If you’re anything like me, you know how difficult it is to motivating yourself to finish the games you’ve purchased… doubly (or more!) so if you’ve purchased them at deep discount during a Steam Sale. This thread aims to help motivate you to complete some of the games that have been collecting dust on your shelves, foster discussion/criticism of games, and bring about attention and insight into games that others may know little about. HOW THIS WORKS 1. You PICK ONE (1) GAME FROM THE PREVIOUS POSTER'S LIST for him/her to play. They must now complete that game. 2. You POST AT MOST TEN (10) GAMES YOU ARE ASHAMED OF NEVER COMPLETING. Please also WRITE A SHORT ANECDOTE about each game and why you haven't completed it. 3. The next poster PICKS ONE (1) GAME FROM YOUR LIST for you to play. You must now complete that game. 4. You complete the game picked for you, then WRITE A REVIEW. 5. You SWAP OUT THE GAME YOU JUST COMPLETED WITH A NEW GAME, then POST YOUR NEW LIST again, you must limit your list to at most TEN (10) GAMES. 6. You PICK ONE (1) GAME FROM THE PREVIOUS POSTER'S LIST for him/her to play. They must now complete that game. 7. The next poster PICKS ONE (1) GAME FROM YOUR NEW LIST to play. You must now complete that game. THE CYCLE CONTINUES! IMPORTANT - REMEMBER TO PICK A GAME FOR THE PREVIOUS POSTER! - If someone has already picked a game for the previous poster, pick a game for the next available poster. - If a poster has been skipped for a pick, pick a game for your poster and the skipped poster. This keeps things moving! - Only pick games from the poster’s list. - You’re free to comment on other posters’ lists and even make recommendations; however, only the “picker” can make the poster complete the game. - Please complete the game that’s been picked for you. If for some reason you can’t, please say and someone will pick another game for you. - The idea of completion can often be difficult to define in games; with open-world/sandbox games like Skyrim and Grand Theft Auto, aim to complete the main questline; with puzzle games, aim to complete the story or adventure mode (if applicable) or set a time/stage limit goal for yourself when making your list. - Try to list games that you actually own/have spent money on. - Keep the conversation healthy and good-spirited! [thanks to thegloaming of CineD for this outline] MY BACKLOG 1. Elemental Gimmick Gear [1999, Dreamcast] Absolutely beautiful game that I’m excited to revisit, but I got stuck at one part back when I bought the game in the early 2000s and I’ve never bothered to go back and complete it. Extra shameful if that I’ve gone out of my way to recommend this game to people despite the fact that I’ve only logged about two hours on it myself. 2. Parappa the Rapper [1997, Playstation] I’ve beaten the hell out of its sequel [Parappa the Rapper 2, not Um Jammer Lammy] a half dozen times, yet have never been able to get past Chop Chop in the original. It feels like I’m this close to figuring out the bizarre timing in this game, yet I keep coming up short and getting discouraged. 3. Rayman 2 [2000, Dreamcast] Probably the game that I’d point to if I ever had to pick a favorite 3D platformer of all time, yet I’ve only completed 10 or so levels. When I’m playing it, I’m loving the ride, yet for some reason I always get distracted by something else and never end up making any real progress. 4. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon [2001, Game Boy Advence] I feel like I made it pretty far in this game back in 2001 and then hit a boss that I couldn’t quite figure out the right card combination on and gave up. I’ve since kicked the everloving crap out of SotN so I think I’m ready to take on this one again. 5. Maken X [1999, Dreamcast] This came out at an awkward time for shooters on consoles, where dual analog wasn’t yet a thing and most people who did play them were used to mouse and keyboard. As a result, games like this were a little tough to get into… Similarly controlled title Slave Zero, which I’m halfway through as of yesterday, is pretty much my inspiration for this whole exercise. 6. Viewtiful Joe [2003, GameCube] Finesse action games really aren’t my strong suit – truth be told, I’m pretty terrible at them – but I love nearly everything about this game, from the art direction to the writing. I’d probably have to play on Kid’s Mode this time because I’m a giant baby who hasn’t gotten better at these types of games in a decade. 7. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island [1995, Super Nintendo] This came out at the perfect time for me to completely ignore it: I’d gotten rid of my NES, never had a SNES of my own, and quickly became infatuated with this new Playstation thing. By the time I did get around to purchasing a SNES, my attention span for straight platformers had waned and I doubt I ever completed half of the levels. 8. MDK2 [2000, Dreamcast] Loved it, got pretty far, hit one of the stupid Dr. Hawkins puzzle levels and never looked back. I think it’s finally time to take a second look. 9. The Darkness [2007, Xbox 360] See above… got (what I think was) really far and then stopped for some reason. I recall that I’d traveling into the past and there was some kind of cannon/tank/train thing? For a long time, I’d actually thought this was the better game than BioShock, which I now realize is loving crazy, but it’s true… got both at the same time and played The Darkness almost exclusively to begin with. 10. Super Mario Sunshine [2002, GameCube] Considered the worst of the 3D Marios, as someone who’s not a fan of the 3D Marios at period, this one has always seems the most fascinating to me simply because it’s the most experimental. I’ve had it since 2005 and have logged maybe an hour on it ever.

