Apologies if this has been done before. Were you a kid with a computer in 1995? Did you like to try to do creative things with it? Well then, you might remember McZee.  McZee was a pretty cool dude. He was the host of 3D Movie Maker by Microsoft, part of their Microsoft Kids range.  3D Movie Maker was, uh, a tool that allowed you to make 3d movies. It came with a bunch of pre-fabricated backgrounds, several characters, a few props, some sound and some music. It was easy to create something terrible, and incredibly intricate and difficult to make something that was slightly below mediocre. Why? Well, this was the interface.  Hrm, maybe that's not quite a good enough way to illustrate just how cumbersome the interface was for doing anything that required fine tuning. In this forum you can witness what appear to be advanced computer users from the year 2013 wrestling with operating 3DMM on a virtual machine, porting models and textures into it (including from Quake source files), complaining about the texture quality that is being used by newcomers, touting their newly modeled lightsabers, asking how to get 3DMM working on an Android phone, and, well, making movies. But this is the one that's nagging me the most, and I'd appreciate any help that GBS can offer. What is "the 3dmm dvd scandal" referred to in this thread? If you don't know the answer, that's okay. I hope you won't feel like this thread was a waste of your time. Maybe instead you could go find a recent 3DMM release and share it with the rest of us. Wow I remember trying to make a bunch of violent movies on this thing when I was about 9. It was so hard to do anything with it everything was about 10 seconds long and ended in a large "explosion". I wish I was as talented as the flight 93 guy

I had the Nickelodeon version. I don't think I ever figured out to make limbs move so everyone just teleported everywhere with their limbs splayed out

Awww yeah, this came in a bundle of random nonsense that came with my computer, including Encarta. I wish I could remember what I did with it but it was surely nothing interesting.

Holy poo poo. My friend and I dorked around on this in 95-96 and then we promptly forgot about it. I didn't know it was still around, let alone an ACTIVE community making something like that Flight 93 one. When loving Johnny 5 appears I about lost it.

I loved this game, we got it with our very first family PC. I used to make kung-fu movies with it, using the Chuck Norris lookalike character as the star. My brother also used this game to recreate the twin tower attacks days after they happened, complete with characters jumping from the buildings. McZee was loving annoying though, I can't remember under what circumstances, but his voice used to appear loudly at one point while you were busy creating poo poo, I think it was when you hovered the mouse pointer over a certain button.

Oh god. There is a 2D version, just "Movie Maker". It had a fill-in-the-blank line generator. The gibberish that came out of that thing was... I don't even. And then we would set it to the singing voice.

He specifically based his final project around exactly what he learned in the class and exactly what the teacher expected of him in the project. He did everything that was asked for the video and got an A with Colin's Bear. He was very upset.

When I was growing up I didn't have all that 3D Movie Maker nonsense. But what we did have was Theatrix's Hollywood. It wasn't 3D, but it was good enough for me.

I must have sunk 200 hours into this wonderful game as a kid. The demo came on a Windows 95 demo disc, which also had the Weezer Buddy Holly music video, for some reason. Does anyone remember the lesser-known variant Nickeloden 3D Movie Maker? Same thing, just with Nick characters. Really unfortunate that a similar game, updated game wasn't released in later years.
