SHAMELESS COPY/PASTING FROM DEADLINE GOES HERE (AKA: Primetime Pilot Panic!): ABC: 4/6: quote:If the rather dull Pirates Of The Caribbean Disney ride spawned a successful movie franchise, could the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad do the same on the small screen? Despite taking jabs for its origins and casting mostly unknowns, Big Thunder is a surprising early leading contender on the drama side at ABC. Not so surprising is the very strong early showing of the McG-directed Romeo and Juliet-esque soap Venice, with another soapy drama, Betrayal, and the horror take on Once Upon A Time, Gothica, also drawing some early attention, while Reckless and The Returned are emerging as dark horses. Then there is a drama pilot with a zero buzz that is all but assured a spot on the schedule, Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Why isn’t anyone talking about S.H.I.E.L.D.? Because virtually no one has seen it, with Marvel and Whedon keeping the footage under lock and key. And then there is the Once Upon A Time spinoff presentation, which is now filming and has got to be considered a prime contender for a series order. 4/13: quote:No major shakeups in the early standings at ABC where corporate synergy-friendly titles look strong. The first pilot from Disney-owned Marvel, Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D., is all but assured a spot on the schedule. Big Thunder, based on the Disney ride, is a major contender. The Once Upon A Time spinoff, set in Wonderland, is expected to gain momentum as shooting on the short presentation just wrapped. Also hot is the McG-directed Romeo and Juliet-esque soap Venice, along with Gothic soap Gothica. Influence is getting notices for the chemistry between leads Christian Slater and Steve Zahn, with Betrayal, Reckless, The Returned and Murder In Manhattan also in contention. Doubt has been quiet because of its late casting but it comes from House creator David Shore. 4/21: quote:Corporate synergy drama pilots continue to get the strongest buzz at ABC. That includes Marvel-Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D., Big Thunder, based on the Disney ride, and the Once Upon A Time spinoff, set in Wonderland, which is getting good preliminary notices for its just-wrapped short presentation. Heating up is mother-daughter dramedy Murder In Manhattan, whose premise is very on-brand for ABC, as is the Romeo and Juliet-esque soap Venice. Also looking solid is Gothic soap Gothica, though it is unclear whether ABC would put three fantasy-driven series on the air with Once, its spinoff and Gothica. Gaining momentum is the Christian Slater-Steve Zahn vehicle Influence, from Kyle Killen, while Betrayal and Doubt have been quiet but can’t be discounted. 4/28: quote:Drama Lucky 7 may live up to its name. The blue-collar ensemble about gas station employees who win the lottery seemed a little off brand for ABC and its glitzy dramas. But I hear the project based on a British format, which hadn’t drawn much attention, came in above expectations, making it a contender in what’s shaping to be a very tight race. It’s tight because two slots have already been penciled in for Marvel‘s S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Once Upon A Time spinoff, whose early footage I hear ABC brass liked. Also boosted by corporate synergy is major contender Big Thunder, based on the Disney ride. Word is ABC may choose one of its two soapy pilots, Westside and Betrayal, with Westside having the edge at the moment. (However, Betrayal‘s David Zabel has two irons in the fire as he is also behind Lucky 7.) The gothic soap Gothica has cooled off a bit while high-concept The Returned, about deceased coming back to life as their old selves, is heating up after another great pilot directing performance by Charles McDougall who, in his typical fashion went over on filming days (by 4 I hear) but delivered a strong pilot. Among the character procedurals, Murder In Manhattan, Doubt, Killer Women and Influence all seem in the mix. 5/2: quote:It is shaping up to be a strong season for producers David Zabel and Aaron Kaplan at ABC. Both of Zabel’s ABC drama pilots, Lucky 7 and Betrayal, have been well received. I hear Betrayal has gained momentum and is tracking stronger than ABC’s other soapy drama pilot, Westside. Don’t forget Marvel‘s S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Once Upon A Time spinoff; the latter has not been delivered yet, but both are fully expected to make the schedule. Also yet to be screened is Big Thunder, based on the Disney ride, which seems to have lost some momentum but is still very much in contention. Meanwhile, gothic