Out of nowhere, and now available on Steam for $14.99! Pre-purchase to get TF2 items and access to the multiplayer beta!
Goes up to $19.99 after release on Feb 26. Soundtrack version is currently $18.74.

http://www.doublefine.com/brutallegend/ promises "newly upgraded" visuals for the PC version including improved performance and more detailed visuals, and knowing Double Fine's track record, they have done it up proper.

This is probably one of my favorite 360 titles and the only one I kept when I recently sold my xbox. I had no problem immediately grabbing this. After a short 7.2gb download (about half an hour) I was in the beta! Currently the options menus are extremely limited, but BETA. Likewise the menus were slightly confused with some controller icons and some keyboard and mouse, but BETA.

Edit:
For those of you who haven't played Brutal Legend, it is primarily a third person hack n slash that introduces RTS elements part way into the game. The way it's set up seems to encourage you to stop the brawling, and start playing bad RTS. Do not do this. The game was built to be played from beginning to the end as an action brawler, and the RTS stuff does NOT mean you should sit in the back and send dudes in, but rather join the dudes you are sending in for more fighting.
This was the cause of around 70-80% of the 360 complaints, and it seems like it's the correct thing to do, so we should do our best to make sure people play it right damnit.

I really hated this game in spite of how much I wanted it to be awesome. Way too Ambitious with the things it wanted to accomplish without doing any of them really well, and a bunch of weird story decisions. The dialogue, art direction, and world design were are mindblowing.

I feel like the gameplay is garbage but I love Doublefine and wish them well in this re-release. Hopefully this means there will be more than 3 people playing the multiplayer so that will actually get some exposure.

It's about goddamn time. I understand that it didn't live up to expectations but I've still been mega eager to play this game except I never had an XBox and everyone I know who does have one weren't interested in the game. Pretty stoked.

Looks like you got a good deal there!

From what I heard this game got a lot of negative press because of how it turned into a strategy game halfway through when everyone was expecting an action brawler.

I didn't really follow the hype for the game and really like strategy games and also beat-em-ups. Will I enjoy this game? (y/n)

It's like Full Throttle with Starscraft/Disgaea/C&C type unit fighting. It's a little weird because you have to use light pillars to make rally points and the menus arn't the best for an SRPG, but they're not terrible either.

I kinda loved this game in spite of its dumb RTS gameplay. I loved everything surrounding said gameplay and the battles were functional enough to not be a hassle.

A really obvious case of story and world design above gameplay, which is unfortunate, but sometimes, if it's good enough, you can overlook a game's flaws.

It does a good job of slowly transitioning you from the beat-em-up stuff into the strategy elements. The problem is the strategy aspect of the game is clunky, with terrible controls and interface, with a really punishing difficulty swerve between difficulty settings. I can't stress how infuriating I found this game, and how much my level of caring cutoff partway through when it just goes, "ok, now it's like three years later."

If I remember how the story went, Activision dumped them in the merger with Blizzard and tried to block its release by other publishers, but since Double Fine owned the IP for Brutal Legend they were allowed to find another publisher. So yeah, they own the rights to distribute it on PC most likely. Dunno about xbox and PS3, probably still EA.

That is the best way how to describe my feelings toward this game. It's also one of the few 360 games I haven't traded away, even though I likely won't ever play it again.

Basically this game had an amazing demo and great marketing for those of us that never grew up and love metal music, but the latter half of the game is just very repetitive and not as fun as the first few hours of gameplay. But the first half or so of this game is great and worth playing. The good news is the game doesn't just throw you into an RTS game out of nowhere, but with each mission you'll see it slowly change from an action game to an RTS game and you'll wish the whole game had been like the first few missions.

You know how in Sacrifice you absolutely need to use your Wizard to win things and just letting your minions do poo poo is going to get you killed and very frustrated? Brutal Legend is exactly the same.

