BRINK had it's problems, almost all of them gameplay related, but god drat if it didn't look fantastic. Whoops I broke my own rule. \/ Sorry, Quake Wars was awesome.

What kind of insane person is going to give Splash Damage money? They've made two garbage games and one decent one that it should now be VERY clear was only decent because it was a mod to someone else's already excellent (and arguably superior) game.

Quake Wars was Rad so they made 2 good games

Same animation assets, same particle effects, same sound effects, same UI, same gameplay elements. The only thing new from Brink is the environmental art style (which is the only fresh thing Brink had going for it) and the insanely crass 320 dollar price model. I'll pass.

I really hope this isn't terrible but asking people to spend $120+ on Alpha access after Brink is kind of insane.

Those preorder / reward tiers look a LOT like the ones from Mechwarrior Online. Copy / pasted, almost. Not necessarily saying that this is a bad thing, I just think it's funny that is even uses the same sort of nomenclature -- Founders, elite, legendary, and you just get Mercs instead of Mechs.

I wouldn't be surprise if all those perks and pre-order items were decided upon due to the same set of analytics outlining what works when it comes to pre-orders/kickstarters.

It's like the same colors and fonts and everything, it looks basically exactly the same. Also yeah anyone who is gonna give splash damage money for this is insane. Personally, I think everyone who bought brink at launch should get in for free so we can tell them not to do the same garbage. Not like we're smart enough to know what a good game is though apparently

The last good class-based shooter was TF2 because it had way more interesting classes than "this guy has a machine gun, this guy has a shotgun, this guy can repair tanks." Honestly, I'm kind of done with class-based shooters in general because teams never have the right composition. It's always seven snipers and two soldiers and no medics. Give me an FPS where I can rely on my own skills instead of my lovely pubbie teammates

That's a totally untapped shooter market and I'm sure a Free 2 Play FPS game will turn out really well and be well-balanced without relying on player purchases and have a lengthy lifespan with a healthy playerbase that sticks around past the first 6 months and content updates on a regular basis that add content for players without forcing them to pay to access it. ...now I'm just depressed about Gotham City Impostors falling off the face of the earth.

Ahhpple posted:Enemy Territory was my favourite class-based shooter of all time so this looks interesting to me. But what was wrong with Brink that so many people are wary about this? Honestly, I think the gameplay mechanics were great. The main thing that made it suck was the horrible level design that made a massive majority of fights happen on 1-2 choke points on the map, which made playing light classes into running through the 1-2 flanking routes the maps had over and over again. It was a far cry from the fast-paced parkour ninja poo poo the game was advertised as being. The other major issue was the horrid post-release support. There was a map with a bug that made it so that it never had sound, making it completely unplayable. This was fixed weeks after release. There were also a few balance niggles that were never even attempted to fix even though a big part of the hype before release was the "e-sport viability" the game was supposed to have. I felt like Splash Damage mugged me of $50 for buying Brink. Brink had serious issues with the weapons. The damage drop off over range was extreme and every weapon hit an intense accuracy cone after 3 shots. You'd do minimal damage to anyone past 15M. The parkour feature was also worthless. $30 gets you one character and nothing else? For a free to play game? Is that a joke? $60 for three characters? $120 for 5 and a tshirt? Every once in a while, I unpack my UT2K4 archive and see if there's anything going on in there. After a couple of matches of 24/7 Rankin, I get sad and put it away again. :[ I'll probably check out this game when it's released. I never played Brink, despite it sitting in my Steam library, but mainly from word-of-mouth as to how bad it was. Is it still somewhat active, or has it abandoned by this point?
