I have not found a third party gallery plugin for Wordpress that I've been happy with. The default one seems to be the best that I've found. Throw in a nice lightbox plugin and it'll look pretty decent.

I was helping my dad set up his WP blog (non photo related) this morning and came across a "portfolio" option that can be enabled, would that be more in line with what you guys are looking for?

Finally got time (unemployment, woo!) to try and get a portfolio together of my own.

I just hate seeing anything go to waste.
Touchfolio is a pretty good free wordpress theme. It's totally responsive so it looks great on a desktop, tablet, or phone.

Bumping this thread since I've got a bit of a first portfolio website that I'm proud of. Designed everything myself and think the use of tags with the site name worked out pretty well. I've got it set up in chronological order with a new picture each day. Not exactly professional but it works for now since I don't have much regular internet access to do real design.

I'll get it up at my own domain when I wake up.

Get rid of the "My Best Photos" section. Makes everything else sound like trash and makes you sound like a 3rd grader.

Critiques are encouraged.

It's not immediately apparent that you need to scroll all the way to reveal more photos. The history is kind of long, too. A captcha in order to e-mail you is a step most people will roll their eyes at. Easier to use a contact box.

I'm having a problem with squarespace. Only a small issue, when sharing the url for my squarespace (through a bought domain name), the facebook preview has an old page "title" and the search tags as the description.

I've deleted all these old tags and changed the name of the page but it still comes up in the facebook preview. Is there some custom code or something i can throw in somewhere to sort this out?

I've made a huge mistake.
I have had issues with Facebook caching the information, where I've started to write a post and realised I've needed to tweak the page I'm linking to. Using the facebook debugger page seems to force Facebook to re-retrieve the information.

Remove the last dot in the link, works fine then.

I'm pretty happy with it, the responsive layout works well across all devices.

I just sat down the other night and set up a site that's a lot nicer to look at than the old tumblr template I was using before. Pretty happy with it: https://www.alexgard.com

And it was super easy to set up. Especially for a tech noob like me. Now I just need to make more content.

It's a new year, so I've refreshed my website. Culled some old photos, put up new photos and projects, changed to a new theme and did a general clean-up of the site elements as well.

I actually finished messing about with my site. Will have to do something about that domain name....

Thanks! Your Hong Kong stuff is great too! The layout is kinda irregular but I think it works to complement the nature of the photos - HK is quite a visually messy place. You'll probably want to fix your social media links as well, they're still the default addresses.

I browsed this thread and couldn't find a good answer - what are the best free/one-time cost website backends? Squarespace + Cargo Collective make great sites, but I've got decent hosting that I'm happy with and the idea of an ongoing cost for the aesthetics of my site just rubs me the wrong way.

My current site was built by me but it's a pain in the butt to update (and thus it's 2 years out of date). It's also not responsive to format/resolution, which is something I'd like to include. As I get older I just want something where I can plop new stuff, and I don't want to invest a tonne of time building/tweaking/maintaining

My office is in the front room of a run-down 12 megapixel sensor but the rent suits me and the landlord doesn't ask many questions.

4ormat is nice and their cheapest plan ends up being $5.75/month if you pay annually, Squarespace is a little better to use but $8/month. I know you don't want to pay someone a subscription but at under ten bucks a month it seems a little silly to stand on principal, especially when you seem to want the feature level of a subscription service.

Any complaints about Squarespace? I was looking at Koken and it seems cool but maybe a litte early in dev still and I can't be bothered web janitoring my photos at the moment. I really like the look of the SS Momentum theme too (as seen in whichever Dorkroomer's portfolio this is: http://www.paulfrederiksen.com/)
