{Thread posted with mod approval. Thanks!) Hi everybody! We're Graveborn, a death metal act out of Boston. We're a five piece, but two of us are goons who've been hanging out on these forums for quite a while. We recently wrote a 4 track EP, and since the Musician's Lounge seemed to dig it, we thought some of the folks in here who like their metal growly would too. {fair warning to all: if you don't like music where dudes are yellin' a whole bunch, you probably won't like us!) ![]() Where can I hear this devil music? We love bandcamp, since it gives us stats about our album without having to pay up front! You can also get our EP for free from there: http://gravebornma.bandcamp.com/album/a-vile-genesis Although giving us a dollar would be cool, since.... That art looks like you threw it together in a day, haha Well, if you're so smart, how about you draw something for us? We'll probably even give you MONEY for your hard work! This is so brutal I ate my own balls. Where else can I get stuff from y'all? We got a facebook: http://www.facebook.com/gravebornma where you can yak at us. We yell a lot but we're mostly friendly. We worked real hard on this material, and we've got a live band that's gonna be playing shows in New England pretty soon. Any feedback would be massively helpful and appreciated, since we are in the midst of writing our full-length. (and saving up for better art assets). Thanks for listening, goons!

![]() Thank you, downloading! I love good angry-yelling-about-stuff-I-can't-understand-because-yelling music. In all seriousness, you are good in my book, no headaches or instant repulsion when listening to this. Also, is that an abstract goat in the album art? Haha, I would like to help with something but I'm getting buried with homework at the uni, let's wait for another goon to step in.

I thought it was a goat/ram as well, but upon further inspection it looks like it might be a candle flame, perhaps?

I'm 30 seconds into the first track and I can already tell I'm going to like this a lot. You guys are great. If you ever make your way out to Cleveland or Columbus, I'll be there.

Every dollar we get is going to be put toward nice physical copies of the EP/shirt designs + production for shows. People who gave us cash for the digital copy are definitely priority for receiving a physical copies when we make 'em!

Hey I don't hate this. I don't listen to a ton of metal anymore these days but I'll probably give this a couple spins and toss it around. Good stuff goons.

Vocalist here, glad you guys are enjoying the tracks. Mad props goes out to SeraphSlaughter, dude wrote and recorded all the songs. I just contributed a riff or two here and there and recorded some growls, but he's the one who put in the large majority of work. Really looking forward to writing and recording some more stuff soon, we've already got a couple of tracks in the works!

Good stuff, a little too core for my tastes but it's still drat good. You'll rattle some goddamn heads live, I'm going to take a listen to the rest of the EP tonight.

carnassials posted:You forgot the -core after death. We are most definitely some type of -core band, but I feel like subgenres are so nebulous that just saying "death metal" is a little simpler, rather than something like "technical/blackened death metal(core)", as one blog called us. That's a slash AND pharentheses. TheIllestVillain posted:You guys kinda sound like Skepsis era Through the Eyes of the Dead. A top 10 album for me, so no doubt!

I don't listen to metal much these days but I used to listen to a lot (black, thrash, crust punk, some grind, etc). Never was into death too much but you guys have enough black metal influence that I liked this EP. Keep it up. Unsolicited constructive criticism: The drums do have that artificial drum machine-gun sound at points. Not sure what you're using to sequence them, but look into using round robin samples if you aren't. Anaal Nathrakh use a drum machine on their albums and they do a really good job of making it sound natural, so it's definitely doable.

Thanks guys! I wrote/recorded this before I had a live drummer, so I had to go with the drum machine route. Luckily, I found someone that goes faster than the tempos I recorded these in, somehow Omnikin posted:This just made it to my gym playlist and now I'll patiently wait a full-length. And your criticism is solicited! Any comments we can get can only help us sharpen our sound. Some goons in the Musician's Lounge had some nice constructive criticism that definitely effected how I'm going to have the full length album mixed. So thanks for listening! drat, those are some sickass riffs. I had to play Infernal Ascendance over a few times to get that drat riff out of my head. Definitely gonna by your stuff, It's great to see a good local metal band. Oh, and If you ever need a vocalist in a pinch, you should totally drop me a line.

As has been mentioned, it is a bit core-y which isn't really my thing. But i do kind of like it. Maybe its because your vocalist doesn't sound like a 15 year old scene kid, even though I'm not a fan of all the stuff he does. Also my first reaction was that your sound is a bit dry and you could have had more low end, but I might just be going deaf from trying to fix a track. Edit: Probably going deaf... and this is really growing on me. Good job. Nuclear Fetus fucked around with this message at Feb 12, 2013 around 05:07 |

I'm not a huge fan on how the vocals are mixed as it sounds like the producer just layered a lot of my vocals together way too much, but I'm trying my hardest. My voice has been getting better due to the constant practicing, so hopefully by the time of the full length they should sound and be recorded way better.

This loving rocks. I agree though that the growl and the shrieks are are layered over each other sometimes in a weird way. You should have a talk with your producer, or scream at him until he pisses his pants.

Wow guys, thanks so much! Even those of you who aren't enjoying it are actually being nice, I thought goons were supposed to be meaner . Thanks for all the listens and comments so far, it only reinforces our will to work harder on our newer stuff! The comments on the vocal production I'm finding to be correct as well - TheDarkWind's voice has been steadily getting better (even though it was great to start with), and I find he doesn't really need as much layering as there was. Oh well, lessons learned for future releases!

Please name your actual album "we made some music about liches. hail satan." because that is the best title for a metal album. I feel like a muddier mix (black metal cassette tapes lol) might alleviate some of the tinniness on the drum, but that may not be a road you want to go down.

We're a pretty new band, we only finally added a drummer to our lineup about a month ago. I think that sometime by the end of this month or the middle of next we'll have our 4 songs down and will be ready to play live shows. We'll probably be hitting up a lot of those areas, as you mentioned. We're also friends with a couple of local metal acts like Pathogenic, Your Pain is Endearing, and Suffer the Destroyer so you can expect that we'll be playing shows with them as well.

And yeah, I distributed the EP to iTunes, Spotify, Amazon MP3 and a few other places with CDBaby. It cost a little bit, so on those services I think I set it to $.99 a song, just so people would be more inclined to get it from the bandcamp for free!
