The bane of my existence.

I'm still relatively new to Something Awful despite lurking the forums for a couple of years, so I'm looking for some of the best things that came from the SA forums and website. I was originally going to make this a thread about recommending threads in the forum but I felt that was too boring and generic, so I decided to make this thread a "Best of SA Thread". This is a simple thread. Just bring up and discuss your favorite things that came out of SA.

This includes:
• Threads (Both that are and are not archived.)
• Articles.
• Videos.
• Reviews.
• Artworks.
• Let’s Plays.
• Forum/Internet Drama.
• Internet Memes that were ran straight into the ground.
• Goon Projects.
• Anything else that was produced from SA.

Goons go hog wild.

modedit: This thread is going to be neither a new forums drama thread nor a secondary meme thread. You can post really actually 'the best' drama and memes, but if it gets out of hand gently caress you. Same thing goes for Let's Play drama. EPW 1/25/13

My favorite front page articles have always been Fashion SWAT. The best one is Halloween SWAT. The horrible elvis costume discussion still makes me laugh.

Also the Karnov Playset.

My favorite front page article series by far is the Blue Stripe logs.

They're all great, but I particularly like the very first one about the replicator repairman, the Predator blacksmith one, and the Terminator one.

Mr. Scabbs was the thread which got me to subscribe after lurking the SA forums for half a decade. That wasn't even the thread title, just the name of the main character. That story alone was worth $10. I don't have a link and you'd certainly need archives (if it's even still around) but I thought that someone made an offsite copy at some point. I always suggest Mr. Scabbs when these "best of" threads come along, so if anyone has links to this wonderful story please help me out. It was a Super Zombie CYOA that didn't devolve into "EAT YOUR OWN ARMS" and became a rather epic read.

EDIT: Pizza Matrix was amazing as well!

I consider this the test for anyone looking to post on these forums. If you find it funny at any point: you are one of us.

I said this last year but one thing I loved about SA when I joined was everyone was an rear end in a top hat to each other (but not a troll) and you were expected to be one back if it was warranted. Nowadays it seems like you'll run afoul of an SJW if you even crack one off-color joke.

My favourite classic SA moments: When Goons ate dog/pet food for a mod challenge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fIA7ivqId8

Also, the whole "At hospital, lost fingat" fiasco with the those funny goon responses for a goon wanting to get rid of his Gamecube. And the explosions, lots of explosions.

http://www.somethingawful.com/d/com...enge-fingat.php

More recently: A goon asking other goons to vote for him in the Logies (our Australian and shittier version of the Emmys) to point out the flaws in their voting system and to make up the most ridiculous acceptance speech. It got a lot of Australian press coverage.

"Getting women" as if they are objects to do what? gently caress them and forget about it? Some life. "Getting women" improves your social status amongst those who hi-five people for being "playa"s. Who gives a drat about being more social amongst those vapid wastes of food and employment?

Video games are a great way to have fun, and enjoy things that are availible to you in life. Not only this, but the making of a game is an art form - by playing through, say, an RPG, you are treated to a grand story that is just overwhelmingly more fufilling than going out, loving some chick, hi-fiving yourself and calling it a night.

Well well well, for front page articles you can't beat anything done by Zack "elpintogrande" Parsons. In particular this prison craigslist kinda series of frontpage articles.

And something I always recommend to read: THE LAND. Brief synopsis: guy wants to build a utopian paradise and gets money from goons or something and buys some land in hawaii, fucks everything up, gets most of his poo poo stolen, and eventually lives in a literal shithole.

Honorable mentions go to the low carb thread, zyborne clock thread, and a bunch of different E/N meltdowns.

How do I say, "You're the grossest thing ever" without offending you?

We're pretty good at collaboration work. Back in 2007, you'd see several MSPaint/PhotoShop/Choose Your Own Adventure threads in GBS every week until people stopped coming up with good ideas and the mods started cracking down harder. One of my favorites is the Goon Tower, followed by the 2012 Presidential Campaign Trail. And behold, Goonbase.jpg, at the height of MSPaint's popularity in GBS (and an assload of pop culture jokes that went out of style years ago). Make sure you're looking at it in its full 3725x4277 sized glory.

And then there's this memorable little guy, aka the Zybourne Clock of Choose-Your-Own-Adventures. Goons clamored heads over heels for official Microbe merchandise until the whole thing just fell apart from demand and pressure. CYOAs haven't been the same since.

Something awful indeed‎ - Michael Higgenbacher‎ - Jun 27, 2009
I am not sure what the purpose of this business is. I have been living in Pleasant Hill for over 25 years and I always check out the new businesses in town when they crop up from time to time, say hello and god bless and see what they are all about, etc. When I entered Something awful the walls were half painted, there were no chairs or coat racks, the establishment smelled like half eaten chinese food and there were no employees in sight, even though the sign said "open". I knock on the counter and shouted "hello" into the back room and i was approached by a surly, oafish man who called himself Rick and asked me if I was here about advertising. I said no sir I was just a resident stopping in to welcome you to the neighborhood and asked Rick if he was in the business of advertising. It was at that time that he called me a "retard" and said that if i didn't know what Something awful was about I had no business with him and should "get the **** out". Needless to say I did without another word and will not be returning. STRONGLY advise all comers to avoid this place of business! « Hide

Curtis Got Slapped By A White Teacher.

http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...hreadid=3364241

This is my favorite thread of all time, and it's one of the only things to ever make me laugh so hard I can't breathe. You do need archives to view it, but long story short is that a small black kid got slapped by a white teacher and the kid's mom writes a 40 page manifesto demanding financial compensation in ways like free trips to Disney Land for life (paid for by the school district, of course), free visits to meet the President, VP, etc., free dental and health care for everyone in their immediate and extended family, and $250,000 up front (because her son has a million dollar face, and the teacher slapped 1/4 of it ). She sent this thing to like 250 people, including the President, Secret Service, Bill and Hillary Clinton, their school superintendent, etc. It's completely batshit insane, and it's one of the funniest things I've ever read.

So since the SA thread is where the letter got posted for the first time, one of the first posts became the Google preview if you searched "Curtis got slapped by a white teacher", producing the greatest picture in the history of the world.

Zybourne Clock has been mentioned, but this particular manifestation deserves attention by itself

quote:

Johnny Fiveaces powered down the magnabike with a not quite unhearble hum and checked his chronometer. “drat.” he hissed threw his clinched teeth which were surrounded by the stubble of five days where in he had not shaven himself at all. It was almost chromodawn at Clashpoint. Alreddy the sun was sitting Walliston’s Hill ah blaze like so much molten meddle or a coin, gyreating in the air, tossed there by the uncaring hand of an imaginary god that doesn’t exist, borne from the interior minds of the hobbled masses. The sky was the color of a television tuned to a dead channel that was orange. drat, he, Johnny, thought. We thought we were opening a new beginning with our mad dreams of time travail but ironically the only time now is the time of which we’re out of. It’s almost humorous. Yeah, I could almost laugh, if I hadn’t cried that part of me away when my parents were maccasared by Dr. Malaprop and the government sanctioned murderers of “CAPITAL”.

He lit a Nicosheen brand swaggerette and took a dip drag, sinking farther into his inferior horologue. He thought of Nina and her mellifluous buttocks that he used to love to bang. Even now his nano enhanced hearing could almost hear her vagina lips quivering with moisture and also pleasure, like a slice of synth-ham being tongued by one of Malaprop’s slamhounds. When he got back to City5, he was going to do some sex, no doubt about that. “That’s right doll” he said to nobody and the wind. They were going to do it hard. He smiled, blowing smoke from his nostrils. They were going to do it cyber hard.
