Bonnaroo 2013, June 13-16!

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, in case you don't know, is an annual music festival that takes place in Manchester, TN in June. It's hot, huge, and generally speaking you camp there. (You can get day passes, or leave and come back, but if you do you are most certainly not doing it right) Usually there's around 80,000 people in attendance. A large group of goons go every year, and they camp together. I won't be camping at Camp Bonnagoon, but a lot of Goons do, so if you've never gone, this is a great option.

It's the best time of my life every year I go. I look forward to it every year, and wait anxiously for the lineup to drop.

There are several stages/tents, so chances are there's something worth listening to any time of any day you're there. And even if there's not, it's a constant party filled with cool people. Feel free to post experiences, questions, or thoughts about the lineup here!

Useful Links
Bonnaroo Offical Website - Where the lineup will be announced and tickets can be purchased.
Inforoo Message Boards - Can be very helpful for info like what camping is like, what you might want to bring, and general info. It did just get a redesign recently, so it no longer makes your eyes bleed.

Been twice before (2006, 2012 -- one guess as to the common thread there) and will most likely be heading back again this year. We had an RV last year for the first time ever (Camp Vincent Vega!) and I can't imagine doing it any other way.

also how many of you catch yourself hearing/saying "Bonnaroooo" to the tune of "Caribou" by the Pixies? Because I know I'm not the only one.

I'm a little worried about the rumors that Paul McCartney is going to be the headliner. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the Beatles as much as the next guy, but everywhere he goes he seems to be playing a fair amount of his Kisses on the Bottom album, which is one of the worst things I've ever heard. I'd love to hear Hey Jude, but I don't give a poo poo about My Valentine.

Oh well, it's not like he'd be the only person playing, though he would be while he's playing.

Hangout released (most of) their lineup today, which could help guess who will be at Bonnaroo. It's...not exactly inspiring me to go.

Public Enemy is cool, though, so I hope this means they might be at Bonnaroo as well. The Shins are good too, but I saw them last year at Roo.

I'd love to see Petty do Bonnaroo again, they were great in '06.

And no matter what crap we'd have to sit through, seeing McCartney would be such a bucket list item that I'd be ecstatic to see him on the lineup.

The key for me is bands outside the headlining group. That one fake poster that leaked is too good to be true but I'd really enjoy Modest Mouse, Kendrick Lamar (again), Beach House, Death Grips and Japandroids.

The whole lineup (likely minus most of the comedy tent which is normally late) is going to be announced tomorrow during a line youtube stream with Weird Al. It starts noon EST with one hour of bonnaroo concerts, then an hour of Weird Al actually announcing about the bands, then a special one hour old bonnaroo concert, which I guess will be all one band.

It's kind of hard to predict what Weird Al will do for an hour, but I hope that it's going to be in the style of his old MTV/VH1 takeovers when he had new albums coming out.

English, motherfucker, do you speak it?

I'm really hoping for a good lineup. Hangout kinda sucks and so does Coachella this year. But it's all about the mid size festivals for the jam band thing these days (for me at least).

Has anybody heard about Jambase Live? It's at the Gorge July 5&6 and I am super excited for them to announce the lineup.

Last year the weather was so awesome I don't really want that memory spoiled. Has to be a killer line-up this year. Mumford and Sons isn't that inspiring to me.

Now Bowie I would buy a ticket right loving now!

I guess no big EDM acts this year? The only thing I remember them saying was Porter Robinson, and he's not that big of an act.

edit: Oh, I guess Pretty Lights is the main one. I'm not really a fan and the whole EDM lineup feels anemic. Oh well.

You probably just missed it because Pretty Lights is on literally every festival lineup ever, so he becomes invisible.

Meh I'll see what Forecastle is doing this year.

Most everything I'd want to see I've seen already at smaller venues or are coming near me/already have tickets to (Grizzly Bear & Tame Impala).

Never been to Bonnaroo. I was so pissed off when I couldn't go the year They Might Be Giants, Ween, and The Flaming Lips were all playing.

But I really need to see Paul McCartney and doubt I'll get another chance to, so I better come up with the money this year.

McCartney and Petty alone will put on shows that will make the ticket price worthwhile.

Really looking forward to Wu-Tang, The xx, Kendrick Lamar, Animal Collective, Beach House, A$AP Rocky, Tame Impala, Purity Ring, Japandroids, Death Grips and Killer Mike.

I also love that Wilco is on the bill, except that I've seen them multiple times in more intimate venues, plus when they were touring for albums that don't suck (i.e. everything from Sky Blue Sky and before).

Their new record owns bones, son.

edit; Also, this is a festival show so their setlist will reflect that and they won't try to push the new record like they would at a straight up Wilco show.

Lineup added to the OP.

Holy poo poo that's some lineup. Paul McCartney will be sure to rock the farm, as his recent set lists seem amazing. All the modern folk bands I wanted are here, and for hip-hop fans have a lot to be excited about (I cannot believe R. Kelly is going to be there). Billy Idol is a nice surprise, I'm assuming he'll be a late night show like Alice Cooper was last year. Jim James was already leaked, but nice to see confirmed all the same. Oh, and ZZ loving Top. I am very excited.

Last year I went back for the 2nd time and had a blast, and the only headliner I even saw was RHCP. Radiohead was obscenely packed even a mile from the stage and it wasnt worth it to me. I left before Phish as well because Its not my scene, but the experience was still incredible. If you like the undercard, the undercard/experience is worth it. I hate to be cliche, but theres more to Bonnaroo than the headlining acts.

It's funny, because that RHCP show was the first time I'd actually wandered around Centeroo during a headliner (although we also ended up leaving before Phish) and it was incredible. I could've literally sat down and been front row for Alice Cooper, or near the front for Superjam. It's so sparsely-populated out there compared to what you normally see, it was kinda nice.

So basically, I'm really hoping there's an act I want to see that's playing a tent show after Mumford and Sons, so I can go grab a good tent spot during the Mumford show.

I realize your point is that there's plenty to see outside of the headlining spots (at all hours of the day) and that's totally true, as well.

e: well ideally, Mumford would headline Sunday so I can just leave early as usual, but I'm fully prepared to have to stay for Petty or McCartney on the last night

I prefer their pre-SBS stuff as well but their latest album is really good, if only for the last song - One Sunday Morning (gigantic fan and it is one of the best songs Wilco has ever written IMHO). I have seen them at intimate venues and big festivals (including Bonnaroo) and everything in between. They're always worth seeing and deliver a good live show.

edit: back on topic though, I'm a bit underwhelmed by the headliner acts. They don't make much sense to me. Also since when is Pretty Lights that popular? Do people actually like that?

Is there any word on what 'Wu-Tang Clan' means, ie. what members will be present? They don't all get along...