How long do the reviews have to be? I want to try this but school is starting soon and when I tried the roman roulette or whatever it was called I was so burnt out from school all I could write was "Amnesia was kind of cool I guess" well everyone else was writing page long reviews.

Nothing crazy... a couple of paragraphs (2) would most likely suffice, although longer reviews would be more than welcomed. This could be as simple as an explanation of what you did or didn't enjoy about the title, or as elaborate as something you'd find in a Tim Rogers review (please do not do this) While the primary goal is obviously to get you to actually play the games you've spent your hard earned money on, a big secondary benefit is that (hopefully) you will become more able to put into words exactly what you do and don't like about the games you're forced to play, and maybe help you better decide what to spend your money and time on in the future. Also, while professional game reviews are all well and good, I've found that SA posters tend to be both, 1, well spoken and to the point, and 2, brutally honest, so these postmortems should benefit others in the thread as well. zenintrude fucked around with this message at Feb 11, 2013 around 20:14 |

Can we include games we own but haven't started yet? Edit: Is there a deadline for games chosen for us regardless of their play length?

zenintrude posted:7. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island [1995, Super Nintendo] There you go. 1: Rockman DASH 1&2 (PSP Collection, JP) - I love Megaman Legends, I've played through each game several times over. I enjoy the concept so much that when I saw the Japanese Only PSP rerelease on sale on some website (I forget which), I bought them right up and had every intent to play them. I got about fifteen minutes into DASH 1 and then got distracted. It is absolutely my intent to play both these games if this one's picked. 2: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS) - Admittedly, a turn-based strategy game in the SMT franchise made me really wary. It took me 100 hours to finish Digital Devil Saga twice--I had to get them optional bosses. Still, I played the first three or four tutorial battles, realized I spent two hours on the game already without really doing much, and turned it off to play something else. 3: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abbadon (PS2) - I played the first Raidou Kuzunoha game and I had a great amount of fun with it. Even if the battles were limited in scope, they had fairly decent, quick combat that only got longer when enemies started getting way harder. The promises of the sequel made me ask for it, but by the time I got it I'd fallen into some other game. 4: Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSP) - You're probably seeing a pattern of Shin Megami Tensei titles by now--my two best friends love the franchise, and one in particular is absolutely mad for Persona 2. She begged me to buy this and play it when it came out, but I had to finish some other game and it got shelved. That might potentially not be the case. Though speaking of Persona 2... 5: Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PSX) - Bought it off eBay bundled with Revelations: Persona when I was in high school. I actually got decently far in this game and had a lot of fun with it, but the grind bogged me down too much. Let's try and shift the focus from lengthy RPGs and give a little more variety. 6: We 7: Metroid: Other M (Wii) - The gameplay looked fascinating, and getting to see Samus' backstory was a cool idea at the time. Until we all found out that the game's story is bad. 8: Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner (PS2) - I had a blast with the first game, and the sequel looked considerably longer. Mechs and poo poo, yeah, go mechs. 9: Torchlight II (PC) - Again, my best friend and I were playing this and Borderlands 2 co-op. We focused more on Borderlands 2 and less on this, and then we didn't come back to it. If this one's picked I'll complete it solo. 10: Final Fantasy (NES) - Four White Mage run. Four White Mage run. Four White Mage run. Yes I know there are more difficult comps but still. As I recall I'm around the Earth Cave grinding money for spells, should I pick the grind back up?

All I remembered about Zone of the Enders is that it had mechs and was kind of an Evangelion ripoff. Then I saw in the opening cutscene, "Produced by Hideo Kojima". ZoE2 also provides a "Previous Story" option in the main menu that shows a bunch of cutscenes from the first game. Basically I forgot that these games are crazy and anime as gently caress. The combat is fun but the controls kind of suck; at least getting a game over really doesn't set you back far and it doesn't take long to recover.

Kind of turned me off it. 8.Napoleon: Total War [PC, 2010] Only picked it up a few months ago, right around the time Shalcar started an awesome LP of Shogun: Rise of the Samurai. Been playing along with that instead of getting into this. 9.Dishonored [PC, 2012] I just haven't made time for this yet. Seems like a really excellent game though. 10.Castlevania, Symphony of the Night [PSX, 1997] (Playing the PSN version. Not sure if there's a difference or not.) I'm bad at MetroidVania games. I just get lost, have no idea what to do and end up wandering around aimlessly then quit them.