soap Gothica, which had cooled off, might be back on track. The Returned has come in strong, with Reckless OK. Among the character procedurals, Murder In Manhattan is solid, with Influence in the mix, though it is deemed more suitable for cable, and Killer Women and Doubt yet to be seen. On the comedy side, the untitled Adam Goldberg project is a front-runner, with the Kaplan-produced Bad Management and Back In The Game (Cullen Bros.) strong. Also hot are female-starring vehicles Trophy Wife (Malin Akerman) and Rebel Wilson’s Super Fun Night, along with ensemble Mixology. Spy and Pulling, which also is produced by Kaplan, are possibilities though not a sure thing. Middle Age Rage and John Leguizamo’s King John have yet to be seen but both appear in contention. CBS: 4/6: quote:With CBS recently renewing 18 programs (and two more pending, Two And A Half Men and Criminal Minds), the network has very little shelf space for next season. The competition is shaping up to be fierce on both the comedy and drama side. I hear top CBS brass are particularly happy with this year’s crop of half-hour pilots. Chuck Lorre’s pilot Mom, starring Anna Farris, is as close to a sure thing as they come, and that’s just on paper as the project is yet to go into production, awaiting for Lorre to wrap his three CBS series. Also all but assured at least one spot on the schedule is Greg Garcia, who has two pilots, the recently completed single-camera Super Clyde, which is getting good buzz, and a multi-camera pilot, which is yet to film but boasts top-notch cast led by Will Arnett. After once again sticking to all-multi-camera series orders last May, CBS is expected to back up its statements of commitment to the single-camera genre with 1-2 single-camera series pickups. In addition to Super Clyde, other early single-camera standouts include the Robin Williams-starring Crazy Ones and the Irish family comedy The McCarthys, while ensemble Friends With Better Lives is strong on the multi-camera side. Because of their very late casting, there is no feedback yet on the single-camera Rottenberg/Zuritsky and Tad Quill, but with Debra Messing and Matthew Broderick as the leads, they are intriguing. 4/13: quote:Chuck Lorre has done it again. Not that his clout alone was not enough to make his newest pilot Mom an instant frontrunner for the fall schedule the day it was greenlighted by CBS in December. Still, for CBS’ peace of mind, they were hoping the show would come together well. The network brass just got their wish with a rousing table read. The only remaining question surrounding Mom is where it will land on the schedule. I hear Monday 8:30 PM as a likely possibility. It makes a lot of sense, as How I Met Your Mother is already a strong launching pad that most recently helped establish 2 Broke Girls last year. Next season, the veteran comedy is expected to get extra sizzle from the fact that it is going into its final season that will finally reveal who the mother is. Plus, HIMYM and Mom will likely share sensibilities as they share the same director, Pam Fryman. As I wrote in my first early pilot buzz post, CBS brass appear very pleased with their comedy development this season, so if they pick up more multi-camera pilots, Friends With Better Lives is hot, and the Greg Garcia multi-camera pilot starring Will Arnett is coming off a solid table read. Competition is shaping to be as cutthroat on the single-camera side where CBS will likely opt for at least two shows to form a single-camera block. Greg Garcia’s Super Clyde was an early standout, with Crazy Ones boasting an in-form Robin Williams. The Bad Teacher remake and Irish American family comedy The McCarthys also seem to be in the mix, with the long-brewing Rob Greenberg pilot and Rottenberg/Zuritsky garnering positive very early buzz. 4/21: quote:Chuck Lorre’s Mom stamped its ticket to the fall schedule with a very well received taping on Friday night, so there goes the assured multi-camera CBS slot for next season, likely Mondays 8:30 PM. The Robin Williams starrer Crazy Ones looks pretty solid on the single-camera side. If CBS decides to go with multiple new multi-camera series, Friends With Better Lives and the untitled Greg Garcia project appear particularly strong (It is still early on the Tad Quill pilot starring Matthew Broderick). On the single-camera side, The McCarthys has buzz, with Ex-Men, Bad Teacher, Super Clyde and Rottenberg/Zuritsky also in the mix. 4/28: quote:CBS is once again hard to read, with many projects in contention for very few slots. Beverly Hills Cop still seems like a frontrunner, with Hostages, The Advocates and the NCIS: LA spinoff in the running and Second Sight, Intelligence, The Surgeon General, The Ordained and Backstrom in the mix. On the comedy side, Chuck Lorre’s Mom continues its march to the fall schedule. Greg Garcia has two horses in the race, a multi-camera comedy which is getting stronger buzz, and single-camera Super Clyde. On the multi-camera side, Friends With Better Lives continues to track well. On the single-camera side, the Robin Williams starrer The Crazy Ones is going strong, with the untitled Rob Greenberg in the mix, along with Bad Teacher and Rottenberg/Zuritsky. 