The thing with the Champions League, yeah, it's that it's all too predictable. I mean yeah loving Real Madrid got in a knockout phase but they're going to get knocked out first round like they do every year, yeah. And you know who's going to win it it's going to be Barcelona or Bayern again like the last whatever years. NOT CHELSEA THOUGH THEY'RE HERE

Pictured: Fernando Torres overjoyed to find out he returns to the competition where the world got to see his potential.

Anyway, apart from the Chels there's some other good teams in this round, like Internazionale, reigning champions Atletico Madrid, BATE Borisov, San Antonio Hotspur and many more!

You know what just take a look at all of them here:

I mean come on what better way to celebrate the return of real European football than having a sit with your SO or friends, putting on the station that actually broadcasts these fine games and have just a real good time and everything?

Nothing that's what

I'm predicting Suarez and the Zenit fans have a racism-off that ends in a glorious Liverpool victory.

We're going to lose by 1 or 2 goals tonight because lol Liverpool away in Europe.

And this despite the fact that Zenit haven't actually played football in 3 months or whatever.

Shame that the players and clubs don't care about them though.

We've had a strong squad travel, pretty much a regular first team except Sturridge and Coutinho who are ineligible. I imagine we'll mostly play a second-string team with the like of Suarez and Gerrard on the bench, until they're needed after we'll have failed to score after 70 minutes.

Conor Coady's travelled too so I hope we get to see him at least.

Don't think Hannover is gonna win in Moscow, their away form this season has been terrible. But losing by one goal is alright.

I dunno, we really having nothing to play for in the league so this is Brendan's only chance of any success this year. I think we'll start with Suarez at least, maybe with a mix of youngsters/fringe players. It's going to be an awful game though, winter in Russia mmm.

Lazio is going to find it hard to win away without Klose. Floccari has performed well in the league but it'll be interesting to see what he does in Europe (if he even plays at all). Petkovic is losing grip on the CL spot in Serie A so maybe they'll just put out a poo poo team like everyone else and hope for the best. Inter and Napoli are basically in the same position minus missing their key players. Out of all of them I would expect Inter to go through, but I wouldn't be surprised if all three of them flare out because they didn't care.

I heard it was going to be around -10, though if Liverpool's been anything like Nottingham that's not much colder than what they've had the last few days.

Doubleposting for team news

quote:

LFC team v Zenit: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Carragher, Skrtel, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling, Downing, Suarez.
LFC subs v Zenit: Jones, Coates, Lucas, Borini, Shelvey, Suso, Wisdom.

We're definitely taking this seriously. Nice to see Skrtel back in the side. Hope Sterling doesn't get abused by the crowd and does something silly.

What, like walk off the pitch in disgust and protest? If it goes down like that I expect his teammates and the manager to follow suit, and Zenit to be fined $35 by UEFA

Sadly I think he's more likely to react to the crowd, though I hope that they'd do as you say.

Sterling please follow the Boateng Model for any abuses. I think more players need to do that regardless of the consequences.

Hopefully the players have been told not to do anything stupid if there's any racist abuse. Ian Ayre wrote a letter to UEFA expressing his concerns about it, and FARE are sending an observer to the match.

After Shakhtar's performance last night I think we can assume Zenit will run out of steam in the second half.

edit: This pitch is pretty bad, but I'm not sure whether that helps or hinders Suarez's magic feet.

edit again: Oh ffs Suarez take it early