I chose two games at complete random a couple weeks ago and ended up having a blast playing through Recettear and Limbo. Might as well get goons to choose the next one for me ![]() letgomyAgo posted:1.The Witcher, Enhanced Edition [2008, PC] It took me two tries to finish act 2 as well. It's worth pushing through it. Very slight spoiler: Be careful when talking to suspects. If you ask them a question that could be seen as an accusation, they get pissy and won't help you. There's no way to "lose" the investigation, but piss enough people off and it might take a while. These are all for PC: 1. Civilization IV and 3 expansions- Played this for about an hour before I uninstalled and dug out my old Alpha Centauri disk. I should probably give Civ 4 another chance, I didn't even install any of the expansions. 2. Volvo: The Game- A freebie from when I made an account at Gamersgate. Probably a terrible, lovely game. Then again, maybe not??? 3. The Longest Journey- I got hit by a bug that breaks the game if you assemble an item in the wrong order and didn't have any recent saves. Ended up purchasing Mass Effect on a whim shortly after, and that was that. 4. Gemini Rue- Another adventure game where I got stuck on a bug. It would crash semi-randomly in scenes where it was raining. 5. The Undergarden- I don't remember buying this. 6. Myst- Saw this collecting dust on the top shelf in a Gamestop a while ago. The staff weren't even aware they had it, and let me buy it for a dollar. 7. Bit.Trip Runner- This was part of a bundle that included Jamestown and Super Meat Boy. Never got around to installing this one. 8. Psychonauts- I hear this is really good, just never got around to trying it for some reason. 9. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time- Bought it on a friend's recommendation and promptly forgot about it. 10. Bioshock 2- I bought this together with the first Bioshock. Really enjoyed Bioshock, but I wasn't in the mood to return to rapture right after finishing the first game.

Just a general bit of advice. If a game makes you miserable, don't put it on your backlog list. Imagine you paid 60 dollars for a trashy game. Now imagine that you're desperate to get your money's worth, so you grind your way to completion across 20 hours of personal grief. Why is that stupid? You'd be doubling up on your losses in order to relieve regret. You can't take the purchase back. Not only would you have lost 60 dollars on a bad purchase, now you would've lost 20 hours of free time that could've been spent on a better game. Basically, only backlog games you think you'll enjoy. Let the regret go. Have fun with your spare time.