5/2: quote:At CBS, comedy development appears to be stronger, making for a cutthroat competition. The network is expected to pick up more new half-hour series than last year, when it only ordered two — possibly around four. That still would leave strong contenders out. Chuck Lorre’s Mom is likely to get an early pickup. Greg Garcia’s multi-camera comedy has not screened yet but is believed to be a front-runner. Also very strong is younger-skewing multi-camera Friends With Better Lives. The question is whether CBS would pick up three (or more) multicamera series. On the single-camera side, the Robin Williams starrer The Crazy Ones and the untitled Rob Greenberg are getting very strong buzz. There is also a group of several other half-hour pilots that are in the mix, with one or two of them capable of pulling off an upset, including The McCarthys, Bad Teacher, Rottenberg/Zuritsky, Tad Quill and Super Clyde. The CW: 4/6: quote:CW brass seem very pleased with the Vampire Diaries planted spinoff The Originals, which is now shooting, so it appears a lock for next season’s schedule. The Originals also is a marketing dream as its three stars are established Vampire Diaries cast members who have built-in followings. Of the network’s traditional pilots, the futuristic The 100 is very hot. Also getting early buzz is the Close Encounters Of The Third Kind-esque love story Oxygen. The new Selection pilot is not a lock yet but is considered a significant improvement over last year’s pilot. The Mary Queen of Scots period piece Reign is getting points for its visuals (both The Selection and Reign are filmed in Europe — in Hungary and Ireland, respectively), while Tomorrow People has top CW producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Julie Plec (Vampire Diaries, The Origins) behind it. 4/13: quote:Will Julie Plec have three series on the air next season? Over the past week, The Tomorrow People, an adaptation of the cult British sci-fi series, has emerged as a major contender at the CW whose brass are also about to see a cut for The Vampire Diaries planted spinoff The Originals, which has enjoyed great buzz and is considered a shoo-in. Tomorrow People comes from Plec, executive producer of the already renewed Vampire Diaries and The Originals, and Greg Berlanti, who too is assured at least one series on the CW next season, the recently renewed Arrow. Another sci-fi-tinged drama, The 100, is also going strong. The royal Reign and The Selection are getting early praise for their visuals as both are filmed in Europe. (There was a production hiccup on Reign, chalked up to the long distance between Hollywood and Ireland where the pilot is filmed, which has been resolved.) But can CW pick up two projects about kings and queens? CW president Mark Pedowitz has long touted his idea for limited orders (Cult was the first series he ordered under that model). So if Reign and The Selection both pass muster, it is possible that they get limited-run orders to alternate in a “royal” time slot. With so many high-concept/fantasy/sci-fi pilots (human-alien love story Oxygen also is in the running), the “normal” Blink and Company Town look like the odd men out in the early going. 4/21: quote:The Vampire Diaries-planted spinoff The Originals appears a lock for next season, with the final validation expected this week when the spinoff episode of The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday night. (Watch the trailer below.) Julie Plec and Greg Berlanti’s Tomorrow People remake, 16th Century Reign and human-alien love story Oxygen look solid. Early frontrunner The 100 seems to have lost some steam but is still very much in contention, as is The Selection, which I hear came in OK not great. 4/28: quote:The CW already kicked off the new series pickup season on Friday with an order to The Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals. Vying to join it are two futuristic/sci-fi dramas, The Tomorrow People and The 100, and royal teen soap Reign. Just-renewed Beauty And The Beast has a potential new companion in another drama about an unlikely pair of star-crossed lovers, the human-alien romance Oxygen. For now, The Selection 2.0 seems to be following the trajectory of the original pilot unless it gets a last-minute boost. 