Looks like 21 people didn't realize Last of McGuinness falls in the 2013 category. Booker T & Josh Matthews deserved worst announcer much more than Michael Cole. HulkaMatt fucked around with this message at Jan 24, 2013 around 01:59 |

I guess it's more a testament to how far off the map joshi's fallen but Natsuki*Taiyo not being anywhere in a "best flying wrestler" category is kind of a shame. She doesn't do lots of fancy flips but her dives and splashes and such are picture perfect aided by the fact she moves like the goddamn Flash. Also at this point they may as well rename "Best Technical Wrestler" to "The Bryan Danielson Award For In-Ring Excellence" or something.

The awards reminded me of how loving awful Kane was in the first three months of this year. It makes it even harder to believe how much I enjoyed him as a character once he got involved with Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, and AJ.

Jim Ross winning best announcer is ridiculous - I really love JR and thought he was pretty off in 2012, mostly because they weren't playing to his strengths and letting him do Play by Play. Nigel should have won that one. Also I'm surprised that Elgin/Richards and Taker/HHH are both so "low" on the list, and especially that Brock/Cena beat both. That was an amazing watch with an ending that just completely fell apart, whereas Elgin/Richards started well and improved out of sight by the end and Taker/HHH was great from start to finish.

The fact that "best box office draw" is still a thing people vote on instead of just a piece of trivia Dave tells everybody at the end of the year is still really stupid.Jerusalem posted:Also I'm surprised that Elgin/Richards and Taker/HHH are both so "low" on the list, and especially that Brock/Cena beat both. I know next to nothing about wrestling so I can't really judge this much but I find it really funny mixing MMA events/fights/feuds in this list, and it's downright shameful Chael Sonnen didn't win every category he's in

He lives up to the hype, as does Okada. Still can't believe Okada's the same dude who wasted away as a lovely valet in TNA.

Elgin/Richards was great but ultimately forgotten. Cena/Lesnar was incredible and stood out from everything in WWE and Suzuki/Tanahashi was more recent and was talked up endlessly by the Observer. Ibushi is the best but the language barrier means he'll never get a shot in the US. I hope Ricochet gets signed by somebody.

Agree with a lot of the awards this year. Situation with Technical/Brawler/High Flyer is kind of upsetting as I thought others deserved it. I'm fine with Steen, but I feel the other 2 were pure reputation votes. Overall: Wrestler of the Year: My #2 vote. Voted Okada at #1 MMA Most Valuable: My vote. Most Outstanding W: My vote. Most Outstanding F: My vote. Best Box Office Draw: Don't care. Best Feud: My vote. Best Tag Team: Fine with it. Voted GET WILD at #1. Most Improved: My vote. Best on Interviews: My #3 vote. Voted Rock at #1 Most Charismatic: My #2 vote. Voted Nakamura at #1 Best Technical: My #3 vote. Voted Nagata at #1. Bryan really is winning on reputation at this point. Best Brawler: My vote. Best Flying Wrestler: My #3 vote. Voted Omega at #1. Ibushi had very little buzz with me this year, don't think he should have won it, honestly. Most Overrated: Didn't even vote Ryback. Voted Miz at #1. Most Underrated: My #2 vote. Voted Tomohiro Ishii at #1 Promotion of the Year: My vote. Best Weekly TV Show: Eugh. Voted Infinity at #1. Match of the Year: Think this was mainly influenced by Dave. Voted Okada vs. Goto at #1 MMA Match of the Year: My vote. Best Rookie: My #2 vote. Voted Eita at #1. Best Non-Wrestler: My vote. Best TV Announcer: My #2 vote. Voted Nigel at #1. Worst TV Announcer: My #3 vote for some reason. Voted Booker T at #1. I must have forgotten about Josh Matthews when voting, absolutely don't think Cole should have won this year based on his second half. Best Major Show: My vote. Worst Major Show: Voted Genesis. Best Move: My vote. Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic: My vote. Worst TV Show: My vote. Worst Match of the Year: Voted Flip Cassanova vs. Dakota Darsow Worst Feud: I had voted "Ryder vs. Kane" but I guess this is sort of my vote? Worst Promotion of the Year: Voted WWE. Best Booker: My vote. Best Promoter: Voted Sanshiro Takagi. Best Gimmick: Yeah, my vote. Worst Gimmick: Voted Claire Lynch. Best Book: N/A Best DVD: My vote. Would have voted Last of McGuinness but figured it wasn't eligible until next year. HulkaMatt fucked around with this message at Jan 24, 2013 around 02:43 |

The Shaman of Cum posted:i'm truely baffed at tna winning best show, and worst promotion, and second place for worst show well, I can see them winning best show, because Impact was the most consistently decent (for the most part), widely-available show for a good portion of 2012. at the same time, the company itself is still really, really dumb and still doesn't know how to promote. winning best show and being second place for worst show is funny, though.