Fruits of the sea posted:6. Myst- Saw this collecting dust on the top shelf in a Gamestop a while ago. The staff weren't even aware they had it, and let me buy it for a dollar. Play this. It's a pretty quick playthrough and, for my money, still one of the best point-and-click adventure games out there. I can't guarantee that I'll finish whatever game is picked for me (I'm finishing my Master's/job-hunting/apartment-hunting etc.) but I really want to complete some of these games I've left half-finished and could use a second opinion on how to prioritize: 1. Torchlight (PC): Enjoyed it, got about halfway through before something else caught my attention and I never bothered to go back. 2. Orcs Must Die! (PC): Played the first two missions, liked it but got distracted by other things. 3. Red Steel 2 (Wii): Got 90% through it, moved to a new apartment, and by the time I unpacked it I had lost all my momentum. 4. Deus Ex (PC): Got into it for the first time over the new year, loved it but couldn't finish it before the new semester started. Winner for this round (Bobby the Rookie)5. Dungeons of Dredmor (PC): Finally had a good run, got about 2/3 of the way through before other responsibilities or other games popped up (seeing a pattern here?) 6. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii): Actually making consistent progress on this one but it's so drat long (65 hours in and I'm 75% through it at best). No matter what game you pick from this list I'll probably still devote an hour or two each week to Xenoblade. 7. Psychonauts (PC): Enjoyed it for a while but it got too collectathon-y for me at a time. I just started getting good powers though, and my PS3 is unhooked which means I could use its controller to play this game without it turning the PS3 on and off, if only I remembered how MotionJoy worked... 8. Last Scenario (PC): Basic but pretty good goon-made jRPG. Got pretty far on my last computer before getting a new one, never bothered to continue my playthrough (plus it's really hard). Currently being LP'd here so I'd like to stay current or ahead of that thread. 9. Star Wars - Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (PC): Got the lightsaber but got turned off by the level after that with all the crazy sniper dudes (mostly because I got lost), so I never got to experience all the sweet lightsaber combat and Force powers. Could easily be talked into re-visiting if solutions to these problems are given (also have it on GC but I feel like PC is the preferred platform) 10. Rock of Ages (PC): Enjoyed it but, once again, got distracted towards the end and didn't end up completing the last few levels. Like I said, I picked games that I've started, got through most of, but left unfinished, as I'd rather be able to cross games off my "To-Do List" before even looking at other games I've never touched. Cool, I like backlog threads and I'm kind of unmotivated in selecting a game to play at the moment.C-Euro posted:4. Deus Ex (PC): Got into it for the first time over the new year, loved it but couldn't finish it before the new semester started. 1. Trine: Got this from a kindly goon a long time ago and was motivated enough to get an achievement during one of the sales, but I strayed away because I had other stuff I wanted to play more. 2. LIMBO: Gifted to me not too long ago, I might have left off about halfway through. Good atmosphere, though again I kind of dropped off playing it since it was a pretty simple puzzler and I had other things to play. 3. Sonic CD: I played Sonic Generations and really enjoyed it, especially the 2D levels, so I wanted to play what many consider to be one of the best older Sonic games and see how I liked that. I've only played a few levels, and it's pretty good so far, although the levels are much harder and unforgiving than Generations' were. 4. Nimbus: This is from a Humble Bundle a while back, I think. I've played quite a bit of it and really dig it, but I think I got stumped by a bunch of the secret medals and just kind of stopped playing because I couldn't fathom how to get them. CHOSEN--->5. Miasmata: Bought it in the most recent sale, really dig it, but just haven't put in enough time with it. 6. Bully: Scholarship Edition: I loved Bully back on the PS2, even beat it to 100% completion. I stopped a few hours into this one because the port was a little janky and I got stuck on a really annoying mission that I remember getting stuck on in the first game. 7. Darksiders: Picked it up in the THQ bundle, haven't touched it yet. I saw a stream of Darksiders 2 which looked incredibly boring, but apparently this is the better of the two and pretty enjoyable. 8. Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City: I finished the original GTA IV on 360 ages ago, and have only played a bit of TLAD and Gay Tony, and that was mostly getting distracted by editing the ini to achieve ultra-rear end in a top hat deathcar physics, but I'd like to finish them for real sometime. 9. Vampire: The Masquerae: Bloodlines: I'm a big fan of janky-but-excellent Deus Ex-ian western RPG's, and I always hear wonderful things about this game. I finally got it in a sale about a year ago, but haven't worked up the effort to get the fan patch and make it run correctly. 10. Company of Heroes: Played it years and years ago, liked it a lot, but I was pretty bad at RTS games (I still am, for the most part). Picked it up in the THQ bundle, want to play it, probably will suck at it, but everybody loves it. Bobby The Rookie fucked around with this message at Feb 13, 2013 around 09:10 |

Definitely worth playing through to completion, although not everybody agrees with me there. If you like it so far, though, I'd totally consider finishing it. It's neat as hell. My list seems to be composed of some seriously respected and/or beloved PC games, and I probably deserve to maimed for paying for all of these and not making any real progress on any of them. Borderlands 2. I paid full retail for this game and I can't be assed to get past the first icy wasteland level. I seriously couldn't bear to hear another word out of Claptrap's mouth, and it was that grating, obnoxious sense of humor that kept me from really getting into the first game. But my experience with BL2 has been unique in that every thing this game has thrown at me so far has felt completely tedious and flat. I know the environments get more interesting and the enemy types and gunplay are bound to expand at some point, but so far, the fact that I paid 60 USD for something I find so uninspiring is killing me, and I can't will myself to go back. Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I got up to the Chinatown under-city district that I forget the name of, and for whatever reason I stopped playing. I think I ended up losing track of all the sidequests that blossomed up with the new and exciting area and I felt somewhat lost the last time I tried to go back. I forgot what was effective and where the plot had been going. I really liked this game for however long I played (although I'm dreading the second boss fight, which I can only presume is near). Max Payne 1. My friend, being a huge MP fan, tried to get me to play the original titles before playing MP3 and I just couldn't finish it. The environments were gorgeous and evocative, and the tone was pretty superb, but I was bored by the actual game after a while, which seemed to boil down to corridors and corridors of angry, dumb mooks. Cool game, but a little too dry and repetitive to want to go back to. Orcs Must Die!. After spending enough time playing OMD!2 co-op, I just can't bring myself to go back to playing this game single-player. Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. I know that this game has to get interesting with the whole business sim side of things soon, but it hasn't gotten there yet. The anime doesn't bother me, but the opening to this game was too uninspiring to go back to. Crusader Kings 2. I actually haven't even played this one, but I know how good it's supposed to be. The time and interest investment, though... I understand that this game is quite dense and unforgiving at first, and as much as I know I'll love it once I get into the swing of things, I'm scared to get into it. Yes, I know about the tutorial LP. Hitman: Blood Money. Played through a good chunk of it back when it came out, I have no excuse for this one. I just haven't played it yet, and I know I should. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. Yeah, I know. I'm sorry. I hate downloading fan patches. I also have the other two games ready and waiting. Star Wars: KOTOR. I was so loving bored. I couldn't get into this at all. Star Wars and Bioware don't excite me very much, and there wasn't much else that compelled me to play this past the first planet. Far Cry 3. Never got past the first island, got bored of the insipid plot and the unlikable protagonist. I unlocked every bag and killed every animal, climbed almost every radio tower, and got bored. I understand there's a wingsuit and new stuff to unlock, but that isn't really enough of an enticing prospect to bring me back.