5/2: quote:At the CW — which already ordered the Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, a pilot set in the future (the sci-fi The Tomorrow People), and one set in the past (the royal teen soap Reign), look very strong. Another futuristic drama, The 100, also is in contention, with Oxygen and The Selection also as possibilities. In the end, the CW likely will stick with programming that doesn’t stray from its brand, which I hear was the issue with the unorthodox Blink that was otherwise well received. Fox: 4/6: quote:In the past two years, Fox had a clear early comedy favorite with New Girl and The Mindy Project, respectively, both of which rode the momentum to series orders. This time around, it is a male-centered half-hour that is getting the strongest yearly buzz, the Andy Samberg-starring Mike Schur/Dan Goor cop comedy. Since the three comedy series Fox has renewed for next season all have female skew, Raising Hope and especially New Girl and The Mindy Project, the Schur/Goor project could be a potential companion for the male-centered Dads, which already has a six-episode order and is coming off a strong table read. Given its pedigree — Family Guy and American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane is executive producer — some suggest Dads may break into Fox’s Sunday animated comedy block the way Malcolm In The Middle launched behind The Simpsons. There are two other male-skewing pilots that are getting some buzz, Army-based Enlisted and dating comedy I Suck At Girls, which stars Christopher Meloni. On the female/family comedy side, Us And Them (aka Friends And Family) and To My Future Assistant are getting solid buzz, with The Gabriels also a possibility. 4/13: quote:The Andy Samberg-starring Mike Schur/Dan Goor cop comedy has kept its momentum and is rumored for a possible early series order. Another male-centered comedy, which already received an early series order, Dads, had an imperfect first taping but Fox brass continue to be bullish on the project, which will undergo some tweaks. Two other male-skewing pilots also continue to get buzz, Army-based Enlisted and dating comedy I Suck At Girls starring Christopher Meloni. On the female/family comedy side, Us And Them and To My Future Assistant are possibilities. 4/21: quote:The Andy Samberg-starring cop comedy Mike Schur/Dan Goor and light legal drama Rake remain leading contenders. Fox could go for a cop-Army male-skewing combo with the slapstick military half-hour Enlisted joining Schur/Goor. Also garnering strong buzz are the female-friendly Assistants aka To My Future Assistant and Us And Them. Guy/family multi-camera comedy Dads, which has a six-episode order, is undergoing retooling after the taping of the first episode, while dating comedy I Suck At Girls has been quiet but should be kept in consideration because of star Christopher Meloni and exec producer Bill Lawrence. 4/28: quote:No major changes in the pilot standings at Fox. Dude police/Army comedies Goor/Schur and Enlisted as well as Assistants and Friends And Family are going strong, with I Suck At Girls as a wild card. Rake, Gang Related and Human are still solid on the drama side. Sleepy Hollow and Delirium may go head to head, with Sleepy Hollow slight ahead at the moment. 5/2: quote:No major changes in the comedy pilot standings at Fox. Guy police/Army comedies Goor/Schur and Enlisted are going strong, along with romantic comedy Friends And Family and workplace Assistants, with I Suck At Girls, which has not screened, as a wild card as I hear star Chris Meloni is testing well. I hear Fox might pick up as many as five new comedies. The network already has the straight-to-series Dads, whose reworked pilot with Giovanni Ribisi has gotten thumbs-up. Rake, Gang Related, Sleepy Hollow and the Abrams-produced Human seem to be the strongest contenders on the drama side, where the network is rumored to be picking up about three new series. NBC: 4/6: quote:A surprising early drama frontrunner at NBC — the comic book-driven The Sixth Gun, which has an unconventional premise (supernatural Western, mythical guns) and had difficulty casting some of the lead roles. But it has top showrunner Carlton Cuse and a rumored $10+ million budget. NBC also seems to be going back to the well, betting on the producer who delivered its only new scripted hit this season, Revolution‘s J.J. Abrams, with his new NBC pilot, the high-concept Believe, drawing early attention. Also solid early on is the James Spader-Megan Boone starrer The Blacklist. NBC brass also appear committed to legal drama I Am Victor starring John Stamos, which experienced a behind-the-scenes clash over differences between the network and executive producers Katie Jacobs and Daniel Rappaport, who may be exiting. Also in the running is the Rand Ravich action thriller. And let’s not forget the planted Chicago Fire spinoff. 