It was pointed out to me that the zip file of mp3s had the two final songs missing, this has now been fixed!! If you only have 10 songs in your mp3 zip file you can either redownload the new one or get the straggler files individually!!

Oh and btw if you want to keep abreast of conelrad news, keep an eye on my twitter and maybe even my tumblr, where i actually post songs in progress from time to time.

Thread posted with mod permission

Hello, some people here may know that I have been producing and releasing electronic music under the name conelrad for several years now. Recently, I worked on a companion soundtrack for SA's very own Zack Parsons' excellent novel Liminal States. Prior to that, I've released the albums Sure is the Risk Made, Function Creep, Five Automatic Landings, and Community Shelter Planning, most or all of which have been really very warmly received by SA and elsewhere. Some compare my musical output to electronic ambient/downtempo/drone artists like Boards of Canada, Stars of the Lid, etc etc, but I also don't really sound like them at all.

Bunker 1 is my first collection of b-sides. "B-sides" is probably not the right term, as I've never released a single--but in recording the several albums and EPs I have released between 2005 and now, I produced a lot more material than could ever fit onto those albums. Because I've always been very keen to keep each album thematically and aurally tight, there have been many, many tracks I have enjoyed, but which have not ended up on any particular album. Bunker 1 is my way of releasing some of those songs. They vary in tone and feel, some have vocals, some don't, and so on.

This is just the first volume of these offcut songs: there will almost certainly be more. I have selected these songs on the basis that they flow well as a standalone album; they are not in any kind of chronological or quality order. And, of course, these songs represent snapshots of various points in my development as a musician and producer, and as such they vary a little in production quality -- but they are all entirely listenable.

Anyway, I hereby release it into the wild. Download, listen, copy, burn, whatever you like. Enjoy It's free!! I give all my music away because I'm stupid. And if you like this, my entire back catalogue is available at the conelrad web site.

edit: Here's a bandcamp link! Mirrors are always good too!!

Here's a mirror! Thanks Gawain!

gently caress yes new Conelrad! I was pretty bummed when in the thread for Five Automatic Landings you said you were taking a break for a while. Thanks for putting some b-sides together, even if it's not "new" work. I hope if you're feeling inspired you do more. Seriously you are one of my two all-time favorite ambient-electronica style artists.

(The other would be Helios/Goldmund, which is funny because I think he's just about the opposite in tone to Conelrad. Warm and emotional vs cool and slightly claustrophobic.)

I had never actually heard of Able Archer until I googled it from Community Shelter Planning. Everybody learns about the Cuban Missile Crisis in school, but they seem to skip the whole "USA nearly ends the world by pranking the Commies" thing.

(The tl;dr of the wikipedia article is that it was a NATO wargame / simulation of the buildup for nuclear war against the Warsaw pact. Though the Soviets knew it was an exercise, it looked real enough that some of them thought it was a double bluff and we really were going to first strike them. It was probably the second or third closest we've come to wiping out humanity.)

Thanks much dude, I'm glad I've been able to find a way to share these tracks. I've always liked them and there's loads more like it, they just need to be "curated" into groups that sound good together, and this takes time (time to select, and time to listen through to the collection over and over to make sure nothing's lovely or jarring).

Yes, it's almost always possible to figure out the references in my song titles I tend to pick references to things I've found interesting or haunting in some way. Sometimes that's not possible though as occasionally i struggle to find something that fits and end up filling with any old poo poo ("Seven")

Yeah, I'll probably get this up on spotify eventually, though it costs me money to put albums on spotify, and as I don't charge for my music, it tends to be something I hold back on to start with until I think a new release been decently-received and people will listen to it there. So far so good

Yeah, the easiest way to get stuff on spotify etc is to use a service like http://www.recordunion.com who get your music on itunes, spotify, amazonmp3 etc etc. It's not hugely expensive but it is a little annoying, and i think i've made (literally) 28 cents from plays on spotify etc so it feels dumb!!