The Dig - I haven't played an adventure game in a long time and I know very little about this one aside from the fact a bunch of people told me it was great back in the day. 3. All of Thief - I've played so many games this series inspired, but never any of the originals. 4. The Secret of Monkey Island - On the same vibe as the Dig, but with more humor. I loved Sam and Max Hit the Road and this has a similar pedigree. 5. KoToR 2 - KOTOR is one of my favorite games ever but after terrible word of mouth, I steered clear of the sequel. Now that it's "finished" I'm willing to give it a shot. 6. Bioshock 2 - System Shock is one of my favorite games ever, and I enjoyed the first Bioshock. While I understand this moves even farther from its forbear, I'd like to give it a shot. 7. Alpha Protocol - Second Obsidian game on my list (plus I'm playing New Vegas.) I heard it was kind of a buggy mess and weird when it first came out. I enjoy quirky and good writing, plus Obsidian has garnered significant goodwill from me for New Vegas. 8. Dead Space 2 - I enjoyed the first and hear nothing but good about the second. Know that if I play this it will be as I played the first: With nothing but the Plasma Cutter. 9. The Darkness 2 - I haven't played anything approaching truly shooty in a long time and I enjoyed the demo. 10. Prince of Persia 2008 - I'm kind of afraid I may hate the simplified platforming and know about the dumb plot, but it seems short enough to blast through and I love the art design so I feel like I should at least try it. Worth noting: my backlog is so gigantic because instead of playing the games I buy, I play the handful of online multiplayer titles I already own in excess because I feel isolated in single player games. mango sentinel fucked around with this message at Feb 13, 2013 around 07:15 |

It's hard to choose between this and Bastion, both are excellent and memorable games. Went with KoToR 2 because I'm sure you won't regret it and it's the greater gameplay experience overall. 1. Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360) - It was fun for awhile but playing a shooter with a gamepad got to me and other games grabbed my attention. I would like to give it another shot. 2. Jade Empire (PC) - The forgotten Bioware RPG. I've always wanted to play through it. It's just hard getting through pages of dialogue these days. 3. Metro 2033 (PC) - Either Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3 pulled me away from it. 4. Dishonored (Xbox 360) - I started playing Dungeon Defenders with my twin brother and forgot about this game. 5. The Witcher 2 (PC) - It was so clunky to control with mouse and keyboard. My brother just finished playing through it with a gamepad and highly recommends it now. It's got me curious. 6. Total War Shogun 2 (PC) - I loved the poo poo out of the original Shogun and haven't been able to get into a Total War game since. Love the turn-based aspect of the game but not a fan of the real-time battles; I always let the computer simulate those. Now I need to be motivated to just get through the tutorial of one of these games and play through it. 7. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC) - I didn't get very far before something distracted me away from the game. I feel I've missed out on something pretty good. 8. Mass Effect 3 (PC) - I lost my saves for the first 2 games so I didn't really have a continuing story going into the third. Plus everyone whines about how it ends. I should still get some closure on the series. 9. Dark Souls (PC) - I get mad. Real mad. 10. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (PC) - I couldn't get the widescreen fix to work.

I also discovered that I have Myst: Masterpiece Edition on my gog account. I leave the choice as to which I should play in your hands, but I think I'll go ahead and install the first Myst for now.