4/13: quote:The network is moving full steam ahead with the planted Chicago Fire spinoff, which is now filming and is likely to factor into NBC’s series pickup decisions. The comic book-driven The Sixth Gun, executive produced by Carlton Cuse, continues to get strong early buzz, along with the James Spader-Megan Boone starrer The Blacklist. Also in contention is the Pete Berg-directed Bloodline, the J.J. Abrams-Alfonso Cuaron Believe, the Charlize Theron-produced Hatfields & McCoys, the untitled Rand Ravich project and early pickup After Hours. Despite the behind-the-scene shakeup with executive producer Katie Jacobs exiting, legal drama I Am Victor starring John Stamos continue to have supporters at NBC. 4/21: quote:NBC seems to be looking to replicate the success of Revolution with more high-concept dramas. Rand Ravich‘s conspiracy thriller is rising fast, joining the Carlton Cuse-produced graphic novel adaptation The Sixth Gun and J.J. Abrams’ good vs. evil saga Believe as projects to watch. Also getting attention are odd-couple crime drama The Blacklist and the Pete Berg-directed Bloodline, whose concept is similar to that of Believe — both center on an young girl with a gift who is mentored/protected by an older man. Additionally, off-cycle medical drama After Hours has been heating up and has received an order for four backup scripts. It’s too early on the planted Chicago Fire spinoff, which is still filming, but it has got to be an automatic contender. 4/28: quote:NBC appears very pleased with their comedy pilots, including the pilot for the Michael J. Fox project, which already has a 22-episode order. I hear the network brass feel their half-hour development is so strong, they may bet heavily on new series and hardly keep any of the existing comedy series (besides Parks & Recreation, of course). Among the NBC comedy pilots that are hot are About A Boy, Welcome to The Family, Family Guide (D.J. Nash); Greg Daniels’ Mr. Robinson starring Craig Robinson, the Sean Hayes starrer Sean Saves the World; Assistance starring Krysten Ritter and Alfred Molina; and Bill Lawrence’s Undateable. The Gates is a wild card, with the late John Mulaney pilot garnering promising early buzz. 5/2: quote:NBC had the breakout new drama of last fall, Revolution, and now the network has what could be the strongest drama pilot this season with Blacklist. I hear Blacklist and Crisis (aka untitled Rand Ravich) are considered front-runners on the drama side at NBC, buoyed by very strong testing. In fact Blacklist might be the highest-testing drama pilot at NBC in about a decade, and I also hear the male lead played by James Spader is one of the highest-testing characters ever for producing studio Sony TV. Also in the running are the J.J. Abrams-produced Believe; TV star vehicles Ironside, with Blair Underwood, and I Am Victor, with John Stamos; as well as medical drama Night Shift (aka After Hours). Also possibilities are late deliveries The Sixth Gun and the Chicago Fire spinoff. Yoshifan823 fucked around with this message at May 5, 2013 around 06:48 |

Now, that sure is a lot of information up there, but let me break it down for you. First, some Fun Trends! To My Assistant(s): There are two different comedy pilots about the world of being an assistant. First, To My Assistant, which is based on a blog written by an actual Hollywood assistant (who is a producer on the show), and second, Assistance, which is produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. I'll let you guess which one has a better shot at being good. Based on a True Story: Another popular sitcom trend is the show based on the life of *Insert Famous Person Here*. Stars like Michael J. Fox, John Mulaney, Jessica Simpson(!), Adam Goldberg (How the Hell Am I Normal), John Leguizamo and Jim Gaffigan all have shows loosely based on their lives, either past or present. Based on a Fake Story: We also have, per ush, a bunch of shows based on books, novels and movies. In the "Based on a Movie" category, we have Bad Teacher, About a Boy and Beverly Hills Cop (which actually looks to be a sequel instead of a reimagining). Based on novels and book series, we have Delirium (Based on Lauren Oliver’s book trilogy), The Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives (Inspired