A new academic year is fast approaching and while poor students are moving into their broken down flats and apartments, poster manufacturers are making a killing. Whether it be to express your god awful taste in music, your dumb uneducated political beliefs or maybe just to hide the hole created when your best friend tried to bottle you one drunken evening, everyone needs poo poo to chuck on their walls. As for my poster of choice throughout my University career, this one's always been a personal favourite: ![]() Like many people I'm moving into a new place this year and I'm looking to retire my numerous Che Guevara, Katy Perry and puppy dog posters and try something new. So have at it folks, let's share decoration ideas and try to make the world of student housing a little less goony! What this thread is for:

You should just remove the poster and scrawl, "I AM A RED FLAG PARADING AS A HUMAN BEING" in marker on your wall, it sends the same message. I have this: poster on my wall, it's pretty snazzy and I really like the Gorillaz.

I'll bite. The Good Will by my house is a goddamn goldmine, and has enabled my questionable taste for several years now. Thrift stores are where it's at, especially if you're just starting out.![]() Framed blueprints of Star Wars vehicles. ![]() Giant framed poster of Cyclops being choked by something tentacled. ![]() Tin star, wooden Thai dagger things, and a print of dapper bird men I bought from Comic Con a few years back. ![]() Praying hands tambourine. This was a gift, actually. ![]() Very shiny rendition of a 1626 map of the world, and a print of "The Seizure of the English Frigate Starthope" by Cortellini. ![]() Print of a very grumpy Quaker gentleman. ![]() The wall behind my bed. Vintage silk scarves and other pretty things. ![]() Color plates scissored out of an old anatomy textbook, with various cheap frames. ![]() Indian (?) poster illustrating Bad Habits. I've gotten way too much amusement out of this. ![]() And last but certainly not least is this dapper fellow, who hangs at about head height beside my toilet. He has startled and enthralled many visitors.

Disco Godfather posted:Is this next to your Scarface poster? It's funny you should say that. I seem to recall reading something about certain posters/works of art you should never hang on your walls. I can't recall if it was an internet article or something I read on SA. I say you should hang up whatever the hell you want. Anyway, I have a Blade Runner movie poster and Edward Hopper's Nighthawks on my walls.

One day you'll wake up and you'll be forty. You'll regret all the time you spent drinking cheap beer, listening to bad music and doing weird drugs. You'll grow up. Maybe you'll buy a cardigan. You'll realize that dudes getting hit in the balls just isn't that funny to you. You want a comedy with some substance. You want a smart comedy. Then you hang this bad boy up. ![]() Congratulations, you're an adult now.

Did someone say horrible posters I have in college? I've been looking for ways to make the cottage-cheese-texture institutional walls in my room look like home for two years now. Mostly it's dorky movie posters (Foxy Brown, Trollhunter, etc) though I've managed to avoid the Tarantino/James Dean/Boondock Saints trap my freshman year roommate fell into. I might actually keep these two things post-college though:![]() ![]() I got them both in Brazil. The orange one is being used as a curtain because when my house flooded over the summer the dudes fixing my room somehow managed to lose a set of blinds and gave me a shittier set instead. The picture of the sun one has been taken at a weird angle because it's hanging above my dresser and I'm embarrassed by the massive heap of laundry and feminine products sitting right under it. I've also kind of got a thing for the Who. ![]() (Ticket to the Who show in Oakland last week below, Papilio blumei and Salvador Bonfim wish ribbons to the right). Not shown: The Kids Are Alright poster (the documentary, not the Julianne Moore movie); Pete Townshend's Empty Glass record (Jesus Townshend side facing outwards); Keith Moon on a polar bear rug pinup. I'm set to graduate and my decorations are pretty trapped in freshman year. Figuring out how to fix that. Getting frames for some of the posters might boost me all the way up to grad student

When my husband and I were still dating and I was in mortuary school I asked him to get me this poster for my birthday:![]() The website had their posters so cheap he ended up buying me three more random ones that I hung above my mantle/library. To the left is a collection of original art work I've gotten from friends (we're clearly still moving things around so they're all wonky) and to the right is an original promotional Oingo Boingo poster from the mid 80s and Van Gogh's Cafe Terrace At Night. ![]() I wish I could find a larger picture but I couldn't. One of my prize possessions is my 2008 Bumbershoot poster. Probably one of the best weekends of my life. I love Seattle (but I live in Dallas) and a friend of mine in Tacoma let me come stay with her for a week so I could go. I've wanted to go back but since that time money's been a little tight (school, marriage, etc.) ![]() Other than that I have several black and white photographs of lighthouses around Massachusetts that my mother took and had framed for me and some original Japanese Ghibli posters. I feel like I just shared my whole life in one post but when I was with my ex I lived in a double master condo where his Nightmare Before Christmas collection covered every surface. It was a nice collection but after six years of barely being able to make a dent with personal items I made it a mission when I got my own place to just express myself on every surface. I totally encourage anyone to do the same, never take a blank wall for granted.

I have two rules. One: Nothing goes on the wall without a frame. Two: No nerd posters that are clearly nerd posters. Find nerd posters that don't look like nerd posters. Here's an example. (Print on color paper and a cheap frame from Walmart will do.) ![]() It's from Star Trek! http://bid.profilesinhistory.com/Br...art-1_i10500194 More nerdy, but for a Dune fan it beats having a giant sandworm on the bathroom wall: ![]() ![]()

This Steve Jobs mini-poster is one of my favorites since it's unique and I made it myself about 10 years ago. I printed out a hi-res Associated Press image on two pieces of letter size paper, and very carefully taped them together. I put sheet protectors on the outside to keep it nice. Steve Jobs was a jerk, but he was so dreamy And I also have a Fonz poster. I like Happy Days but I'm not a huge fan-- I just wanted a Fonz poster. It's a 70s original, too.
