MagnumOpus posted:I have been hearing that post-patch PS2 is pulling roughly 2x the amount of data down. I suspect this is a result of the increased render distance we're seeing (i.e. more/larger netcode frames). Possible source of the lag issues. Looks like this may very well be true, previously being in or around large fights my download speed for PS2 would cap out around 50 KB/s then float around 20-25, I just suicide bombed into the Crown as a fight was happening and it easily peaked 80 KB/s and is now around 35-40. These numbers may seem small or insignificant but they really make a world of difference. An Unoriginal Name fucked around with this message at Feb 3, 2013 around 20:41 |

Giggily posted:Alright, I've done some testing just now with my useroptions.ini, and it looks like the settings Crush Boss posted work pretty great now. I did a bit of tweaking, but I'm now averaging 60 FPS in empty areas (I have my FPS limited to this, and am seeing screen tearing for the first time in PS2), and about 30-60 in medium to large scale fights. I'm sure Biolabs will still bring my computer to its knees. I used this exactly pasted into mine and my performance seemed to increase, at least for a bit. After a bit of fighting, or as the hex population increased I got the same issues as fresh deleted ini: people warping, nothing I fire registering, seeming to warp around/running into buildings and still getting shot but having no health and living for an extra 5-10 seconds in a group of enemies, etc. It doesn't seem like my FPS is dropping too much, it is some bizarre stuttering/semi-lag or something. I had none of these problems pre-patch even on my ancient PC: 1600x900 res Phenom II X4 3.2ghz Radeon HD5750 (1GB) 8GB RAM I know it isn't my connection, as every other game runs great and I'm pinging 15ms to SolTech. Guess I'll wait until SOE does something? Maybe something will be in this "nothing fires" patches. I do like seeing shitloads of assault sunderers though.

So they improved it in situations where it was already good, but not when it actually needs it.

It seems like using vehicles makes the game go nuts with micro stutters and lag. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon, I can see some potential in the FPS I get in between stutters.

It would be amazing if they would just split off a couple more threads to take better advantage of my oct-core and those jerks with the hex-core+hex-virtual i7s.

Should I get any upgrades for the standard LMG or buy another one straight off the bat, and if so, which one? Are you on Mattherson or Miller? Anyway, the standard gun is really good, you really don't have to upgrade. If you get bored with it the SV-88 is really good and some people love the Lasher. Upgrade your scope first, that really helps a lot. And you should consider to spend a few certs on engineer and medic, upgrade the tools a bit and get AT mines for the engi, they are incredibly useful when you really need to kill a tank/sunderer.

If you're certing both the Medic and Engy, put 500 certs into the medigun first. Lv5 medikit vs Lv4 medigun is light NIGHT and DAY, whereas Lv5 vs Lv4 engy tool is kind of meh. edit: Or lv6 or whatever. I'm specifically talking about the highest-certed Medigun and Engy tool.

Seconding this. I've maxed out the repair tool when I started playing VS/Jaegar. Maxed out NC/Math for meditool. Think of the meditool maximum as an investment. It prints certs. It will always have a use. You revive people with full health, MAXes with 20%, and the revive takes barely over 1 second. It has .5 meter effect/level, too if not mistaken.(?) The repair tool is lackluster because while some of the upgrades DO increase repair rate, the majority of them only appear to increase the overheat threshold of the tool, which is nice if you're in a controlled situation but more often than not you're getting pelted by ESF rockets and need it repaired faster. It does, however, boost the range of the tool by .5 meters, so a few levels into it definitely don't hurt to have and your MAX buddies will love you, and lament your death with repeated jumps, screaming for a medic.

Yeah it definitely has its use so if you're looking for something to spend 500 certs on then the engy tool probably isn't a BAD investment or anything, but I wish I had put those last 500 into an extended ammo pack instead or something. My Connery/TR has lv 3 or lv 4 engy tool and I've never really felt limited by it.

Martytoof posted:edit: Or lv6 or whatever. I'm specifically talking about the highest-certed Medigun and Engy tool. The repair tool really seams like a raw deal after the medi gun. It really needs some kind of additional effect that can be certed up, rather than just letting you stand around for longer holding M1 instead of standing around not holding M1. Maybe if it gave a little residual repair over time, or a short term super minor armor buff. Of course since they already had a bug where they continue to repair forever I doubt anyone at soe could get this to work.

The medic probably gets you the best return on certs in terms of usefulness and cert generation out of all classes. A decked out medic with smoke, C4, maxed out heals/revives and revive grenades is the most versatile class in the game. You're equipped to deal with practically anything and you're also an unholy necromancer with a 4-pubbie thick wall of armor around you. You keep infantry fights going way, way longer than they should and you're also one of the best killers on the battlefield. As long as there's ammo. I have pushed entire platoons of pubbies into shitfights like TI Alloys just by firing smoke over their heads to block the spawn room blob's line of sight, screaming at them to move forward before the smoke is gone, and then reviving all of the dead pubbies at once with revive grenades so they could keep the pressure up. Level your medic, kids.

If you stand in firefights a lot, ammo kit for Engy also prints certs. Throw it down next to a few maxes on a tower platform and watch the +11 roll in for the next two minutes. This tends to happen even if there are already ammo packs down. Basically just throw ammo packs anywhere you see the bullet icon OR where there are two or more players standing around and you'll have more certs shortly than you started out with. Biolab fights and towers are a license to print certs with ammo packs.

If they're uncerted scrublord medics, stay medic and steal their revives with your awesome medgun so they give up and change classes to something which is more useful. Also, level the ability slot quickly. It's dirt cheap and gives you a better, renewable version of resto kits for a fraction of the cost. Even if you never heal anybody with it, it's keeping you alive while you're doing Papa Vanu's work.
