Code S Season 2 Round of 32 Starts April 4th![]() See second post for Team League Info ![]() 2013 Season 2 will be the first Heart of the Swarm GSL. Code S for Newbies In Korea there are two main 1v1 leagues the GSL (Global Starcraft2 League) and OGN (OnGameNet). OGN has only had one event to date as they were broadcasting Starcraft: Brood War until recently while GSL has had a total of ~18 leagues depending on how you define a few of them. It's a tiered system where Code S is the highest level, Code A is the 2nd tier. In order to get into Code S you need to qualify from Code A the previous season or be given a seed by the GSL (Rain and Last are seeded for season 2). To get into Code A you need to go through a series of qualifiers (traditionally called 'Code B') the previous season or have remained qualified depending on your placement in the previous season's Code S/Code A. Qualification is pretty complicated, here's a link to a chart: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraf...12_Season_1.jpg Code S is the most prestigious 1v1 event in the world. It has the most difficult field of players and has a grueling single elimination schedule. It has two group stages (ro32, ro16) followed by a single elimination bracket with the final 8 players. Previous winners of the GSL include players like MVP, Nestea, Fruitdealer, MVP, Polt, MMA, Seed, MVP, DongRaeGu, Life, MVP, RorO, and MC. Also Jjakji and Sniper but nobody really remembers them. How do I watch it? Through GOM TV's Website, they use a flash player now. No more installing gomplayer! We're also on twitch now with free 720p for WCS! Link! High quality is free if you watch it live, any VOD requires a subscription to gom or twitch. GOM Tickets: http://www.gomtv.net/ticket/index.gom (There is no clear answer on what's better between subscribing to twitch or subscribing to gom if you want vods, pick which you want) Code S is on at 5am EST, 11am CET, 6pm KST. What about Code A? Code A games are broadcast on Code S off-nights. Normally they do two blocks of 4 best-of-3 series. One at 11pm EST/5am CET/1pm KST, and the second at the normal Code S time (4am EST/10am CET, 6pm KST). The first batch will often be subscriber only, while the second prime-time block will contain bigger names. It can be pretty confusing to know when things are on so the GOM site has a handy schedule that goes day by day: http://www.gomtv.net/schedule/index.gom Who do I watch it with? Tasteless and Artosis for Code S. ![]() Wolf and Khaldor cast Code A/Up and Downs/GSTL. ![]() ![]() To chat with goons use use: #GSL on irc.synirc.net Who is playing? GSL has the best English production of any Korean event by a huge margin. Tasteless/Artosis are the best casters and Gom actually spends the attention/money on English graphics and a stage/production effects. It's the best way to get into Stacraft 2. ![]() GOMTV Global Starcraft II Team League The GSTL was the first Team League for Starcraft II and has had seven seasons to date. It will be played on HOTS and feature 8 teams. Unlike Proleague it only uses the All-Kill format. This season we have a new format that starts with a round-robin group stage bo7 All-Kill, then the top 5 teams are seeded into a single elimination playoff bracket that's bo9. There was a pre-season tournament won by Incredible Miracle and the GSTL proper starts March 22. How to Watch Same stream/way as with GSL either via gom's website or twitch. It's a different subscription than your GSL ticket to get HD/access to VODs. My personal opinion is that GSTL isn't really worth the money like GSL is. There just isn't enough content to justify it as there are only a few matches a week and no Code A equivalent. Gom's site: http://www.gomtv.net Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/gomtv_en GOM Subscriptions: http://www.gomtv.net/ticket/index.gom A twitch subscription for normal GSL WILL NOT cross-cover GSTL for VODs. GSTL is on Friday 6pm KST and Saturday 1pm KST. Why Watch? The GSTL is a lot of fun due to teams trash talking each other and having ceremonies. It's also where teams will bring out their new young talent. Guys like DRG first made their mark in the GSTL. It's different than GSL as players can't rely as much on pre-planned strategies for each map/player as they don't know for sure when they'll come out. Play Fantasy With Goons! Go to: this TL thread and register then join the RIP Zeez group by clicking here and then the green plus sign next to rip zeez. You may not be able to register after the round starts on 3/21! The Teams New Teams: Azubu, Axiom-Acer ![]() Prime 2012 Season 3: Round of 8 Key Players: MarineKing Byun CreatorPrime won GSTL 2012 Season 1 by having MarineKing kill everybody, but since then they have struggled due to their small roster and MarineKing's ![]() Incredible Miracle 2012 Season 3: Round of 8 Key Players: Mvp![]() Yoda Losira Nestea Squirtle Seed YongHwa MC FirstWinners of the first GSTL back in 2011, LG-IM-SK is a who's-who of GSL winners. Unfortunately their big names like Mvp, Nestea and MC have underperformed in team leagues historically. Losira has had a bit of a resurgence this GSL and has always been a great team league player, while Seed has been playing a ton of HOTS. They have a lot of depth and should make it through a round or two. They started playing HOTS before most of the other teams and MC/Mvp/Yoda/First all look very dangerous. They should definitely make the playoffs and likely have a top 3 seed. ![]() StarTale 2012 Season 3: Round of 4 Key Players: Bomber Hack Curious Life AceStarTale always does well but is yet to actually win a GSTL. The losses of Parting and Squirtle really hurt their roster as they've gone from one of the deepest line-ups to fairly one dimensional. They still have a lot of depth with guys like SuHoSin and Sparta on the bench but the heavy lifting will be done by Life, Curious and Bomber. They will make the playoffs and likely have a top 3 seed. Life is the best player in the world after all. ![]() FXOpen e-Sports 2012 Season 3: Winners Key Players: GuMiho TheBest Leenock Lucky Tear GrubbyFXO has won two straight seasons for good reason. They have a deep talented roster with many players who can snipe certain match-ups. Both Lucky and Leenock are fantastic team league players and GuMiho is a team league monster, memorably all-killing Slayers in the 2012 Season 2 Final then knocking off Parting/Life against StarTale in 2012 Season 3. They are among the favorites to win. ![]() MVP 2012 Season 3: Runner-Up Key Players: Keen Dream Noblesse DongRaeGu Sniper Monster TAiLS VampireMVP used to rely on DRG killing everybody but now boasts one of the strongest all-around rosters in GSTL. DRG and Sniper are their best players and their Terrans are all excellent. They're one of the most dangerous teams in GSTL and should make it to the playoffs, likely in the 3-5 seed range. ![]() New Star HoSeo 2012 Season 3: Last (ro10) Key Players jjakji Brave TassadarNSH has performed badly in recent GSTLs due to their small roster and lack of big guns. Jjakji's pretty reliable in team leagues ![]() Azubu 2012 Season 3: Did not participate Key Players SuperNova GanZi BboongBboong Symbol Violet GeniusA new team made up of random free agents, ex-TSL, and ex-oGs, Azubu has an extremely talented core and decent depth. SuperNova's been playing a lot of HOTS while BboongBboong has had a bit of a resurgence in Code S making it to the ro16. It will be interesting to see if some of the players they picked up who have been out of the limelight a while (Genius, TOP, Vines, Inca) can perform. Violet and Symbol should be able to get them to the playoffs, likely on the bubble between 4-6. ![]() (I couldn't find a decent quality of their logo and this is cooler anyways) Axiom-Acer 2012 Season 3: Did not participate Key Players MMA Ryung Heart Miya Scarlett Alicia CrankA partnership between Axiom and Acer seems pretty logical as they're both made up of ex-Slayers players. This would be a fantastic team if it were a year ago as most of their players were better then. Alicia and Crank haven't been heard from in a while and MMA's been a shadow of his former self. Scarlett is yet to play HOTS in a tournament and it will be interesting to see if she can contribute. They're very talented but have a pretty small roster and have been inconsistent. I'd say they're a long shot to get past the first round but they'll be entertaining. ********************************************** I hope I didn't ruffle any feathers by making a new thread. The last one was a few seasons old. VDay's OPs are always amazing and if he wants to make one I can close this or embed! Tonight we have Group A with: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() From left to right: Life, Symbol, Creator and Byul StarTaleLife won season 4 of 2012 and won an MLG the same month. He's one of the best players in the world and is fantastic at ZvZ. Symbol is currently teamless after TSL disbanded, so he's a bit of a question mark. I don't know how he's been practicing or with who. He normally plays a very macro heavy monster zerg style. He drew the unlucky card of having to play Life first. CreatorPrime is the lone protoss. He had some good results in the latter part of last year including winning TSL4 and winning WCS Korea. I'd pick him to advance with Life. LG-IMByul qualified via Code A and then the Up and Down matches. He recently joined IM after leaving Fnatic and is the worst player in this group. He could probably still win an IEM or something though. Mandoira fucked around with this message at Apr 17, 2013 around 09:08 |

