![]() Let's play the 2012 game of the year: Journey! Is this a remake of the innovative Infocom game of the 80's? No. It is an entirely new game and is, in a way, the opposite type of that game. There are no words and no explanations. The viewer is welcome to decide what anything means, if it means anything at all. What is it, then? Journey is a game created by: ![]() It is only available on the PS3 platform and this is unlikely to change which is unfortunate because it is arguably the most critically acclaimed game of the past several years, let alone 2012. Journey is not a large game, but what it lacks in length it makes up for in girth. I apologize for that. NO SPOILERS Please folks, this is not a long game. You can wait to talk about things that are coming up. Let the new viewers be surprised. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Banners created by Jeek. Oh jesus I have been waiting for this forever. Curse this game's PS3-exclusivity. Everything about this game I have been salivating over since they announced it.

Wow, that game is beautiful! Had some friends tell me about this and how it was quite an experience. Now i think i know what they were talking about. I will be following this one eagerly!

Fact: If I hadn't played this already on a friend's PS3, this game would be at the head of the list of reasons I want to buy a PS3.

Is it weird that I'm awed at how good the sand looks in this game? The whole package looks simply spectacular though! So is this a game where you can see everything in one run or does it take multiple to get the whole experience?

I will have a couple bonus vids after the main LP just to show a couple trophies and fun things you can do/see. I will not be exploring glitches, though. The sand looks even better in 1080p on a big screen. I'm glad you picked up on the sand, actually, as it is a very nice, subtle, effect.

Wow, I knew this game was beautiful, but now that I'm seeing it in motion it's stunning. I love how the visuals, music, and animation comes together to just pull you into this desolate world. It's like this game was made to be watched as well as played! Great choice for an LP!

The Extra Credits guys did a fantastic two part introspective on this game that really helps you look at the mechanics and story over all. I highly recommend watching it. Edited because I am a dumb. PizzaThief fucked around with this message at Jan 24, 2013 around 02:41 |

I now regret not getting this game. Looks beautiful! Very cheerful as well; really enjoyed the soundtracks and effects. The way you did the let's play was terrific. Nothing much to say there; subtitles are the way to go on this one.

I like the subtitled approach very much, hearing people talk during Journey LPs drove me mad when i was trying to watch the game due to my lack of PS3. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, i'd actually appreciate an alternate video without subtitles / with the option to disable them. Not to suggest that i dislike the commentary, but sometimes you just want to watch the Journey, you know?

Yeah, I kind of feel the same? I mean, the subtitles are basically what makes it the LP, but with a game as gorgeous and straightforward as this, I kind of want to experience it as-is. That might just be because I don't have a PS3, and never got to play it, though. Would it be too much to ask for an unsubtitled version to go up along with the normal one, so we can experience it before we go back and see your thoughts on it?

I'm glad someone went and LP'd this game, Journey is one of those games I'd really like to play, but since I don't have a PS3, no dice.

I almost feel like this game shouldn't be LP'd. Due to how short it is and how...well, just how it is in general, the nature of the gameplay and your relationship with it, it feels like, knowing what's going to be coming saps some vital aspect of the game away. Then again, I also feel like this game took 3 years to make and can be beaten in less than two hours, so...LP away I suppose. This game is really really good. It's a hard game to describe, and kind of a hard game to summarize, but it manages to be very evocative at basically every second of the game. I think they could have made a longer game an not sacrificed the impact of what you get, but what you get is pretty loving great.

If I may say so, I think the subtitles are extremely unobtrusive and in fact quite fit the mood. It's quite easy to soak in the atmosphere even with them there. Anyway, this game looks chill as hell and I look forward to more.

I was originally going to do the LP without the subs. I was informed that that would not really be a LP and could get me in trouble on the hosting sites. I am very glad that people are able to follow along without the subs. As for non-subbed versions, I will just say maybe for now.

Because of this thread, I now know more about soldering than I did. Still can't install Journey, but it's getting there. That said, have you considered having a downloadable copy with soft subs? Dual-Commentary, if you will. e: Ah, I guess that would necessitate a non-YouTube host, though. So there's that.

Yeah this is why I didn't make a similar post in this thread when I first saw it. This is a game that really needs to be experienced firsthand, but since that's not an option for a lot of people this is as good an alternative as there's going to be.

There's something rather beautiful about this game. A kind of desolate beauty, but unlike say the dead feel of Shadow of the Colossus, or the heavy depressing bleakness of Dear Esther, this one has an inviting warmth to it. Having anonymous fellow travellers coming and going probably helps too.

Is there a limit to how many times you can replay the game and increase the embroidery on your robes, or can you just have robes that are completely gold?

I've been waiting to see this game for a while, as I'd heard good things before from an atmospheric standpoint; it certainly doesn't seem to disappoint so far. I know it's a seemingly little thing, but the manner of communicating by varying, indecipherable chirps between wanderers? It's wonderful.

So, I noticed some glowing going on when you were walking next to the other wanderer, is that a cosmetic effect or what? Also, I'm really liking the music in this game so far.

It looked like whenever the other guy whistled, a glow formed on his screen to point the direction of where the other dude was.

The large chirp recharges the other person's scarf. Physical contact with them recharges both their scarf and yours.

Thanks for the LP. This is one of those games that I wish I had a PS3 for, so it's nice to finally see it. Also, good choice using subtitles to preserve the atmosphere. I think someone yakking over the game would ruin it a bit. And yeah, the score to this game is pretty great so far.

There's a track that plays during the final level that... there's no words. It's probably the pinnacle of videogame music. Basically, there's a reason it got nominated for a Grammy.
