, second mission was an UFO. Lost another one. I now have a Sniper, an Assault and a Support. NO Heavies yet and I have a terrible feeling about this.

What are your recommendations for a newbie trying Impossible for the first time? Good news is that the game is tense again! Bad news is that I am probably exhaling too hard when a Sectoid misses a shot against one of my soldiers hunking down at full cover.

You could always try the Implassic Mod. It has the same amount of enemies as Impossible with the difficulty modifiers of Classic.

Besides being a bit more forgiving, it's also arguably more fun than jumping straight into Impossible.

I am KINDA feeling excited about having my anus completely destroyed by the game again, though.

Impossible for me, I'm already running with no Second Wave options ticked...

-Don't sat rush, do 1 in the first month and push an uplink and 3 more during the second, just pay close attention to which countries you can afford to lose. Plan to get a mech at the start of the second month then ignore meld for the most part (you just need 1 canister for that), and go for lasers.

Solid advice, thank you. I'll do that.

quote:

-Heavies are your biggest friend, they're so good in fact you could consider early alien materials for vests to protect them (+2 hp matters a lot on impossible).

I don't have any, and yep, my worries are confirmed then.

quote:

-My preferred techpath is Alien materials > Meld > Fragments > Lasers - You could consider Experimental warfare before the lasers depending on how many scientists you have. You can also cut the Materials if you don't like vests, but I've found 8 days extra to Lasers compared to heavies surviving a LPR shot/PP Crit to be more than a fair trade.

Uh oh, already went for Weapon Fragments! I have a bad feeling about this.

quote:

-Savescum a bit during your first game, especially make a save before heading out to a mission, some abduction maps are near certain death without a good plan and some luck. Being able to go back and redo the mission on a different map helps a lot to alleviate some frustrations of restarting over and over. You should still expect it to take a few restarts to get going past the first month or 2 though.

Holy poo poo, I should prepare for the worst then. I'm playing Ironman!

quote:

-Once you hit month 3-4 and lasers become available the game eases up a lot, so plan around breaking those first 2-3.

*Crossing fingers*. Well, team... get ready to die, because here we go.

Last weekend I learned that wiping at your first Abduction mission on Ironman Impossible practically guarantees that your game is doomed to become an experience of pure torture, depression and hopelessness before the inevitable, crushing defeat.

I have also learned that you have no idea just how much the Aliens hate your loving guts and want to absolutely rape you until you've played Impossible. It's quite a big jump in difficulty from Classic, and this is from a person that was finding Classic to be quite easy.

Lastly, I'd love middle-ground in difficulty, one that is exactly this: Impossible level Tactical, Classic level Geoscape. Everyone freaking out so quickly is pretty brutal and frankly kinda silly too.

A friend of mine waited until he had Titan and all plasma technology before he assaulted the alien base. He also has 2 MECs. I had advised him not to do that, because the base defense would be very hard. He did it anyway.

Holy poo poo YES. I am not slightly reluctant, I actually consider it to be a very difficult choice, to have my soldiers look lame for the rest of the game or not. In contrast, MECs are incredibly badass and very, very useful too. In my current game I am so far skipping genemods altogether.

In case anyone was looking forward to other Take Two titles, in that same period releases will include Frontline DLC, NBA2K16, and WWE2k16, Nickelodeon Dance 5, and an unnamed Dora The Explorer title.

Hopefully TakeTwo will be in financial trouble in 2015 and have to merge a few titles together, giving us, "XCOM: Dora's Dangerous Adventures in a Mech Suit"

Let's not forget what Jake Solomon tweeted some time ago:

So I'm guessing we will be seeing:

1) A scorched Earth for the sequel;

AND/OR

2) Space battles, maybe a space base etc.

Which would be super cool, actually. We didn't get to see a Cydonia equivalent in this new game, it would be cool to have battles in some alien environments too. That alien garden in the original game's alien bases was always kind of terrifying to me.