Random question, which is probably 'Because Dave' but why does Dave not put the team names in the tag category for everyone that has one? He even noted that Bad Influence (which is apparently Kaz and Daniels' name?) won, but they and Hell No are listed as the individual guys.

I think the one thing that's really glaring to me about this list is just how dead wrestling is. Not failing dead, but just completely lifeless. At least a few years ago you had ROH tearing poo poo up and WWE having a cache of older stars + laughably bad TV. How many of these votes were legacy votes or default votes aka "Well nothing really stood out so I guess I'll vote for that?" Feud of the Year is just so sad. Okada vs. Tanahashi, sure, great matches. But the rest: 2 MMA feuds, Cena vs. Rock which was nothing remotely special, and Punk vs. Bryan which was even less so. Then at #6 you have Punk vs. Cena, which was DOA in the summer of 2011. ROH, the company that was usually good for at least one memorable grudge feud a year isn't even on the list.

What exactly is the difference between "Wrestler of the Year" and "Most Outstanding Wrestler"? Awards seem basically sensible to me, although I think Steen vs Elgin deserved to be at least on the list, I personally enjoyed it more than Richards/Elgin. Don't even remember the WMOTY, the really terrible Cena vs. non wreslter match that that I would would have selected was Cena vs Cole. Nut Bunnies posted:
Yeah, from a pure in ring perspective I thought 2012 was bettert than '11, but I can't really think of any feuds that were really memorable outside of CHIKARA, and this wasn't their best year either.

Thought Richards should have won Best Technical. He just proved it in more matches I'd say.

Glad Joseph Park won best gimmick. Glad Impact ended its long reign as worst show on television. TNA stepped up this year and became, well, watchable most of the time. Personally I would of given worst promotion to Ring Of Honor. Oh how far they've fallen. On the WWE front, the Three Hour format seems like the death-bell for major wrestling companies. When they spread it to three hours, you can expect even more suckage. God Of Paradise fucked around with this message at Jan 25, 2013 around 03:57 |

She needs to be renamed "Golden Kong" because she's going to be every bit the wrestler Aja or Awesome Kongs were after they got rolling. Yoshiko was much more impressive than Saturyne, who bounces too much between great high-flyer and botch machine. Flameingblack fucked around with this message at Jan 24, 2013 around 14:18 |

I have no idea what "technical wrestler" means at this point. Does Tanahashi even work the mat? Might as well give him Most Outstanding Fighter while they're at it. Nice to see Casas and Panther get some recognition, anyway.

In no universe is Cole a worse announcer than Taz, especially the turned-down Cole of this year.

Taz is the best/worst

Cole's work the night of the heart attack alone should keep him from even being considered for worst commentator. And I don't remember when he first showed up, but that dude who replaced Nigel in ROH should win in a loving rout because he is horrible to a degree mere words cannot describe.

Ill say this much about Impact winning Best Weekly TV Show: it was consistently entertaining and had fun, compelling storylines for about ten weeks after they fired Russo. Meanwhile Raw has occasional flashes of brilliance and some very talented performers, but it's also booked at the last minute by a nutcase who changes his mind every six minutes which led to some truly truly horrible television this year. And Smackdown, though very good, is at this point pretty blatantly the B-show (maybe even C-show since they've started pushing Main Event so hard). You can never watch smackdown at all and not even miss a beat in terms of following all the major angles. e: sportsgenius86 posted:Cole's work the night of the heart attack alone should keep him from even being considered for worst commentator. With the switch to 3 hours, RAW has produced some truly awful television this year. Worse yet, the show seems to be incompetently booked and timed out, so that they have 3 hours and still manage to leave out obvious things while filling it with lovely padding and replayed video packages. RAW definitely earned its status as worst show this year. As bad as Impact or other shows can get, they're still a fun way to spend a couple of hours sometimes. I'm looking at the time during RAW by the first hour's end and most times I have to tap out by by 9:30 and just fast forward through it later.

Taz is the best/worst That's true, and *I* enjoy Taz when he goes off on his tangents, but it's hard to make a case for him not being dead-last on that poll because he actively detracts from the product. Karmine posted:Counterpoint: everything they've done on-air since the heart attack has been loving insufferable. Cole himself has not been insufferable and has fallen back into the role of the straight man to Lawler or whomever he's placed next to. If there was any doubt before, it's crystal now that Lawler is the weak link of that team.
