At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card if it was illegitimate.

Back in October, when I was briefly employed at this (as it turned out) really unprofessional and shady medical research place, I noticed there were a LOT of stray cats around the building. One morning I came in and my boss had found a litter of kittens by the dumpster on the corner, and one of them looked NOTHING like the rest. Most were black, tux, tabby...the usual. This one stood out, for reasons that are pretty obvious.

We think a breeder in the area may have stuck her with this other litter to get rid of a "defective" kitten she wouldn't be able to sell, since she was quite cross-eyed. Otherwise, we have no clue how a Siamese ended up with this litter.

I was placed in charge of her for the day, since no one could leave to take her somewhere else, and because I was the only one that could calm her down and stop her from crying. She followed me to meetings and such all day and slept in my lap and eventually started to purr. There was no question who should take her home.

I have another cat, Tyrion, who was pretty curious about wtf I had just brought home.

But within hours, they were inseparable.

And she had to follow him around and do everything her new big brother did.

Soon she started to grow more tolerant of the new human in her life.

And decided that yes, I own this place. She was eventually named Daenerys because she was regal as gently caress but tiny and vicious when she felt like it. One day I will make her a leather vest with three plush dragons around the collar.

She learned to hunt with the best of them.

And continued to grow.

And grow.

And today Daenerys is no longer the little fluffball of anger I took home, but an elegant, inquisitive she-devil who enjoys unrolling toilet paper to watch the humans react.

But no matter how big she gets, she still loves her big brother Tyrion.

Tyrion was also a stray that I took in from the street. I was trying to capture a Calico who appeared pregnant when he came crashing out of the woods near the maintenance shed and trotted right up to my girlfriend and I, giving zero fucks about these strange humans invading his home. He grew incredibly attached to my cat Worf, who sadly died last September after developing a perforated bowel from something he ate. Tyrion was very sad for weeks after we lost Worf, and I thought getting another kitten for him would help both of us...and it did.

So, next time you're looking to get a cat, take a peek around the dumpster by your work first, or in the woods behind your home. Dumpster kittens are the best kittens.

If you've already adopted one, share your stories as well!

Epilogue to this story: The Calico I tried to get originally WAS pregnant, as it turns out. The maintenance crew at my complex took the family into the maintenance shed and left the door cracked so mom could go in and out as she pleased. I eventually helped get them adopted before the management could call county in to get them scooped up and destroyed.

Also, going by her cross-eyed expression, she's got a full dose of that Targaryen inbreeding.

I kid. She's gorgeous. Good on you for choosing to take her in, though from that second photo I think it was more a matter of her choosing you as her human and you going along with her Grace's wishes.

It's true. She just howled and tried to run away when any of my coworkers held her (all female, incidentally), but the second she was in my lap she was totally calm and quiet.

She's so pretty

Meezers are great cats. They can be stubborn, entitled jerkasses (but aren't most cats?), but they're smart and affectionate, and they'll have conversations with you.

You're making me miss Clawdia.

She's quite the conversationalist already. Tyrion picked up a lot of vocalizations from Worf, and he's passed them on to her. It's pretty cool to see those mannerisms live on in these two.

Well, her pointed coloration (not unique to the Siamese cat) is a recessive gene, so she could have had zero other pointed cats among her entire lineage and still ended up pointed. I doubt she was stuck there by a breeder.

Literally Caesar

My understanding is that cats can have kittens from multiple parents, so it's possible that one and none of the others from the litter was fathered by a Siamese or Siamese mix.

^^^ She's saying that the seal-point or 'Siamese' coloration is not actually limited to the breed. A cat with an entirely mutt ancestry can be 'Siamese' colored.

Came here to post this. When I fostered kittens, I once had a litter, all from the same mom, with two tabbies, one orange, one black and one 'Siamese' AKA pointed. I was pretty over it until I learned that seal point is a coloration/pattern and not necessarily a breed.

Still a cute rear end cat though.

He was actually super tiny when I got him, probably really underfed. Since I took him in he's gotten enormous.

That's what I think. I know color points aren't breed-specific, but she has so many other traits that indicate she does seem to have some Siamese lineage. Not by any means thinking she's a purebred, but her body type and the shape of her face with those huge ears just screams Siamese.

I don't actually disagree with the fact that she has a hint of what cat people call 'oriental' (hate that way of describing it) features. Those also aren't unique to Siamese and could be a part of normal randombred variation, would have to see the rest of the litter too (not just color) to make a slightly more educated guess.

I was really just disagreeing that a breeder stuck a kitten with a random bunch of stray/feral cats though. That doesn't really happen, they just sell them for less money.

What I think happened is that the entire litter was part *ese and that only one of them had those colors for...genetics reasons. My mom used to have a cat that was probably half Siamese: he was orange with yellow eyes, but he had a Siamese head shape, build, and voice. His siblings could have easily looked like Daenerys.

Siamese or part siamese or not siamese at all, that's a drat cute cat. You're super lucky your current cat seemed to accept her so quickly, mine would probably declare the entire apartment to be a World War combat zone if I dared bring another cat in the house, based on previous cat-sitting experiences.

Our last foster litter had a brown agouti, a cream point with some tabby striping, a longhair seal point, and a longhair grey tabby with a white belly. Both of the longhairs had classic maine coon toe tufts. These were all named after Game of Thrones characters, and Tyrion was actually the biggest one. We named the tiny one Arya, especially since she was constantly trying to climb every damned thing.

A friend of ours ended up adopting the longhair seal point, Snow, and renaming him Beau. He is amazingly fluffy.