Basically you get your minions to attack poo poo, all the while you're buffing them with your sick guitar solos, driving over enemies in your car or beating them down with your weapons. If you try to micromanage everything from the RTS view you're going to get very frustrated and lose a lot because the game isn't really designed to be played like that.

The beat-em-up portion is pretty simple, but cool in that you can do that while at the same time ordering a ton of dudes around. Also most of the units are unique (save from a few that get retooled or change forces during the game), and theres a decent bit of strategy in what units to use to try to capture which points.

For anyone who has played Sacrifice, it is basically that gameplay-wise, except: spells replaced with a rudimentary beatemup system, the ability to fly into the air to better choose where every squad goes, the ability to drive a car into the enemies units, and the ability to team up with any of your units to do special attacks.

The art is amazing; anyone who is a fan of metal or fantasy artwork will see some obvious influences and nods, and about half the characters are straight up metal artists with nearly the same names as in real life. There's three armies, each themed around a different metal genre; Rock/Power Metal (leader voiced by Jack Black, who does a genuinely great job and has some pretty funny lines), Death/Industrial Metal (voiced by Tim Curry, who has been in literally everything because he has the best voice), and Nu Metal (voiced by Jennifer Hale, the best female VA in the games industry), theres also a hair metal army, but it's NPC only and just a reskin of the Heavy Metal one.

Having been made around the time everyone was freaking out about open world gameplay, it features plenty of that, and your opinion on it will depend on how much you like searching for collectibles and finding unique spots. The single-player story is pretty bland for a Doublefine game, and it feels very obvious that this game was made with multiplayer in mind first. That said there's plenty of amazing missions (freeing the Metalheads, and the chrome spider cave levels come to mind immediately) to keep you entertained.

The music in general is pretty great and fits well with the world, with only a few suspect choices (Mastodon).

I loving loved this game, and am absolutely going to end up buying it again despite not having a computer to run it right now, just to give DF more money.

I was playing with M + K and it was all pretty good, your 4 squad commands mapped to 1-4, tab and e to bring up menus. It's currently not very intuitive because some of the controls display the controller icons. I will try it with my wireless 360 pad and report back!

As to other comments, I think that the single player campaign is a little odd but definitely worth a playthrough. The part of this I'm really excited for is the multiplayer! This being only a $20 game means that if the scene for multiplayer is good, a decent community could spring up around it. I have only been doing AI matches so far but enjoying it!

They had a sale on the "signed by Tim Schafer" 360 version in the DF store last year and I couldn't help but order one after finally getting a 360 for my birthday in June.

It says "to Markus a.k.a. abraxas" I also love the two "Video Game Trading Cards" it came with

I love this game and I'm seriously thinking about buying it again on PC just because of the improved graphics and hopefully decent kb+m controls (not that the 360 controls were bad or anything). I also don't have Gold on my 360 so the only MP I ever did was the stuff you do in SP, so that's just another reason to dish out for this again!

Given that it turns into a strategy halfway through, I was hoping that it might actually benefit from a transition to mouse/keyboard. If they actually do a proper interface redesign rather than the lazy-rear end one most games get.

Its really not that kind of strategy game, its more like Herzog Zwei in a lot of ways. Think Airmech not Starcraft.

I'm hoping this won't have the bug that made completion impossible, or made music tracks just stop for some levels instead of replaying. Probably be fine.

It still shits me that Double Fine made the patch for the PS3 (and XBOX?) versions but weren't allowed to distribute it. I just can't understand that.

e: It also shits me that there's a good third of the game missing as well, but I don't think they'll be able to fix that one.

Iron Brigade's port was really not handled well. They did actually patch it last month (not mentioned on Steam) but it took five months for them to address networking and it still doesn't fix the stutter bug that makes the game totally unplayable in multiplayer for a lot of people.

You know, I never thought this was as good as it should've been, but lately I've been thinking more and more about going back to it, and I think a lot of my issues with the game will be made less egregious in a PC port.
