The title also seems a bit unfair. Those people haven't made a spelling mistake yet. In fact, they're googling a word specifically to avoid making a spelling mistake. Which is good, and laudable.

Searching for how to spell "gray" in Michigan makes a lot of sense, being so close to Canada a lot of product packing uses Commonwealth spelling so people are used to seeing both forms and understandably hesitate when writing. Growing up I thought that "theater" meant a cinema and "theatre" meant a playhouse.
