No, I understand where you're coming from. I see a lot of stuff that wants to emulate that Tolkein feel of all these details that surface in the main story, but I felt that in LoTR that stuff was easier to understand contextually. Here it's just "What is this? Better crack open the Similarion!" I mean, in context these things work as being alien and mysterious, so not sure why there needs to be a reference like that.
