I didn't even think about the porn thing. Even if this piece of poo poo gets a small install base the media backlash that this is sold to kids in major retailers would be a spectacle at the least. The potential of ouya is so vast I can't wait for it to be released.

I'm glad we could come to an amicable agreement. I actually am happy the Ouya team is doing some curation. It will bring the quality standards higher than the levels achieved with XBLIG! This can only be a great thing. Fun Ouya! Fact: curation is usually associated with works of art!

My friend is so convinced the OUYA will be a mainstream success he wants to bet on it. He proposed the system would sell 10 million by the end of 2014. Since it won't make it that far I'm tempted just to say they will stop production by then. What hard terms would you guys suggest?

You guys should shift your expectations over a bit. Getting accepted from the sandbox to the ouya store is really closer to being allowed behind the closed gates of XBLIG. If Julie and other indie devs want to bring back the 1983 videogame crash we can at least have an appropriate perspective here.

raditts posted:Hahaha, what? All you need to get past the "closed gates of XBLIG" is a hundred dollar bill. I mean seriously, how can you look at some of the poo poo on there at any give time and believe that there's any significant gatekeeping there? I feel like there's a joke sailing above my head here. Getting accepted into the ouya store brings as much exposure and recognition as paying $100 if not less. I'm saying that if you're a developer hoping to get hand picked it would be way faster, easier, and profitable to pay the $100. Getting hand picked does give you more exposure but by that logic I found a dime the other day and am now RICH. XBLIG and Ouya are the bottom of the barrel. The sandbox is what lies under that barrel. XBLIG is bad but not ouya sandbox bad, both as far as content and usefulness to the developer.

XboxPants posted:I'd understand where you were coming from if they showed some awesome footage or something, but they were showing Wizorb and Saturday Morning RPG and other simple pixel art games like that. I guess there's The Ball, but that game isn't so graphically crazy that modern mobile chipsets couldn't handle it. The problem here is that EA advertises poo poo like "Need for Speed Most Wanted" and never makes any clarifications if it's the awful mobile one or the game that is the same across 360/ps3/pc/vita? Since the OUYA is a cell phone when it wants to be and a big boy tv console when it wants to be there is no loving way to tell other than these trailers, which often are just flashy enough to trick impulse buyers but don't show what the actual game is. Showing footage of the game that isn't even running on that hardware, and may not even be representative of the final product in the slightest, is gross. VVV Ouya's scalers can't handle that duke crotch zoom. Sorry to wake you up indie dreamers! VVV Liquid Penguins fucked around with this message at 21:23 on Mar 29, 2013 |

het posted:It was explicitly part of the reward, they were paying specifically for that. Why would they be pissed? Also as the other guy pointed out, it's $10k; if you casually throw $10k around, let me know and I'll set up a Kickstarter where I promise to never put your name on anything. Think about who paid for that. They're the same people that donate 10k to every indie bundle. Don't think I'm saying normal people do this, I'm saying the people who actually did it probably didn't put much thought into it. I would be mad if my name was imprinted on an awful product. They probably payed way before anyone definitively knew how this thing would turn out. If you want to take this and interpret it as me having a poor sense of money, go for it. Ouya felt confident enough to let their product review embargo lapse (which I'm assuming existed due to the phrasing used by journos on twitter) but that still isn't good enough for these people. The ouya will never be a failure because it will never be done.
