Apparently Farming Simulator has been one of the highest grossing apps on the Mac App store for a few weeks now. I... I didn't know the market for this sort of thing was so big.

Is it really that much fun? There's only a Mac demo for the 2011 version. And (Überraschung!) it's in German.

It's actually very soothing. It's like tending a farm in Minecraft except the farm is really big and you drive a tractor back and forth instead of punching things.

Its interesting psychologically that so many people choose to "virtually" return to something we have done for 10,000 years but [most people] don't have much need to now.

Apps like Farmville were incredibly popular on Facebook for a while. I'm pretty sure my local 7-11 still sells Farmville game cards.

Oh man, an endurance hunting sim would be baller.

I would think it would be like Silent Hunter IV, but instead of stalking the Imperial Japanese Fleet, you would be increasing the time scale as you follow a deer for 3 days, all the while avoiding cave bears, sabre tooth cats, not running out of food and water yourself and needing to calculate in your head the correct speed, distance, angle and trajectory of your spear throw. And you don't have a fancy TDC to compute it!

Wasn't Deer Hunter a bit like this? I found myself aimlessly wandering the snowy mountains scanning the ground for deer tracks and poop and not seeing a single deer.

About 30 minutes later, he was STILL explaining the rules... I didn't stick around to see how long the actual game would take.
