Man, I realize that it would be boring if EVERYTHING went to plan, but at this point NOTHING ever goes to plan, EVERYTHING has a last-minute complication, or several, so you pretty much just keep expecting it and it has no impact whatsoever. Also, what is the point of the vent-crawling? I mean, nothing attacks you in there, there are never any branching paths, a straight corridor with no necromorphs would have served the same purpose.

Drakyn posted:To be fair, that happened in the first one too. Well yeah, I suppose it's thematic for the series, it just gets really annoyingly predictable when a game pulls it all the time. I forget if it was the original FEAR or one of the expansions which had literally every helicopter flight bar the very first or so, end in a crash, or had every helicopter shot down just before it could pick you up, etc. it just sort of became a theme that you expected.

Jump scares are pretty good at actually making me jump and making me unwilling to go down a corridor, but it has no lasting effect. As soon as I'm away from the game, I'm done being worried, more slow-burn, mood-reliant horror is the stuff that makes me twitch awake at night wondering if it's just the wind outside or something horrible and person-eating.