I am so hyped for GSL. I thought I was enjoying IEM and proleague and stuff but gently caress that, Artosis screaming 'NESTEAAAAAAAAAA IS BAAAAAACK' has reminded me of the true home of StarCraft. MVP WILL win this season On a more sour note, GOM need to get their poo poo together. I bought the yearly pass cause I'm a nerd but their stream lags like gently caress, yet Twitch is both flawless AND has no delay. I want to watch on Gom cause I paid for the HQ and want them to have my money not twitch, but they said the would be fixing this and they still havent

I also don't think they said it was going to be on twitch until today which is a bit shady. Still at least gom acknowledged it and they have a history of treating their customers fairly so it should be resolved soon. They offered refunds though I don't know if you'd be able to get one now short of bitching out customer service or something. I miss street fighter guy player intros

MC in the oGs shirt So tonight we get 2 zerg, a toss and a terran so maybe we can avoid ZvZ. Group B ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() FXOLeenock is one of the best players in the world and is coming off winning IPL5 and winning/placing 2nd in back to back MLG events. Normally he only loses because he runs into Life (see Ironsquid 2, 2012 MLG Fall Championship, 2012 Blizzard Cup). He'll finish first in this group. Team8TY (aka BaBy) is a KESPA Terran. He finished last in his group at Code S last season but did well in code A beating Flash and Symbol to get back here. StarTaleCurious is a regular in Code S, having kept his spot for 7 straight seasons. It will be between him and MC to finish 2nd. SKMC the Bosstoss is the coolest player in the world and is a 2-time GSL winner. Unfortunately his results haven't been quite as good as they used to be (likely due to not being in a training house and the general state of non-Parting protoss players). Expect aggressive play and great mechanics. MC normally has a few timing builds to show off but he'll be hard pressed against Leenock/Curious. Well GOM apparently can't link Twitch and Gom subscriptions (can't they just give everyone a loving code on twitch?) so the only way to get twitch HQ is to buy it and get a gom refund. However I have no idea if twitch will do all year or whats going on, and at $20 a season its gonna be more expensive than the gom yearly anyway. Plus, if twitch only do one season, I'll have to buy another gom ticket at either higher individual gsl season prices or another yearly pretty turd situation http://www.gomtv.net/forum/view.gom...14&cid=0&kind=8
