Thorgeisl Whose Laughter Stinks of Killing

Thorgeisl enters the establishment, taking a curious look around. It looks high class, though the clientele does not. He begins to make his way through the crowd, stopping for a moment to listen to the song, and for another to glance at the Owlbear head. He continues his search for the meeting, thinking back on how the city had disappointed him so far. The call of Mandel, a new homeland had been strong recently. But Thorgeisl cannot. He has been too shamed, to changed. He is not worthy of setting foot on his new homeland.

This city may have disappointed him, not lived up to all the stories. Yet perhaps this meeting will lead to a change, a chance to regain some worth. Presumably the bouncers are already aware of Thorgeisl's arrival, allowing him to pass. Soon he finds the table, and with a nod. "Greetings."

Thorgeisl ignores the lady talk. He always knew the dwarves were savage people, but to be so blind. Well it was none of his business if the Dwarf could not tell male from female.

He finally speaks up, "Well I am hardly the stealthy type." He indicates Oreom, wistfully remembering when he himself once had the strength of ten men, "perhaps the two of us can accompany anyone meeting with this Corporal Carbon, under the guise of bodyguards."

When the time comes it is a simple matter for Thorgeisl to take on the appearance of a simple bodyguard, a tough only useful for his muscle. Yes Thorgeisl is far weaker than he once was, going from beyond the mortal pale to actually below average. Yet his weakened state is not visible, the massive half-giant still has the stature and apparent mass of his kind.

Of course he leaves the talking to Hecate, though he has gained some skill with words since his horrific transformation it would not do to break character.

Thorgeisl makes as if to intercept Colonel Carbon when he approaches Hecate, but stops as if from a secret signal from the lady. He frowns all the same. Secretly he agrees with Oreom on the sight before them, but he is committed to playing the act of bored, and perhaps a bit simple, bodyguard.

Thorgeisl moves as if to intercept the bubble from Hecate when it begins expanding, though he winces when the bubble touches his flesh. Whether it is from the seemingly magical bubble, or because he can feel the magic negation, may not be clear.

While he does manage to keep up the bodyguard facade, his teeth are clenched and he is clearly not happy about this development. Again whether it is because of the effect on himself, or the effect on his charge, is not necessarily clear.

A dangerous gleam enters Thorgeisl's eyes at Carbon's comment, but luckily the man walks away in a huff before anything could happen. He follows Hecate in her own, perhaps feigned, huff. He does his best to keep to his role, but it is truly beginning to chafe. Once he hears Oreom's suggestion he cannot help a wolfish grin that breaks open his angry face. The two large men may be of one mind here, and again Thorgeisl chafes at his role. While he played the part of the dutiful if stupid guard Oreom had all the fun.

Still if they could cause a little mayhem on their way out it may have been worth it. Once there are none of Carbon's men around, and conscious, all pretense of stupidity and servile-ness disappear.

He speaks Figuero, "lead the way. We will look into this thing." Glancing toward Oreom he gives another evil grin, his own eyes and teeth sparking flames briefly, "with any luck we will find something truly flammable to vent our frustrations on?"

Thorgeisl is not pleased. The Mind Flayer remains alive. The whole plan has fallen apart. People keep improvising at cross purposes and making things worse. And at least two of the prime suspects keep grumbling about everyone but themselves causing problems.

He played his part, he did a good job. Yes he went underground to investigate the magical aura instead of leaving the building at that time. But that was the closest he has come to doing anything but play his part. And in the process they had learned of the captured Mind Flayer.

Yet they let it live.

Tired of all this, and blamed along with the others for every little setback despite his lack of involvement in any of the problems that cropped up he feels he may as well cause a problem of his own. So he quickly launches a bolt of fire at the hands of the guard holding the device, with any luck the man will drop the device in pain.

Thorgeisl remains dumbfounded by the utter failure in his eyes. The mess it had all devolved into. And so he sits dumbfounded and fuming, it does not help matters when he hears the ludicrous claim that they were mostly successful.

He admits to himself that they may have been better off leaving when Carbon thought they were, yet inspecting the source of the magic to find the Mind Flayer was an important discovery. It would have been better if the Mind Flayer could have been killed, but it was beyond his means. Still things could have possibly been salvaged. Ignoring the girl, Thorgeisl was never clear on why they had brought her, and ignoring strange distractions, Thorgeisl was of the opinion that he and Hecate could have walked out, feigning having gotten lost. Though if Oreom had indeed stolen from his fallen opponent that may not have gone well.

Still Thorgeisl fumes, and has nothing to say. Yes he felt it was a terrible failure, and yes he may have made things worse by attacking one of Carbon's guards. But you don't put a volatile person in that situation and keep lumping him in with others that supposedly caused the current problem with expecting said volatile person to give you a reason for such blame.

Thorgeisl Whose Laughter Stinks of Killing

Day 1:

Thorgeisl fumes most of the first day. He spends it mostly either sitting in place, or pacing back and forth, as little surges of energy light up upon his form. He largely ignores Richard's outrage. When someone points a weapon at him, clearly intending on executing him, he was not about to spare their lives.

