The best fish n chips i've ever had (and continue to have) can be found at Mister Chips, in Whitby, North Yorkshire. A tad on the pricey side and you can queue for up to an hour during the summer but well, well worth it.

It needs a pickled onion the size of a baby's fist, not arty farty coleslaw. Also can u ask a question about tilapia. What on earth is it? Always saw it everywhere on the menu when I was in Florida. It has no taste at all.

Tartar sauce is the traditional sauce in my family; although I expect salt and vinegar would be excellent as well. And, freedom tastes best with ketchup. I have no idea what tilapia is. However, wikipedia says they are cichlids. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilapia

davestones posted:What do you have as a condiment? It needs a pickled onion the size of a baby's fist, not arty farty coleslaw. It's a gross fast-growing freshwater fish that's farmed in enormous quantities and so is incredibly cheap. It's not even particularly good for you unlike other fish because of how it's farmed and fed.

Tilapia is however quite a bit better for the environment because it's a vegetarian fish so it doesn't have the crazy footprint of other species that need an entire tier of feeding fish above them.

Anyone who eats anything other than haddock in their fish and chips is a wrong 'un. The dirty Lancastrian hot pot pigs can keep their cod and I don't even know what southern ponces eat nowadays. Portion of decent haddock and big, fat chips, cooked in lard or dripping, couple of scallops, scraps, curry sauce and a teacake for me. Anyone comes at me while I've got that wrapped up in a newspaper better have something pointier than a bloody screwdriver.

Here in Ottawa Canada we used to have a pretty decent place called the chippy. It went to poo poo though. Now the pieces are tiny, super greasy, and half the time the batter is undercooked and mushy. I'd kill for good fish and chips

I'd stab you with a screwdriver if you tried to make me eat that filth. That's what I'd call serendipity.
