Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
Things get worse and worse. The flesh tears at itself, cascading waves of blood fall upon everyone, Tagur'hah's mammoth central body and eye rip themselves upwards and his colossal black tentacles rise slowly. The Swarms tearing at some of you surge with frenzied vigor and then suddenly break apart, every tiny member falling apart as rot. Tagur'hah's massive central body ruptures and splits and the eye swivels around desperately in the dark before it too caves in under sheer rot. In his final psychic projections Tagur'hah visits the vision of the ashen specter looming over the husk of the world to everyone(in dreams to the unconscious) and moans <"He can never die...">

And then the floor dissolves, the whole of the fleshy bits joined to the Wall breaking down! Everyone falls into darkness, darkness so immense there's no sense of how long they fall! Until the splash. Everyone lands in the same lake-sized body of water, gentle and cool water, clean water that doesn't tingle or begin to eat you. The remaining structures around you are the vibrant green vines of the original Wall, and you can hear the occasional trickle of water rushing towards some sort of opening.

It's still dark, making it difficult to see past the full circumference of the lake and with Jeffry's psychic links, you've felt some of your friends pass out. In the far North a shaft of moonlight is reflecting off an immense metal casing.

Everyone is now Level 10.

Well that was... odd.
Nessa makes her way north, to the metal whatever, half-dead but essentially fine enough for now.

If needed, Nessa can cast a pair of CLWs, for 3 and 9 hp. Jeffrys can redistribute these, right?

It is. Something about being brightly lit makes it easy to find.

(Yes. The only real need atm is for Hecate to be conscious, so she gets at least 7 points which is enough to get back to 1 HP and wake up. As an aside zachol I'm OK with Vanessa using her reactive resolve even if you missed your turn as that is how the ability functions, but without an explanation for missing a round deadline that's a missed round. Fortunately it's moot this time.)

Thorgeisl briefly glances around to see if he can find the heart of either of the beings they had just fought. Then he makes his way to the others, avoiding acid one way or another.

And know Thorgeisl will fly everywhere! At will Fly as the spell, self only, will basically recast it whenever it is getting close to running out.

Not sure if the new hit points should be added to the current hit points or just to the max hit points.

Fly the spell grants a good maneuverability, but as far as I can tell maneuverability is only used for natural fliers. Not sure if it should grant the +4 bonus that natural fliers get for that maneuverability or not.

To the North great strands of the vibrant green vines of the original Wall dangle down, fused at parts to the stark red flesh of Tagur'hah. A small body-mass has been formed by his body breaking down and collapsing, touching down at the edge of the small underground lake. With every second small bits of it disintegrate before your very eyes and green plant growth blooms rapidly around the fresh "compost."

A small hill before you is actually the popped remains of half of Tagur'hah's great milky white blind eye and the black tentacles that surround it in states of rapid decay. Near the eye you can see an Elven skeleton wearing a few articles of clothing clutching to something that pulses with concentrated energy of intense pure malevolence. It looks like a wicked metal belt where the buckle is a gaping maw with swirling rows stacked upon one another of sharp leech's teeth.

quote:

Gluttony

Belt, Thorgeisl

"It wasn't enough for the creatures to be sated or to feel safe, that their progeny would have food in the future. They consumed everything in the area and their territory expanded with every lap. A very human intent was taking root in their minds and they soon desired control." - Journal of Sath Barin in the Year 902 PR, on an entry concerning invaders in the depths of Ostorn's Wall.

-Grants +2 Constitution, Intelligence and Charisma. Stacks with any other Ability Score enhancements, including other items

-Grants the ability to conceal willing items, non-living creatures and corpses in a pocket stomach space accessed via the mouth. Functions as a Bag of Holding Type 3. Never works on unwilling targets. Can "produce" stored items with a standard action, depending on item requested and DM judgement. If the bag is overloaded Thorgeisl will immediately be reduced to 0 HP and "produce" all stored items as he ruptures.

-Grants Elemental Summon(2/Day) of Swarmlings: Summons a 2x2 square of Swarm that deals 2d6 + 1/2 Levels damage to a target in the squares they occupy at the end of their move and interrupts Concentration as per Swarm rules. HP 30, F/R/W 6/6/6, Speed: Fly 40 ft(Good), Distraction DC 15

Curse: Automatically destroys Ring of Sustenance. All penalties from Hunger happen three times faster(first check for Hunger penalties begins after 1 day of no food instead of 3.) All penalties are tripled.