by Josie Brown’s 2010 novel), The Returned (Based on a novel by Jason Mott), Backstrom (Based on the Backstrom books by Leif G.W. Persson.), Intelligence (Based on an unpublished book by John Dixon), The Hundred (Based on Alloy books by Kass Morgan), The Selection (Based on the book by Keira Cass) and Under the Dome (based on the Stephen King novel). We have a couple based on non-fiction books as well; I Suck at Girls (Based on Justin Halpern’s book, the follow-up to S*** My Dad Says.) and Anatomy of Violence (Inspired by the nonfiction book The Anatomy Of Violence: The Biological Roots Of Crime by Adrian Raine). We also have a show based on a play, the aforementioned Assistance, a show based on a classic 1960s cop drama, Ironside as well as Big Thunder, which is based on a Disneyland/Disney World ride. 2013 Imports: Every year there seems to be a show or two that started off across one of various ponds, oceans or other bodies of water, and this year is no different. From the UK, we have Friends and Family (based on the series Gavin and Stacey), The Gates, Spy, Lucky 7 (based on the series The Syndicate), Pulling, Second Sight and The Tomorrow People. We again have a few transplants from Israel, Divorce: A Love Story (based on the series Life Isn't Everything), the Untitled Rottenburg/Zuritsky Project (based on the series Mother's Day) and Hostages (based on the Israeli series). Other countries represented include Australia (Rake), The Netherlands (Betrayal) and Argentina (Killer Women, based on the series Mujeres Asesinas). Once Upon a Time (redux): With the success of Once Upon a Time, production companies are rushing to get on the "Shove Every Novel That Is Vaguely Thematically Appropriate Together, But Make It Sexy" train. Shows like Sleepy Hollow, Wonderland and Gothica (which incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray among others) are all gonna be trying for a piece of that sweet, sexy fantasy pie. The Continued Death of the Workplace Sitcom: This year, there's an even stronger focus on shows based around friends and family, leaving the treasured Workplace Sitcom out in the dust. The few shows picking up the mantle are the Untitled Dan Goor/Mike Schur Project (the cop comedy starring Andy Samberg), the Untitled Owen Ellickson/Craig Robinson Project, Bad Management, Bad Teacher, and Crazy Ones (so apparently they're all gonna be Bad or Crazy). Sci-Fi Surge: On the other hand, more than ever, networks are taking a little bit of a risk when it comes to sci-fi shows on TV. Untitled J.H. Wyman Project and S.H.I.E.L.D are two big projects on Fox and ABC respectively, and almost half of The CW's output deals with the future or aliens (or both!) What I think will get picked up: (Updated 5/9) (Bold means already picked up) ABC: ABC has been hit particularly hard by the drop all networks have been experiencing this year, and may end up in last place even with continued breadwinner Modern Family, mostly because aside from Nashville, none of their 2012 shows have really taken off. Comedy-wise, they're probably gonna go for at least one "non-family" comedy, but most of them will be homestead-based.. Drama-wise, they're looking for that sweet, sweet synergy money. Marvel, Disney, Disney World, there's a good shot that a majority of the hour-longs they pick up will be advertised out the rear end in every possible medium. Comedies: Super Fun Night, Bad Management, Adam Goldberg pilot, Divorce: A Love Story, Trophy Wife Dramas: Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D, Once Upon a Time spinoff, Big Thunder, Betrayal, The Returned, Influence, Killer Women CBS: CBS isn't gonna rock the boat a whole lot. There will probably be two or three dramas, in line with the past few years, though with the continued success of Person of Interest, they might try to extend even just a little further away from the super traditional procedural. On the comedy side, I can't imagine them not giving Crazy Ones a chance, and they'll probably pick up one other lucky single-cam show to pair it with, probably on Monday nights after HIMYM and 2 Broke Girls. And of course, a new Chuck Lorre show means they'll be making room for one more multi-cam as well. Comedies: Mom, Crazy Ones, Greg Garcia multi-cam, Friends with Better Lives Dramas: NCIS Spinoff, Beverly Hills Cop, The Advocates, Hostages The CW: Looks like The CW is continuing to pick up CW-y shows. Dramas: The Originals, The Tomorrow People, Reign, The 100, Oxygen Fox: On the comedy side, Fox has officially picked up Brooklyn 99, Enlisted, Us and Them and Surviving Jack, which join Dads as the 5 comedy pickups for the season. On the drama side, Fox