Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? or Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They? in english holy gently caress japan shorten your drat titles, is an action/fantasy anime about three jerks with ridiculous superpowers that get thrown into a foreign world, not unlike Dog Days. They then get roped into a series of games called the "Gift Games", games for people with gifts . The difference here is, as I said before, that these kids are jerks and they know it. Let's see them!

Izayoi Sakamaki (VA by Shintaro Asanuma) is the first of the bunch, and his superpower is to not give a poo poo. Was bored where he lived because he's incredibly overpowered, so he sees the Gift Games as something interesting to do.

Asuka Kudou (VA by Sarah Emi Bridcut) is the next. Her superpower seems to be mind control, or something similar. Incredibly smug and pompous, though she is nice to people that she respects (which doesn't seem to be many).

You Kasukabe (VA by Megumi Nakajima) is last. She loves animals (can you tell?), and her superpower relates to them somehow. Episode 2: She can use the abilities of animals that she's befriended. Neat. Is probably the least jerk-ish of the three, though that's not saying much.

Black Rabbit (VA by Iori Nomizu) is our heroes' guide to the Little Garden, which is the world the story takes place in (yes, her name is actually black rabbit). Is kind of a klutz and doesn't seem to be very powerful when compared to the main cast.

With strong visuals and an interesting cast, it's looking to be a great show. Episode 2 of 10 was just recently released. Also watch this OP, it's neat.

Check it out on Crunchyroll!

This show is awesome and episode two more or less cinched it for me.

"We got mad and did something without thinking of the consequences, we hold no regrets."

And oh man, that ED.

e: The set up is pretty good, we now know for sure that every situation won't be solveable through brute force but will eventually require clever application of their abilities if not in fact cleverness or knowledge above and beyond just their abilities. Since we see that the challenges presented can be pretty much picked at will if your community is resourceful enough to provide it (to the challengers). I wouldn't be surprised if at some point instead of a straight up challenge we get something like in episode one that nerfs them to not use their abilities; like a trivia game or a game of mahjong(wrong manga) jenga.

This isn't the kind of life-or-death gambling that I normally enjoy watching, but it'll do just fine. Black Rabbit's only going to get more and more irritating, though.

Watched the first two episodes back to back, it got kinda dark in a hurry in the second episode, unless that was just used to establish our villain is really is massively evil. Also wondering if despite the efforts to establish Izayou as the powerful one in the trio if You's friendship based megaman power will end up working with people too at a critical moment

You better be joking, this show is too awesome to be restricted like that. Think we'll get sequels or we getting that weird "last four episodes RUSH RUSH RUSH and fiiiinish."?

Well it's based on a light novel that's still going, so there's probably a chance for a sequel or at the very least OVAs if it sells well.

I proposed that he simply suffered from a case of an opulently dirty mind, and, rather than admit that his id was hard at work where he didn't want it to be, he transferred the icky horror of it to me, and removed the offending cartoon.

Anime News Networks shows that there are 12 episodes. MyAnimeList shows 10. Is ANN not known for accuracy in these things? The official site is done in graphics and Flash, so Chrome doesn't translate it well.

Birdcut looks like she might not be 100% Japanese. There are at least two pictures of her on the various sites for anyone with access to Google. This appears to be her first anime, but I think she's done other things. I can only imagine there are thousands of young Japanese wanting to become VAs and not that many roles.

I'm planning to watch this anime too. They better be planting that water-tree they boy got from defeating the dragon-water-god. I want to see it in action.

First ep didn't really convince me, but the second seemed more promising. I'll probably at least give it another couple to see how it develops.

ANN tend to list everything as 12 episodes until someone provides accurate data. Moon Phase doesn't list an episode count, but looking on Amazon.co.jp, there are 5 BD/DVD volumes, each with two episodes, so it does indeed seem to be 10.

Yeah, both those were pretty amusing.

I would say the show is moving at a reasonable pace, but having only 10 episodes is probably going to be a problem. Hopefully it does well enough to warrant a second season, I like what I've seen so far, and would prefer a continuation of a decently-paced (if short) first season.

Awkward phrasing, for the most part.

For kids with such big egos, it is nice how easily the three of them get along. You'd expect a lot of bickering, but I guess that just goes to show how isolated they were before.

Good episode. I like how the main guy, despite having "just" a bit of an ego, makes a plan which has somebody else getting all the fame.

Also, after watching the ED again, is it wrong that I want winning a dance-off to be the victory condition for a gift game?

Also thinking about asking for a new avatar, for the dancing chibi army.

This is actually pretty challenging. I tried to get all the most interesting poses. These should be within the size limits.

Edit: Adding the following:

I can only squeeze in about 6 frames. The whole "stomp" she did was about 100 frames. So, I chose six. Then, I still have to reduce the colors to get it from 43kb to under 30kb.

So let me see if I've got this straight (Ep 3 spoiler):

Asuka's Gift is Authority, and it allows the user to impose their will on the world (this might have alignment restrictions). She's been unknowingly putting all her points into the Control tree. Now she can will a sword to be a magic weapon (Enchant). Black Rabbit said something about controlling other Gifts though?

Also, how does You have super-strength? Did she befriend a bear or something?

It's probably lack of knowledge of the Inverse square Rule. The thing about certain smaller animals/insects having strength disproportional of their size, it's wrong when scaled up but there you have it.

I believe "Authority" is actually probably more akin to Western style "True Name" magic, like from the.... Earthsea Novels? Except being even more OP in that she seems to skip the needing to know the True Name requirements in exchange for having to deal with Spell Resistance/Saving Throws. So she True Named the sword to unleash its full power and give her the skills to use it.

I wonder if she can command someone to do something outside of their capabilities? Like, command some average nobody to throw a boulder or something equally ridiculous. Would they try and fail, or would her command gift give them the ability to do it? That's sort of what i'm guessing the Sword's deal was.

I interpreted it as her ordering the sword to impart its knowledge to her. Sort of like Saito's Gandalfr ability in Zero no Tsukaima lets him know exactly how to expertly use any weapon he touches.

According to an ANN news bit, sales for the light novel of Problem Children quadrupled after the anime started airing, which can only help the possibility of getting another season.

Also, dancing chibi army recruit reporting for duty!

So it was unknown rather than unpopular? Since light novels have been dominated by Kawahara Reki(Sword Art Online/Accel World) I find this easy to believe.

If it continues an upward trend I could see a small extra season happening. Just hope the anime keeps the hype train going.

I dunno. Once his card pulled up ??????? I figured conceptually he was a +1. Kind of like Superman or Goku, no matter how tough you are, he's your number Plus One. If they embrace it and really run with it, it could get pretty interesting on how they'll hamstring him for the games. Sort of like how the writers of Doctor Who have to separate him from his TARDIS or they don't really have a show.

I'm surprised this show isn't way more popular. It's got a solid cast and a giant blank canvas to really go nuts with the setting. If some of the later gambles get near Kaiji caliber I would take back all the terrible things I said about this season.