Curse: Thorgeisl's hunger will drive him temporarily insane if he falls below 50% HP while Starving.

You find several other things as well. The remains of Sath Barin once wore items of great power, but they seem to be terribly warped.

The title of Arch Druid is typically only achieved after a hundred years of contemplation. The sanity of the two Sath was lost within a year. This delicate work of woven mithril-bark and thorns feels like it could break under the slightest pressure, but is surprisingly resilient. And a little bit too sharp. It should be worn carefully.

2/Day: Use when a Critical Hit needs to be confirmed. It is automatically confirmed. Does not work against crit-immune creatures.

Careful preparation is used with every part of the Wall, as natural minds tend to react instead of think. Creatures are territorial, plants have no concerns that involve risking contact with thorns and if you could be trusted, you'd already be immune to that poison.

Ring of Goat's Leaps - Grants +30 to Jump Checks and removes the limit of maximum jump distances, vertically and horizontally.

Decorated with charming little iron effigies of a cocky Goat or a smug Monkey, these rings seem like a great investment in practicality for someone who needs to travel the Wall's odd depths frequently.

Once they bled out and rotted away, Tagur'hah's glowing organs left behind some odd little hard bits. Although taking the "kidney stones" of a giant faceless evil seems a bit odd, they dissolve with a little beat of heat and add a vicious acidic finish to any weapon.

-Increases weapon's enhancement bonus by +1 and adds a 1d8 Acid Damage modifier to it.
-Also allows the weapon to ignore the first five points of hardness any inanimate object has. Mostly doors and mechanical traps and the like.

2x Glowy Organs

Armor Enhancement

There was also some small pools of the rainbow colored vibrant liquid that Tagur'hjah called his life's blood. It doesn't give off any violence or evil and seems to be a curious by-product of his merging with the Wall.

-Increases armor's enhancement bonus by +1 and adds Resist Acid/Fire 10.
-Makes the armor very bright and garish in a multi-colored way, adding +4 to Intimidate and Bluff.

(OH NO I FORGOT ONE PIECE OF LOOT)

quote:

Mask of the Everliving

Face/Head

Guraz's ornate ironbark mask has been cured of Tagur'hah's influence, leaving behind a majestic masquerade ball style mask of delicate white outlined with vibrant natural green. When you wear it, it fits comfortably and warmly and pulses to match your heartbeat, inducing a bit of a relaxing serenity that becomes natural and subconscious within seconds.

+3 Will Saves
+4 Diplomacy
1/Day: Slip-Up (Range 10 ft): Compels a target to speak a single truth. DC 10 + choice of Int, Wis or Cha Mod of wearer. Completely subtle and undetectable.

(A loot dump that big demands a double post! Also for Sath Barin's staff, all regular Stave rules apply except for the 10 charges/recharging via meditation thing for now.)

Hecate: In the guts of Tagur'hah, you discover one remnant of Ostarian... his acid-cleaned skull. That and Sath Barin's original, actual skeleton seem to be the scores as far as potential necromancy goes.

In Sath Barin's other hand is a small journal written in very tidy Elven. It describes a great deal of mundane everyday life leading up until small signs of trouble six months ago until things fell under complete chaos and insanity today. In the last three months, Barin and Renalt discuss at great length the future of Ostorn and the World itself, with Renalt voicing concerns about the "up-start" power of some of the younger races he traveled with and of the dark majesty of a Drow champion that joined them to face Ithor.

Barin agreed that Ostorn should be prepared to match the tenacity of figures like a Jorgen of the Lizard-men and a Phous Sahlen of the Draunt Empire. From there they became experimenting with a way to have an Elven Druid peacefully "ascend" with a bit of plant life growing within them, combining the best of the two... somehow, it didn't work out, especially once strange illnesses began circulating among the Druidic circles.

Behind Tagur'hah's remains is the source of the shaft of moonlight, a great tear leading skywards. It's a very strange tear, looking at first like it was caused by the collapsing metal, but it is in fact a "natural" tear, with man-made metal stair-cases descending through the Wall while avoiding cutting through as much of it as possible. The stairs look like they could collapse up and be hidden away, cascading neatly into themselves. There's really nowhere else to go so let's assume you head out. It is a nice scenic lake and all, but you might almost think that spending this much time in the great guts of an ancient evil and around strange claustrophobic plants might be unpleasant.