It's got me curious. A fantastic game, had problems playing with m+kb with my old PC because the game ran at 30fps. If you can get it to run smoothly it works just fine. All of these are on PC. 1. Serious Sam 2 - Got it in a Steam sale for like 2 bucks, loved the first 2 and SS 3. Played this when it came out, never got too far. 2. Miner Wars 2081 - Love Descent, thought this was like Descent. First 2 levels were nothing like Descent so I stopped playing. 3. Far Cry - Got it on Steam for preordering Far Cry 3. Played it a long time ago until the first level where the monster things showed up, got lost and gave up. 4. Darksiders - Steam sale, again. Installed but never even launched. 5. Batman: Arkham City - Steam sale, yet again. Played it for a while, felt like a kid-friendly version of Sleeping Dogs (which I had played the absolute gently caress out of a few weeks before buying this) 6. Crysis - Steam sale for 3€. Played for a while, it was fun but didn't grip me. 7. Dead Space - I think you can guess where I got this from by now. Played for 5-10 minutes, such a shabby PC port that didn't feel like playing anymore. 8. Prototype - The exact same problem I had with Dead Space. 9. Dead Rising 2 - I'd love to play this, but my GFWL account is banned. If anyone knows a way I can still play this with a new account, I'd start playing immediately. 10. F.3.A.R. - Played some with a friend in co-op, he hated it. Never tried single-player. C-euro posted:9. Star Wars - Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (PC): Got the lightsaber but got turned off by the level after that with all the crazy sniper dudes (mostly because I got lost), so I never got to experience all the sweet lightsaber combat and Force powers. Could easily be talked into re-visiting if solutions to these problems are given (also have it on GC but I feel like PC is the preferred platform) The 3-4 levels after getting the lightsaber are the absolute low point of the game, with illogical and annoying puzzles and snipers everywhere. You are going to need a walkthrough, guaranteed. But after that the game gets much much better. There are still snipers everywhere, but with level 2 force speed the game slows down to the point where you can get 3 fully charged disruptor rifle shots off before the snipers can get any, and you get a force heal that makes taking a hit or two from snipers irrelevant. Also, with the PC version you can do something that you can't do on the consoles. Something magical and something that makes Jedi Outcast one of the best games of all time: force jump bunnyhopping. It's easy to do and you can move at absolutely ridiculous speeds, slicing through enemies with the lightsaber before the AI even realizes you're there. Here you go. Even though SS2 is often considered the low point of the series, it's still a very enjoyable game, apart from a few annoying things like invisible walls. Here's my list; all these are on PC: 1. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - I got this in a Steam Christmas sale a few years ago. I got a fair way through it, but when I went back to uni I had to drop it, and never got around to playing again. 2. Divinity II - I got a good way through this, and remember enjoying it. I can't remember why I stopped playing; possibly I just got bored of the combat, as is common with this type of RPG. 3. Avadon: The Black Fortress - This was a pretty fun game, but one time it crashed right after a boss fight. My previous save was right before the boss, but the thought of having to fight it again sapped my enthusiasm and I stopped playing. 4. Geneforge 2 - Played the first one, and quite liked it, but never managed to get more than a couple of hours into this for whatever reason. 5. Just Cause 2 - Was a decent bit of fun, but for some reason I just totally forgot about it until now. 6. Thief: Deadly Shadows - I normally really enjoy this kind of game, but for some reason it just didn't grip me. I've been meaning to give it another go for a while. 7. Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura - Bought this not long ago, but dropped it not too far in because the combat was infuriatingly difficult. I think I had a pretty gimped character build, which probably didn't help. I rememeber spending way too much time going back and forth from the shop for ammo. 8. Ghost Master - I loved this game's concept, but I found it started getting too tricky in later levels. I just hit a brick wall in difficulty and couldn't get past it. When things got too complex, it was just frustrating trying to manage everything. 9. Bully: Scholarship Edition - Got put off by the bad port; it felt like I was playing through a PS2 emulator. Despite that it was reasonably fun and I'd happily give it another go if I can get it working again. 10. Batman: Arkham Asylum - Was pretty cool, but I found the combat getting kind of repetitive. Plus the environments were kind of bland and samey and that put me off a bit.

Finish this game, it's worth the experience even if the combat is repetitive. Plus, then you can move on to Arkham City! 1. Red Dead Redemption (360) - I quit pretty early because I felt like I didn't have the shootin' instincts for the missions at times. 2. Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) - Love the series, but I'm utterly dreading having to replay through the first chunk of the game, and I've always felt this inadequacy like I don't have the gene that makes a person good at Disgaea. 3. Deadly Premonition (360) - Started a new game for the sake of showing it off to my dad, and haven't picked it up since. 4. MGS2, of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (PS3) - I wanna beat MGS4 one of these days, and before that I'd like to refresh my memory of MGS2. 5. MGS: Peace Walker, of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (PS3) - MUST EXPERIENCE WHOLE TIMELINE BEFORE PLAYING MGS4 HNNNNNG. Haven't cracked this open yet. 6. Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (guess) - See Deadly Premonition. 7. Bayonetta (360) - Showed the first few levels to a number of friends, got stuck on the third level or so, worried that I'm not good enough to beat it. 8. Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition (PC) - I have vague memories of getting fed up with it in the second level like eight years ago. 9. Overlord (PC) - Rented this a few times way back when, snapped up the series in a Steam sale and haven't gotten around to it. 10. Demon's Souls (PS3) - Got stuck early on, forgot about it. Then Dark Souls came out.

