Inspired by this thread from the archives. I'm pretty sure most of you know people who try to make art for a living. Sometimes, they're really awesome and worth giving accolades. And sometimes, they're not. You might not want to give out names, unless you want people to find out you think their art sucks. Most of all, make it interesting. There's this one dude I know who always does these really strange life drawings. Not really strange in what they depict. They're the kind of stuff you'd expect to see from an art student. So what makes this worth posting about? This dude has the most pretentious titles for them all. (thumbnailed for drawings from nude models) ![]() "An incredible encounter" ![]() "Las mademoiselles" I've seen him name pieces stuff like "The sexy soft sensitive touch" or "Tequila sunrise". And they're all drawings of the typical models you'd get in a life drawing class. I just don't know.

This eccentric southern friend of mine has started doing some very personal and provocative large-scale paintings:![]() ![]() Supposedly a serious choking incident a few years ago gave him the ability to see colors beyond the visible spectrum.

Ask them if they think being as pretentious as they are is appropriate for someone who can't draw human hands, and apparently doesn't want to try.

Well, since this thread is already headed for poop town, I might as well plug my friend Noah Zark. His work is a blend of graffiti and portraiture, and I've always liked it. His current project is to create and distribute 1000 pieces of free art in the Tel Aviv area, which is why you might see a lot of small, somewhat crude pieces on his page. He also has a lot of larger works that are a bit more involved, but he lost a few recently to mold. drat shame. His work is whimsical and a little grotesque. His webpage seems to be down, so all I have is Facebook for now, sorry : https://www.facebook.com/pages/Noah...145190402199987 Edit: Here's Noah's stuff more: http://zarkbazaar.wordpress.com/ My other favorite personally known artist is Sarah Atlee, who lives in Norman, Oklahoma. Her work is also a lot of portraiture, but she has a bursting, vibrant, colorful style. Her website requires pop-ups to see some pictures. http://sarahatlee.com/ Tujague fucked around with this message at Feb 9, 2013 around 21:34 |