Scaling the stairs takes several minutes, leading up at a very rapid pace. The whole way is shrouded in the nice and shiny metal which reminds you of the steel-white glint of quality mithril, yet is not mithril, particularly as acquiring so much for mere architecture would be insane. A closer look would suggest it's less metal and more of a very potent ironbark.

Eventually you reach the top of the stairs and come to a clustered little lab that feels like it is very high up. The air is a tiny bit thinner and there is a cool breeze blowing through to you near the end of the ascent. The vines of the Wall have pulled back a bit here and there and the place feels like a natural room, as though the Wall and it's shapers put humanoid concerns in place for once. The remains of half-broken tables and some very old style lab equipment that looks like it was dragged here from the last fifty years of Geareg yard sales has been destroyed by the gradual overgrowth of unchecked vines. Water drips and pools at some places around the lab and it's clear that moisture gathers here everyday and drips off the vines along the ceiling.

Shuffle.

Riffle.

Shuffle. Riffle. Riffle Raffle. Shuffle.

There's somebody clearly here! In the corner of the lab you can see what looks like the shattered remains of a great glass pod filled with a weird pool of rotting green water left to stand awhile, and a pile of books that may have survived the water damage, a dozen small piles of leather-bound tomes with a few cast to the side and open to hand-written pages. Hunched in front of the spread of stacks Professor Pugen!!! feverishly claws his way through the books, scanning them at super-human speed before discarding them over his clearly broken and dislocated shoulder, which all the same reaches for another volume to begin poring over.

He looks horrible! His glasses are smashed off at one lense with the other scrunched into his eye, his scalp looks like it was nearly knocked off and he has a matching missing arm to go with Vanessa's! His body and outfit are covered with gaping wounds that reveal... metallic bits and spreads of sturdy wood covered in a thick finish? Every so often he produces one of his long, thin mechanical tool arms and takes a volume, declaring "Ah-hah!" to himself and pulling the book into his backpack, where it vanishes.

"Snake's blood, what an invention! What's your power source? Is it the whole body? Were these alterations prior, or did you do this after you were wounded? I figured you were augmented, but this is incredible! This is some incredible craftsmanship... Did you cast these parts yourself? What are the metals? Is this WOOD? Want to join a gang?" Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
Hecate: (Let's deal with animating Barin and Ostarian after this scene with Puggen.)

Elsewhere: A great pillar of fleshy red vines decays rapidly and falls apart into compost that the green hue of the natural Wall takes in quickly. As the pillar breaks away a squat figure in the middle of it shifts his weight from side to side several times, then lets out a bellowing "GWORRRRR!" before muscling his way out of the mass of flesh-tendrils that had him rooted to place! Willard does a slow 360 to take in his surroundings, then looks straight up at the ceiling in the middle of intense concentration.

"The Doctor is Up. Up, up. Go up."

And he resumes marching, not very put off by the absence of all of you.

Back at the Lab: Puggen is startled and thrusts himself straight up, steam pouring out in a frenzied disarray from his exposed metal bits! He whirls around and brandishes three of his four tool arms, the fourth port shooting out a bit of steam and sparks. "Hell's bells! You lot are alive!? Harumph... that probably means it'll be far easier for me to escape... and if you buffoons actually did what I asked, then the way out of Ostorn is clear? Ha ha!"

His remaining spectacle shimmers with an ominous bit of lighting reflected from inside... his exposed eye is little more than a vibrant gray-scale lightbulb, looking like some sort of crazy make-shift darkvision filter! "If the way ahead is clear, then why are you here?"

Coming around the side of an overturned piece of lab equipment, you can see the source of the breeze: A hole! In the wall! Leading outside! It's a hundred or so feet above the ground, but that's nothing compared to what you've been through to get this far! Not to mention several of your new talents.

Puggen regards you all warily. "Ho ho. I see. You're after Quint's research, aren't you!? You dull-witted woman, as if I care what you think of Druids! You're lucky to not be fodder for the darkness!" The sides of his backpack and torso begin to whirr... ominously.

Thorgeisl is not sure what this mechanical dwarf? thing is about, but it is acting rather suspicious. And well Thorgeisl is suddenly rather annoyed, as the hunger that struck him during the battle seems to be growing in intensity. And suddenly this Puggen is looking kind of tasty.

Energy crackles over Thorgeisl's arms, and bleeds from his eyes, as he looks at the creature. "No. You explain yourself. NOW!"