Skyrim: Actually, I flat-out just haven't beaten this yet. 3. The Witcher 2: Got it either free or a huge discount, never even started it. 4. Goldeneye - Reloaded: Say what you will about this game, but I actually thought it was fun. I have no idea why I didn't finish it. 5. Binding of Isaac: Barely played it. 6. Cave Story: I think I got close to the ending, but can't remember. 7. Kingdoms of Amalur: Got this for christmas, haven't opening it yet. I'm not against it, just never got around to it. 8. MGS: Peace Walker: Played it a bit, on-and-off. Seemed fun! 9. Red Dead Redemption: Loved it, sort of lost interest after a while. 10. Rupert Buttermilk posted:9. Red Dead Redemption: Loved it, sort of lost interest after a while. 1. Resonance of Fate Got to about chapter 2. Characters seemed fun and combat seemed interesting, but I just couldn't really get a grip on how I should be playing it. So, I moved onto other things. 2. The Last Remnant Barely even touched. What little I saw of the combat seemed interesting, though I've heard mixed things both the combat and the game in general. 3. Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits The game has two parties that you switch between at various points in the plot. Party A was boring as loving sin. Party B actually had a pretty fun dynamic and some likable characters, even though they weren't especially complex or anything. Combat wasn't interesting or tactical enough to make the Party A segments anything but a slog, and maybe this was just bias but the Party A segments felt a lot longer than the Party B segments. So I dropped it. 4. Tales of Graces F Got really far into (I think I was at the end of the 'main' story), then just sort of forgot about. I was really enjoying the game, so I'll probably go back and finish this at some point even if it doesn't get picked. 5. Zone of The Enders: The 2nd Runner I thought the first game was decent, bought this when I saw it pretty cheap, then... never touched it. It's been sitting on my shelf for years. I don't think I've ever even played it. 6. Disgaea 4 Got about halfway into. Managed to forget about completely, despite really loving the first three games. 7. Okami Heard really good things about, got cheap, got maybe an hour in. I enjoyed what I saw but it was another one of those games I just never got around to really sitting down and playing. 8. Valkyria Chronicles 2 I enjoyed the gameplay, but the plot was pretty insufferable. And I have a high tolerance for anime hijinks. 9. Luminous Arc Holder of the lofty title of most generic game I've ever played in my life. 10. Final Fantasy VII I've owned this since it was new but I've never gotten past the first disk. Heck, I've never seen Aerith die. I try and beat it every other couple of years but I get to around where you recruit Vincent then just... stop. Game felt a bit dated last time I played it but it still wasn't bad.

No...no I didn't. Viewing forums on my new Blackberry, sometimes when I swipe down to the next post I cut off a bit of the top. Not used to this swiping stuff yet. I know, that dates me horribly. Should have held out for the Blackberry with the keypad. Anyways, see it now. Stick with the Devil May Cry run through, but just as a heads up I think you can often open up the old carts and change the battery. They're just those little round watch style batteries I think. Though I could be wrong on that. And having just typed that, I figured I would check, and while it's totally possible and not very hard, it does require a soldering iron and such. Likely more trouble then it's worth.

You are playing Okami! I have only got just over halfway through the game, and now do not own it anymore, so unfortunately I can't go back to it, you must finish it for me. (I actually just found it a little too slow and hand-holdy for my liking, same reason I lost interest in the newer Zelda games and so on) Here I go. 1. Assassin's Creed 3 - I got most of the way through the game, turned it off one day after doing a couple of homestead missions and never turned it back on. I'm sure I will eventually but I don't feel any drive to do it. 2. Witcher 2 - This seems to be on a couple of lists. I got nowhere in this game. I went into a swamp or something, and the first town after the tutorial, then I found a shipwreck and fought some stuff. That is all I did. I liked it, but by the time I went back to it i'd forgotten how to fight and gave up. 3. Trine 1+2 - I never finished either. Again, I loved the games, but i'd hit a point where I would just stop around 75% of the way through them and never go back. I do this a lot. 4. Disgaea 3 - Again, lost interest. I enjoyed it but found it tough, and I liked just making dudes and then getting them into fights. But I would usually lose because I was impatient. 5. Red Dead Redemption - I thought I would love this, but I got maybe an hour in and it just bores me so much. I like westerns, and I like open world games, but this just bored me senseless. It's just so slow. Maybe that's just how it is to get into it but I couldn't deal with it. 6. Vagrant Story - I try and play this game every couple of years, but i've never made it all the way through yet. I think with this it's less that I lose interest because frankly I think the game is amazing, but it's more that I get caught up in other things. 7. Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9 - I have played pretty much every FF game at some point in my life (mostly when I first discovered gaming as a teenager and thought they were amazing) but I have rarely, if ever, finished one. I think I did finish 7 actually but I think I had a cheated save of some kind in order to do it. 9 is my favourite out of all of them, and I have got right to the door before the end boss, but then not gone through it because if I do then the game is over and it's the only FF game I actually still like ![]() 8. Ghouls and Ghosts - Taking it old school, but I always get to the end of this game then get so frustrated that I just give up. I'm sure you all know what I mean. 9. Super Mario World - I own this on WiiWare and haven't touched it in years. I love Mario but I always hated this game cause I would keep trying to get all the secrets as soon as I could, without really knowing how to get them, and end up getting bored after dying a tonne. 10. Legend of Mana - The PS1 game. I discovered it and was blown away by how gorgeous it was, and how surprisingly well it played too. There's not really a reason I stopped it, just forgot about it. That is my cool list. I am willing to slowly play through any game on it. These days I really really prefer games that I can constantly be interacting with - think Dark Souls, where everything is discovered by the player, as opposed to Zelda, where every time you walk into a new room in a dungeon you are met with a 5 minute speech about how you can walk across the floor or something dumb like that. I will probably enjoy playing about half of this list. If you give me a game that I will not enjoy, I will play it but like this

