We always spam poo poo about our favorite videogame songs we like to rock to and then feel embarrassed about later, but what about the ones that we just feel embarrassed about period? The ones that are just horribly grating and make you cry such huge tears in front of your TV that you die repeatedly to the boss because your vision is clouded and your morale crushed? Dragon's Dogma Main Menu Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0CxIJBHBVQ This won my "Press the load game button as fast as possible" award last year. Oblivion's Limp Dick Brawl Tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GOh8JjFP08 It sounds like Jeremy Soule just gave up and everyone in the orchestra is just half-assedly playing their instruments as morosely as possible. The repetitive strings made this shoot up pretty high on my list of music that pisses me off to no end. Persona 1 PSP Attempted English Gibberish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rfltiuas1iw This plays almost EVERY battle, imagine that poo poo for EVERY random encounter, now remember how numerous random encounters in Persona are. Puncture your eardrums before playing. Please give me some more examples for our shared misery.

The original Resident Evil had a pretty dope soundtrack. It definitely did a good job of setting the mood / putting you on edge. Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All-Stars had decent intro music, but had specialized themes for all the cities and countries. The country themes might have been national anthem rip-offs; I can't be prodded into firing up the cart. YouTube only has the Detroit theme. The music is a good bit of why I was always a bit embarrassed to play this. The first Back to the Future game on NES featured this abomination of a cover of Johnny B. Goode.

It sounds a lot like Magma, but a lot of Japanese games have odd prog-rock inspired soundtracks since so many musicians for videogames over there are prog fans.

Kind of reminds me Drakengard, in a way. Speaking of Drakengard, I don't know if it really belongs here. Most people consider the soundtrack ear surprise sex (it's basically a bunch of classical music played and cut together, four at once in one song), but I love it. EDIT: Also, I normally love Crush 40 butt rock, but Shadow's soundtrack went way too far into the "butt" part for my taste. I love the opening theme for Rad Gravity. It sounds like the music was deliberately written to sound like when your cartridge gets jostled and everything becomes corrupted and otherworldly without actually crashing. The bass seems to be playing a different song entirely, the lead instrument's PITCH shoots UP on the end of every note, instead of the volume shooting down. It makes the thing sound like it's being played by doing that thing where you tug the end of an open balloon. Edit: The game itself is also awesomely bizarre. You play as super-manly man-chinned Rad Gravity, dashing through the streets stabbing bearded men in flying trash cans and George Carlins. DDR has a lot of dance remixes of classical music that range from pretty decent to so incredibly annoying that I can't even bring myself to play them. Hydlide is an early action RPG that is considered a classic in Japan and a crap game everywhere else. The music that plays throughout the entirety of the NES version is this ripoff of the Indiana Jones theme. It could have been worse, though—in the original version it's a ripoff of Pop Goes the Weasel. The Mega Man games generally have great soundtracks, but they slipped up every now and then. Ring Man's stage theme from Mega Man 4 is probably the worst offender. It's like they weren't even trying. My all-time favorite has to be this track from Ironsword: Wizards & Warriors 2. If you don't think it's that bad, consider that this plays during the atrociously difficult final boss fight and nowhere else in the entire game. JebanyPedal posted:It sounds a lot like Magma, but a lot of Japanese games have odd prog-rock inspired soundtracks since so many musicians for videogames over there are prog fans. Motoi Sakuraba (composer for Dark Souls, the Star Ocean series, and a zillion other games you've probably played) was the composer and keyboardist for '80s prog rock band Deja Vu before he started doing game soundtracks. I love Uninvited and the other ICOM adventure games (as my avatar shows). Most of the music is cool and Shadowgate's soundtrack is especially awesome. The character select screen music from Marvel vs Capcom 2 sits firmly in the "so bad it's good" territory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPjjnfGKrPc However, character selection usually doesn't take that long, so it's not like you keep hearing this all the time. Traverse Town from Kingdom Hearts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-qU2tKMrUQ Not such a bad song at first. It's mellow, its catchy, relaxing. However Traverse Town is basically your home base for the vast majority of the game since it has all the shops and gummi parts and other game devices. So you end up listening to this repetitive slow jazz for hours on end till you want to break your TV.

In Japan back in the 1980's there was a band that was a KISS knock off. They wore the face paint, dressed the same, and had music that generally sounded the same. This band got a Famicom game based on them created, the most heavy metal game ever designed for an 8-bit system. Now for this game they'd have to put in some of the band's music as the sound track. This is what came out: Seikima 2 Holistic Detective posted:Blue Dragon was a pretty forgettable game overall, but one thing continues to stick in the mind: This is the other one that comes to mind immediately. Content: I stopped playing WoW, but the first 25 seconds of this particular piece for a zone got on my nerves when I played. It tries to have this ~epic discovery~ feeling but it doesn't work since it plays every time you go there. The rest after that is okay.
