(Derrike Cope may not actually be in the new year.)![]() Hello again, everyone. It’s 2013, and the NASCAR season is about to start anew. Last year we had an absolute garbage season punctuated with a few sweet spots, namely the Jet Dryer Massacre at the Daytona 500, Ambrose/Keselowski at the Glen II, and the continued reign of Not Jimmie Johnson as champion of the Sprint Cup Series. Instead, we have this man. Things are looking bright for the future, however. With 2013 comes the Gen-6 Car, which many are hoping will bring an improvement to the racing quality, which was at a definite low in 2012. The cars are also sexy as hell, and bring back different makes actually having aesthetic differences! This will probably not affect the market as much as it did in the past, but it’s a nice touch. I’m hoping we’ll attract some new fans of the sport this year, so I’ll try to be as informative as I can in this OP. If you are new to NASCAR, or auto racing as a whole, feel free to ask any questions you may have in the thread, we love new faces . Here’s the basic rundown:NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (Schedule) NASCAR’s premiere series is the Sprint Cup. This is the big leagues. Sprint Cup is host to 36 races and the biggest events on the schedule, such as the Daytona 500. Sprint Cup is also the land of the Chase for the Cup, a total crap idea of a championship system that doesn’t have any place in auto racing ever god drat it NASCAR. The Top 10 drivers in points after 26 races earn a Chase spot, and the drivers with the most wins outside the top 10 (but within the top 20) will get the last 2 berths. The points are then reset by most wins, and the top 12 have at it until the season ends. NASCAR Nationwide Series (Schedule) The Nationwide Series (formerly the Busch Series) is NASCAR’s secondary series, where most Cup drivers pass through before they make full-time rounds in the big show. Nationwide is home to upcoming rookies, washed-up old-timers, and Cup drivers with nothing better to do on Saturday (who will invariably win most of the races). Fortunately, this year is looking to be different, with a talented crop of young drivers running the series full-time in search of a championsh- what? Kyle Busch is running most of the races? Never mind, then. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (Schedule) The Truck Series is essentially a step down from Nationwide. They race trucks! It’s pretty swell. The racing also tends to be better than the Cup races on any given week (link Gale/Busch). Much like Nationwide, there will be plenty of Cup drivers bullying their way in to pick up wins, but less so here, but there will also be plenty of young drivers here too looking for a championship to kickstart their career. ARCA Racing Series (Schedule) ARCA is not a NASCAR series, but many drivers will pass through on their path of progression. However, given ARCA’s minor-minor-minor league status, the drivers tend to be... not as talented. This is especially evident at big tracks like Daytona (link wrecks). We’ll tune in here every now and then. Driver Listings: I farmed out these bios to the thread posters because I wasn't writing all that poo poo! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New Thread Policies (IMPORTANT)![]() This past offseason thread was pretty bad, guys. Dumb poo poo like jokes about shipping drivers (and the awful, awful fanfics that aren’t even ironic anymore) is really not what this thread is for. This is a discussion thread. Let’s keep all off-topic stuff to either the relevant threads, or, if you must talk about fanfics or Ricky porking Danica, take it to the IRC room (more info below). It’s always there and open for use, no need to restrict it to raceday chat! I would suggest hanging out in IRC more often to chat with your fellow SASCAR goons so this thread doesn’t get cluttered up with poo poo. Use some common sense. Don’t make me ask the mods to clean the thread up if it gets that bad again, I really don’t want to. I missed selecting the mak logos when moving poo poo around. Also if you wrote a thing up and I didn't use it it's probably because it was not very informative, or I just didn't think it worked. My secret weakness, when I was discussing that in the locker room and that cameraman was there I didn't think they'd broadcast it!!! Ugggh....leica in 2006 posted:No. But if she does anyway, she better start a few seasons in Busch or Trucks first. If she goes straight to Cup, she will fail miserably. It would also help if she could win some races in the loving series she's already in.