Assassin's Creed 2 - Played 1 quite a bit and liked what I found, but the Italian setting didn't jive with me as much and I put this one down. Soul Nomad and The World Eaters - Really enjoyed what I did play, but it was right after some other Nippon Ichi games and the systems got a bit overwhelming. Cryostasis - I enjoyed what I played, but switched computers about 1/4 of the way through and didn't pick it up again. Shadow Hearts - Shelved this game not too far into it. Intriguing, but JRPG-styled games are a bit difficult to get into for me if they are not Persona/SMT. Dead Space - Bought on Steam sale, never even installed. If the port has major issues I would rather not play it. Disaster Report - Had the game forever, never got much beyond booting it up. Neverwinter Nights 2 OC/MotB - Played the OC until I got bored of it. Played a bit of MotB but stopped because I have a compulsion to follow CRPGs from the very start of the plot. I've tried this one many times, but the NWN2 engine/interface just plays so terribly that I always give up. Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Never bothered to play XIII, but XIII-2 looked interesting enough. Still interested in playing it, but it has spent no more than 30 minutes in my PS3. Spy Fiction - I like Deadly Premonition and Metal Gear, so it stands to reason that I would like both at the same time. SMT: Devil Summoner - New SMT games are pretty daunting, and I just haven't had the energy to plow into the Saturn ones. No language barrier issue, so don't hold back.

One of my favorite games from this console generation if not all time. Great soundtrack, artwork, gameply, great game all around. It's length is perfect for something like this thread too in that it can be beaten over a weekend easily but doesn't feel like a blur (if that makes sense). I ended up beating that part a few days ago so I'm ready to continue, I just haven't. 2) Quake - (Any of them) Beat the N64 port back in the day and the series was one of the first things I bought on Steam. Never got around to playing any of them again. 3) Gemini Rue - I really like adventure games but usually suck at them and lose interest after I resort to looking up puzzle solutions. According to Steam I've put in 3 hours. 4) Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City - Tried playing these with KB/M and got stuck on a helicopter mission during Gay Tony and lost interest in Lost and the Damned despite loving all things GTA. I have a controller now though. 5) Psychonauts - Picked it up during a sale, put 5 hours into it and it never really grabbed me. 6) Ys: The Oath in Felghana - Not really sure why I stopped playing this. I was liking it a lot even though it was kicking my rear end at every turn. 7) Serious Sam 3 - Lost a bit of progress after I forgot to save which required me to go back and beat some boss. I quickly lost interest after that. 8) Assassin's Creed II - I played this almost right up until the end on the PS3 and just got bored. I played Brotherhood and Revelations afterwards and have regretted giving up on II ever since. I'd be starting over on the PC though which is why I've continued to neglect it. 9) Viewtiful Joe - Noticing a pattern of me giving up on difficult games? ![]() 10) E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy - One of those games where I have to really be in the mood to sink some time into it. Fire Emblem (whichever one is titled that on GBA) - A fun game I liked the jist of (advance wars junkie) but dropped when I was younger because I kept getting mad that my favorite people would die 8.) Final Fantasy 8 - Seemed cool from the getgo but only spent maybe 5 hours on it before dropping it for a new shiny thing. 9.) Hearts of Iron 3 - Got it on sale recently and have been scared to touch it. I love EU3 and Vicky 2 but man does HOI seem like a lot.. 10.) If you've started playing those games and didn't like them, I don't want you to trudge through them, just because you feel like you should play them. I guess I'd suggest Crusader Kings 2 because you actually sound interested in playing, you just need a kick in the rear end to do so.
