a lot of that map is pretty much population-density.jpg

I think the Texas Panhandle is actually better than their population density would suggest.

I'm more concerned about West Virginia - why in the world are they writing about giraffes enough that it's commonly checked?

In the grey states it usually just gets prosecuted as animal abuse without specifically being called out. Also tons of states didn't have any explicit acknowledgement of it in law until fairly recently, on the basic idea that "ew gross why would we need a law".

The title also seems a bit unfair. Those people haven't made a spelling mistake yet. In fact, they're googling a word specifically to avoid making a spelling mistake. Which is good, and laudable.

Searching for how to spell "gray" in Michigan makes a lot of sense, being so close to Canada a lot of product packing uses Commonwealth spelling so people are used to seeing both forms and understandably hesitate when writing. Growing up I thought that "theater" meant a cinema and "theatre" meant a playhouse.

I do like people looking up the spelling of their own state (or, perhaps, the state they're visiting).

That and leprechaun in Arkansas. Is there more Irish there than I'd expect?

I'm confused. Is Nevada the state where "cousin" is a verb?

It seems they're mainly descendants of fishermen from the Azores who came over in the 19th century.