Day 2:

By now Thorgeisl has calmed down a bit. He even offers to help Hecate with the cleaning, and upkeep, of the room. Though he does not go around cleaning himself, even the use of his Prestidigitation. Instead he waves his hand and a small form of stone rises from the floor, after a moment's work he begins to speak in an odd gravely language and the small elemental begins to work. He then repeats the process again, waving his hand through the air, and this time the air swirls and takes form. Again he seems to work something out before speaking in another language, this one more airy. And again the small creature begins to work.

Day 3:

And now Thorgeisl is getting rather bored. He still hasn't really begun to interact with the others, and the so called literature was rather beneath him. To relieve himself of said boredom Thorgeisl once more waves his hand, and with a pop a couple surprisingly large Corgis appear, one with golden tinged fur the other with silver.

Throughout the day he casually plays with them, or watches them play among themselves. After awhile he summons a small elemental of flame to clean up any possible messes, assuming celestial dogs ever need to relieve themselves, as well as to provide another source of light.

Day 6:

Again Thorgeisl is growing bored, even summoning various creatures is not helping anymore. The arrival of Richard and then Barnabus. He looks up hoping for something of interest, and while he appreciates getting paid he was hoping to be let out. Well now he can dwell on how to spend his pay, perhaps that will relieve his boredom.

Thorgeisl Whose Laughter Stinks of Killing

The days continue to pass drearily for Thorgeisl, who does not like being cooped up. Toward the end even trying to learn to shoot one of the guns ignites some interest. He wouldn't be particularly interested in it if not for the crushing boredom. At least it was something new to do.

When Richard returns, with at least somewhat positive news, Thorgeisl picks up his warrant. A slight laugh escapes, the image makes him look rather more thuggish than normal. Yet it looks like he was accused of a great deal more than he had done. He listens to Richard's piece, and wants to laugh again but conceals it. He is beginning to see little difference between Richard and Carbon, perhaps Richard was more of an idealist and more upfront about his work with the people in the know, yet less confident and capable sounding than Carbon. Still taking the deal would allow Thorgeisl to travel in search of Mind Flayer remnants, to deal with them, not to mention it would be a great deal more convenient without the government hounding him.

"Very well I will take you up one this."

Thorgeisl is hardly impressed by the payment, but accepts it none the less. Glancing at Lefty's exaggerated overreaction to such a small sum.

He briefly nods to the newcomer. Though he has little use for those who claim to speak to the gods. Still if she can mend wounds she could be of use. For a moment he dwells on Hecate's offer, before putting it aside for now. He doubts she has the ability to craft anything he could make use of, yet. Or at the least anything that he could find of use, and afford with the meager pay they had received.

Still his mood had improved greatly, for soon they shall be free of this cramped room. After a bit of thought he realizes that he should probably should introduce himself to the girl if he expects her to be willing to lend her mending. "I am Thorgeisl." He closes his eyes with a wince before opening them and adding the rest of his title. "Whose Laughter Stinks of Killing."

Thorgeisl Whose Laughter Stinks of Killing

Thorgeisl is hardly impressed their new base of operations either. It is a run down shack of a place and more than a little disappointing, the only thing it has going for it is that it is less cramped than where he had spent the last week.

He takes a look at the shooting range, and thinks about making use of it at some point. Though not exactly in the way Herbert may have intended. Still a little target practice could be a good idea.

For a bit he watches Lefty work up a sweat by trying his best to fix the place up, again in an uncharacteristic show of kindness he summons a couple small earth elementals to help the man out. And a few air elementals to hover nearby and keep the dust from reaching Thorgeisl himself.

Thorgeisl Whose Laughter Stinks of Killing

Well, well, well diplomatic niceties will be required. Thorgeisl could probably do a better job at it than most of these fools, though it is hardly his preference. Nor would he prefer to deal with elves. Still if it gives him the chance to hunt down the flayers, or any remnants of theirs, it could be tolerated.

Hopefully the mission will not fall apart this time, particularly with himself getting summarily included into whatever group an individual had wanted to pin the blame upon. Truly the biggest problem was that the group had scattered with a half-dozen different ideas of how to go about their mission, without bothering to inform the others of their little plans. And the theft. The theft of the mace had apparently triggered some warnings, or displeasure toward the group preventing them from simply walking out in secret.

Not that Thorgeisl could blame Oreom for wanting to vent at the rather constrained nature of their parts in the last mission, by the end Thorgeisl himself had wanted to burn the place down. Though neither Oreom nor Thorgeisl were the ones who had that honor in the end.

Thorgeisl had wisely invested in a magic ring to sate any thirst or hunger, and alleviate most of his need for rest as well. So he saw no need to buy supplies for the journey. He appreciates the offer of a mount, though the summoned steed seemed less pleased with the prospect.

Each day Thorgeisl summons a few, no more than half a dozen, small air elementals to secretly keep an eye out and scout. So he is perhaps the first to learn of the smoke plume. Before that however is the Illitid encampment. The site of it further agitates the summoned horse, as it agitates Thorgeisl. Whirls and swirls on his body light up in various colored energies, smoke rising here and there as he gazes upon the site. Remembering what was done to him, what he had become and what he had done to his people. The name that haunts him.

It takes only a little effort to get him to move away from the site, but he is in a foul mood the rest of the day.

Upon learning that there is an Ogre Band ahead he grows quiet, his eyes shadowed. "Perhaps we should avoid the Band." With everything he has said and done, with his clear inhuman ancestry, it seems odd that he would say this, yet he did.