Not sure what to take, still have that chain from before, not sure if that would stack with a glowing organ. But they look to be mostly taken already and I would probably want better armor before using them anyway.

So I guess the Belt attached itself to Thorgeisl? Or he tried putting it on? And my Ring of Sustenance is already destroyed? So this Belt increases my Intelligence, do I get extra skill points then?

(I'll take the Monkey Ring and one of the organs to apply to the force gloves, if only to optimize my ability to break stuff since I already have the Bonebreakers too.)

In the tense stand-off, nobody notices a mustache vanish into the shadows behind the piles of debris.

quote:

So I guess the Belt attached itself to Thorgeisl? Or he tried putting it on? And my Ring of Sustenance is already destroyed? So this Belt increases my Intelligence, do I get extra skill points then?

(It's a cursed item directly for you. It's your choice whether or not to put it on. If you put it on, the Ring will be destroyed if you're still wearing it. You should gain one extra skill rank, I believe.)

Lefty steps up behind Puggen and gives his namesake knockout punch. If 19 hits him flat-footed, that's 2 force damage, 7 acid damage, and 55 bludgeoning/nonlethal damage.

: "We can all chat about this nice an' easy once yer not pointin' a buncha robot arm weapons at us, boss." Lefty's not entirely sure how to disarm someone that requires, well, actual disarming, but at the very least we can tie the guy up.

Lefty opens and shuts his hand a few times to work out the soreness from impact. Punching a guy with a metal-plated head stings a little.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
Puggen rears back at Hecate's outburst, then snarls at all of the threats! "You show your true colors! Very well, let us..." KRAK! Hisss... clonk. THUD! Lefty's namesake KO punch knocks Puggen's block clean off. Literally. The Dwarf's small head rolls along the ground, a great veil of steam flying out of the loose joints and a few hoses exposed in his "neck." The whirrs in his side stop and change to a symphony of clicks, followed by the sound of something angrily striking metal repeatedly.

His backpack and his very back begin to swell up rapidly! In the span of two seconds Puggen's back triples in size, then bursts open as a massive leather balloon puffs out and inflates! It's far too big to have ever fit inside the small Dwarf, but the massive zeppelin continues surging out long after it has burst open in Lefty's square(forcing a Reflex DC 20 or being thrown out the hole in the wall behind them!) The sides of a metal frame on Puggen's ruptured back shimmers with radiant magical energies, the balloon sliding out of the frame too small to hold it.

"Fools!" Puggen's headless body thrusts itself up with it's broken arm and it's metal tool arms and something is sitting in a small leather chair in a tucked in hole built into the collar-bone, surrounded by reinforced steel and an array of clanking levers and rods!

(Original art, thanks bee. :3:)

The pug speaks with Puggen's thick, calculated drawl and his face is creased with a Humanoid's intellect... and condescending disdain. His snout holds a pair of dainty reading spectacles and a pipe and monocle make him the very picture of classy hound. He sits on his rear and wags his curled tailed maniacally as he leans forward and uses his front paws as hands to manipulate the controls of the mechanical Dwarf, controls that seem designed to work with his limitations!

Puggen's takes an involuntary step backwards as the fully inflated zeppelin balloon has inflated to the point where it can move him. His tool-arms lunge towards the pile of Dr. Quint's notes to snatch as many as possible! "Had I munitions to deal with you lot once and for all, I would! Your bad manners are exceeded only by your bad manners! But mark this! I, Professor Puggen, shall by the dog that wags the tail in this situation!"

Jeffry, Sense Motive and Perception: Everything Puggen says is true. He's just a very focused and angry individual. You notice that there are a few named volumes in the notes that he is reaching for, which could determine what useful notes you might salvage from the missing Dr. Quint...

Everyone: What an amazing sight! Even with the best of reflexes and surges of adrenaline, you've got time to grab one pile of books... do you take Meta-Synthetic Fuels and Natural Sources or Warpwood Applications and Ironbark Theorums?!

I... uh. Huh. Did not see that coming.

Nailed the save. Lefty has no particular opinion on which book to grab out from under Puggen, but has another idea anyway. Any chance of whipping out a dagger, since this hot-air balloon is all up in my grill anyway? Dude just admitted to being out of ammo, so if we can pin him down here we can see what all the drat fuss is about.

