I said a million dollars. With a million dollars (unintelligible) clemency. You couldn't do it till after the '74 elections. That's an incriminating thing. His, his word against the President's.

Spoiler alert: the State of the Union is strong.

What time is this thing?

9:00 PM Eastern Time. Visit the government's time website to figure out what that is for those of you living in inferior time zones.

Where can I watch Obama's last SOTU before his inevitable impeachment?

On any television channel. Turn on your TV. It'll be on. Here are some live stream links for those of us who don't own a TV

White House: http://www.whitehouse.gov/state-of-the-union-2013
C-SPAN: http://www.c-span.org/SOTU/

Please do post any other legal streams and I will add them to the OP. Please do not beg people to post stream links.

What about the Republican reaction?

Marco Rubio will give the GOP response shortly following the speech. Rand Paul will give the Tea Party response at 10PM.

Both will be shown on C-SPAN's stream. I'm going to guess neither will be shown on the White House stream.

Holy poo poo there are third parties in the US?!?

Jill Stein will also respond to the State of the Union speech at 9PM.

What if I'm a shut-in who is allergic to light and hates internet forums?

Network: irc.synirc.net
Channel: #poligoon

Or you can use this handy mibbit link!

Doesn't seem likely given that it's being reported that Rand's Tea Party response will say that the US should adopt immigration reform and cut spending. I'm going to go waaaaaay out on a limb and say that Rubio's speech might focus on similar subjects.

The big news so far is that he's going to announce the withdrawl of 34,000 troops from Afghanistan by this time next year.

I don't think that's particularly surprising since he said as much during the campaign.

How much political capital would an assassination attempt on the president by Ted Nugent (successful or not) give the Democratic party? I am thinking less than Kennedy or King, but more than Reagan. Still more if it was attempted while riding a white buffalo.

Ford came close

quote:

I must say to you that the state of the Union is not good: Millions of Americans are out of work.
Recession and inflation are eroding the money of millions more.
Prices are too high, and sales are too slow.

This year's Federal deficit will be about $30 billion; next year's probably $45 billion.
The national debt will rise to over $500 billion.
Our plant capacity and productivity are not increasing fast enough.
We depend on others for essential energy.

Some people question their Government's ability to make hard decisions and stick with them; they expect Washington politics as usual.

Yet, what President Truman said on January 5, 1949, is even more true in 1975. We are better able to meet our people's needs. All Americans do have a fairer chance to pursue happiness. Not only are we still the foremost nation in the pursuit of peace but today's prospects of attaining it are infinitely brighter.

There were 59 million Americans employed at the start of 1949; now there are more than 85 million Americans who have jobs. In comparable dollars, the average income of the American family has doubled during the past 26 years.

Now, I want to speak very bluntly. I've got bad news, and I don't expect much, if any, applause. The American people want action, and it will take both the Congress and the President to give them what they want. Progress and solutions can be achieved, and they will be achieved.

Ted Nugent spent the afternoon giving a masters class on stayin' classy.

quote:

“I threatened the President? Are you kidding me? Why don’t you just say that I’m a gay pirate? You’ve got to be kidding me,” he said to reporters on Tuesday. “Why don’t you talk to the Secret Service guys who visited me and concluded nothing even hinted a threat against the president.”

“He probably has s**t for brains,” he said of Rep. Jim Langevin (D-R.I.), who questioned Nugent’s presence at the State of the Union.

Langevin, who is in a wheelchair and paralyzed from a shooting accident when he was a teenager, has been encouraging his colleagues to bring victims of gun violence as their guests to the State of the Union.