has officially picked up Rake, Gang Related, Sleepy Hollow and Almost Human. In other news, I'm awesome at guessing these things so far. Comedies: Dads, Brooklyn 99, Enlisted, Us and Them, Surviving Jack Dramas: Almost Human, Rake, Gang Related, Sleepy Hollow NBC: From surprise success to dumpster fire in two months, NBC needs to pick up some miracle shows on both ends. The Voice and Football can only carry so far. Luckily, the comedy slate looks to have a whole lot of good looking shows to choose from (and there's a strong possibility that they will be choosing a lot). The drama slate... not so much. J.J. Abrams continues his lucky streak, and Rand Ravich will have another show on NBC. The Blacklist is one of the hottest pilots on the year, and of course a spinoff of one of NBC's most successful shows from last season is welcome as well, though both of those have yet to get full orders. Comedies: Michael J. Fox pilot, About a Boy, Assistance, Mr. Robinson, Sean Saves the World, Welcome to the Family, Family Guide, Undatables Dramas: The Blacklist, Believe, I Am Victor, Crisis, Chicago PD, Ironside So go talk! There's news practically every day about casting and filming and whatnot, and that will only ramp up as we get closer to May and Upfronts. Talk about how awesome it is that Michael J. Fox and Robin Williams are back! Talk about how weird it is that Dick Wolf is doing a sitcom! Please don't talk about SHIELD, there's a thread for that already. Glad to see we're on the same page vis a vis Girlfriend in a Coma. Oh, and there's absolutely 100% no way that ABC loses in the ratings against NBC. There's just no way. Also, Fox's The Following is already going the Alcatraz route of losing major ratings week-to-week, so yeah, they might need more drama orders than you claim.

Middle Age Rage sounds completely terrible. I can't believe they're remaking The Tomorrow People, I used to watch the poo poo out of that on Nickelodeon when I was younger. I believe The Returned is changing the name of the city or at least playing it down a little since it seems a little insensitive after the Aurora, CO shooting.

Yeah, their second half has been that bad. I mean, they've had the lowest-rated series premiere. Ever. Of all time. Yeah, I think The Voice (and by extension Revolution) will buoy them but I don't think it'll make up the difference needed. ABC's fall wasn't great, but they launched Nashville successfully, they launched The Neighbors successfully, and their second-season shows have done reasonably well (outside of DTTB and HE). In comparison, NBC's looking at realistically cancelling 4-5 hours of programming. This is on top of the 2 1/2 hours of programming they've already cancelled or is ending. It's been a bad, bad bad spring for NBC. Dude you should come to my ratings thread more often, we could use your perspective especially vis a vis sitcom programming.

My personal favorite news of the day: Rupert Grint in Super Clyde. Because Grint is a pretty funny dude, and Super Clyde is already one of my most anticipated, I really think this is a winning combo. Gaffigan's stand up style is really annoying. The formula is A. tell joke, b. Use silly whisper voice pretending to be audience member who didn't get it, then c. explain the punchline of the joke in different silly voice. Almost every joke. Which actually is basically exactly how most sitcoms work these days so it'll probably play fine.

News on the Day Casting News Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives) will star in the Fox drama Boomerang. Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly) will star in Girlfriend in a Coma, alongside Christina Ricci. Humphrey Ker will have a role in ABC comedy Holding Patterns. Quinn Shepard has been cast in CBS drama Hostages. Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters) has been added to the cast of Reckless, a drama for ABC. Sandrine Holt and Mateus Ward have also been added to the cast of Hostages. Krysten Ritter (Don't Trust the B****) will serve as both star and producer for NBC comedy Assistance. Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) will star opposite Robin Williams in CBS comedy Crazy Ones. Corey Reynolds has been cast in the Fox drama Delerium. Sean Patrick Thomas has been cast in The CW's The Selection, in the same role he played in the pilot for the series last year. Biggest News: I can't decide if it's Buffy doing a comedy, The Bitch being back so soon (she's too funny not to be on TV), or a Nickelodeon comedy star actually continuing a career in comedy instead of "branching out" to doing lovely teen romance movies. No wait, it's Ernie Hudson. Easily.
