So from what I've learnt about America, half of these students will grow up to repent their stupid views, gain some common sense and accept gay people for who they are. The other half will be doomed to occupy Hover-Rascals. Am I close here?

Except for that stipulation explicitly stating you can enslave your neighbors, of course. I guess you're just supposed to love your slaves, which brings the Bible's definition of the word love into question. I became an atheist instead of a theist because I was a kid who actually really loved reading and when they handed me a bible; I kept it to myself but always thought it was really hosed up! (that people give this tome to children) They would complain about me reading Stephen King or whatever in church and I would think, poo poo- none of you even read this fucker huh? Their big thing was that fiction was distracting me from The Truth and it was this diversion by the devil, but ironically the fiction was always more morally sound. The number one issue I have with the line of thinking these people use is that not everyone on this loving planet follows the same religion. Just because your religion says being gay is wrong does not mean other people must suffer for what they don't believe in. It's sick and it's pathetic to expect everyone else to adhere to your own personal standards. The fact that they violate their own moral values of loving their fellow individuals is what really takes the cake home. If you want to hate on gays because that's your religious or moral belief, then fine. But do so very, very quietly, because the rest of us with open minds don't want to loving hear it.

That's not entirely fair! Marriages and families can destroy themselves without the help of the gays. I know your being sarcastic here but the fact that this is literally people's thought process saddens me.

So, this just went national. I'm sad that it's gone this far, but at the same time, this much negative coverage will almost certainly force the school board of Sullivan County to pull their heads out of their collective rear end and do something, which I can only hope (but will probably be disappointed to hear is not) the right thing.

I don't know why this comes up every year. How many gay couple are there in any given school? There will be one or two in a crowd of many. Then again I've never known anyone in the employ of a school to allow any aspect of anything to go uncontrolled.

I'm not American. Prom's in your senior year, before you graduate, right? It is such a loving petty thing to do, to exclude a bunch of kids from something that's meant to be a fun, lasting memory for everyone. Instead, whether the lovely folks trying to segregate their prom succeed or not, they'll at least have succeeded in giving the gay kids a lasting reminder that some people in this world are just complete loving holes, ready to unite in their dislike of people who've done nothing to them, because it gives them a sense of power over others.

There are petitions to have her fired, but the administration of the county is equally bigoted and lovely. The community backlash from the surrounding urban counties is hilarious and massive, to the point where the police have stepped in because threats were made. I'll edit this post as the inevitable shitstorm continues to build. The teacher is loving terrible, but I genuinely hope the bigots do have their own "no gays allowed" prom, since the School has said they aren't going to ban gays from the real prom. Students will have 2 choices, the prom, or the creepy dance put on by the church and conforming with the churches moral standards (which are going to go a lot further than banning gays). And all but the most hardcore of evangelicals at the Church Prom are going to be spiteful and resentful about how their bigoted parents screwed them out of prom.

OH JOY! Militaristic rhetoric used in regards to treating a group that a bunch of bigoted Christians don't like as dogshit, bringing back vestigial memories of the countless atrocities committed in Jesus's name by other Christians who decided to think of the Galilean pacifist as a military general. I love it when they do that - makes it much easier to dismiss the worthless asswipes.quote:"Christians have always been prepared for a fight. Jesus gave us armor for the front, not the back; we're not running anymore," said Bill Phegley with Carlisle Church. "...Except we're running to a separate prom where we get to exclude gay people." quote:Jesus gave us armor for the front, not the back; Yes, you simply *must* leave the back-armor off so the devil can shove his gay-hating cock in your rear end and sit-and-spin puppeteer you around to spew hateful bullshit in Jesus's name. gently caress, they are just kids. Why can't they get a drat break from all this stuff. Even if you don't wanna treat a homosexual with dignity you could at least be enough of an adult to treat a kids with some respect. Samurai Sanders posted:I dunno if it helps head that off or not but in both high school and college that club was called the gay-straight alliance. I always liked that name. Whatever name the group in question goes by, you will sometimes have school districts where rear end in a top hat evangelicals in the area start foaming at the mouth and declaring the group to be a place of 'perversion.' Instead of community spirit & activities, morale support for struggling and possibly suicidal kids, outreach & understanding, etc. Basically, gays aren't people - they're sexual robots who automatically pervert everything, in these insane freak-of-nature religious bigots eyes. It's yet another case of homophobes thinking *wayyyyyy more* about gay sex than the targets of their ire. On that note - do any of you (who aren't some grotesque envious couple-hating manchildren) think "GOD THOSE TWO ARE loving AND ITS GROSS AND DICKS GOING INTO VAGINAS UGH" when you see a heterosexual couple kissing & holding hands? Because that's the reaction gay people get for kissing and holding hands - apparently we simply can't stop sex-obsessed weirdos from imagining how much weird kinky sex we *obviously* must be having in private. It's a question of immaturity in regards to a human primary impulse. Instead of being mature intelligent rational adults approaching sexuality in a sane manner, they treat human sexuality the way that anorexics and bullemics treat food. They're completely obsessed with all perceived signs of sex, and its denial & elimination, to the point of being downright unhealthy - but in the case of homophobes, not just for themselves, but for others around them. Bullemics at least puke into a bucket in private; homophobes take their verbal diarrhea onto the road to try to inflict their hatemongering sickness on the rest of society, and try to ban gays from things.