Hecate

"WHAT." Hecate's too befuddled at how loving ridiculous the situation is, yet her reflexes force her to do something that might be a bit rash. She waves her hand and shoots five glowing arcane projectiles at Puggen's zeppelin, trying to stop it from flying away.

Once per turn, you can Tribute 1 WATER monster you control (except this card) to Special Summon 1 WATER monster from your hand. The monster Special Summoned by this effect is destroyed if "Raging Eria" is removed from your side of the field.
Vanessa

Nessa just watches blankly. As the whole situation falls apart, she stumbles back against a bookcase, sliding down to the floor, utterly exhausted.

Jeffry

The revealed Dr. Puggen is a shocker. No wonder he never let Jeffry use his abilities on him, it would of revealed the farce right away. But seeing Puggen snatching what clues they had found prompts him to act swiftly. He dashes forward and grabs Meta-Synthetic Fuels and Natural Sources.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
A frantic scramble breaks out as Lefty jabs a dagger into the balloon, Hecate unleashes a few random force bursts upon it to pop it at places and Jeffry snatches up some of the volumes about meta-magical nonsense, Puggen's arms scything along and taking in the Warpwood volumes.

Vanessa: It is a small relief that everybody else seems to be reacting to the latest intelligent speaking dog to show up.

Pop! Boom! Pwoooof!! Hsssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhh! Puggen screams eccentric curses as a sudden discharge of air sends him rocketing backwards and out the hole in the wall, as well as filling the rest of the room with a powerful and sudden gale-force wind. It only lasts briefly though the terrible force feels as though it could've carried you out with him if it continued!

All that's left is to climb down the Wall and to choose your destination. You had some unfinished business in Ashdown involving a crazy Dwarf that you left in a net, as well as some townsfolk you had met before. There's also the issue of the fate of the Elven people further in Ostorn, what with Tagur'hah being cut down and all and the allusions to the entire country becoming a feeding basket. Although the last time you had tried to leave Ashdown there had been rifts in the land and the threat of swarms of plant-people, you've got a good feeling about a lot of that now. And some surges of power granting better travel options. You could always just return home as well, which will involve the same lengthy travel time and probably some fresh rations or hunting to prepare for it, but you get the feeling that Richard might appreciate a more thorough scouting of Ostorn. It feels like it has been months since he asked you to simply come over here and to make contact with any surviving Elves and scope the situation.

For now, just getting down the Wall and surviving the fight with Tagur'hah has left you all properly exhausted as night falls. Finally, everybody gets a chance to rest and recover spells/some HP.

Later that Night: Hecate sets the reagents, prepares the spells and begins raising the dead. Sath Barin's skeleton reluctantly sits up, having been stripped of everything it died wearing. The skull's jaw drops in silent mid-scream as it looks around, flailing blindly and trying to feel it's own flesh or the ground. After a few moments Barin calms down and looks at Hecate with hollow sockets, his torso occasionally rising and falling slightly in a habitual mimicking of breathing. "Summoner... what do you wish to know? Send me back. Mine is to serve in Limbo."

Marisa: With some concern you notice that Vanessa looks tougher than you now. Does that make her your Boss?

Vanessa: It's extraordinarily difficult to remove your armor with one arm.

Thorgeisl Whose Laughter Stinks of Killing
HP 118/118, AC 15, Fort +9, Ref +4, Will +6
DR 3/All (Overcome only by Cold and Electricity)
Speaks: Common, Giant, Undercommon, Orc, Sylvan, Draconic, Aquan, Auran, Ignan, Terran, Dwarven, Elven. Drow Sign.
Celestial, Infernal, Abyssal

Thorgeisl doesn't really know how to react to all this. The energy building up bleeds out in confusion. He watches as the zeppelin pops and goes flying. He shakes his head and accompanies the others down and out. Once they are free and ready to rest he quickly looks for something to eat, removes his ring and places the belt on. He debates handing the ring to someone else, but is not sure if he trusts them well enough. As the hunger intensifies he eats, then for the first time in a long time sleeps a full night.

Marisa

Marisa spends most of the rest of the day cursing herself for not moving faster to grab the tome on Ironwood, having sufficiently researched alternative power sources. Still, she spends the day bugging Jeffry to let her have a look at the notes he snatched. As the day draws to a close and they all have a moment to relax, Marisa approaches Vanessa seperate from the group and hands her a beer. "I think cuttin' off your own arm is about the toughest thing anybody's ever done. Congratulations on being my new second in command! How are ya feelin? Still hearin' things?"
