He never asked for the Valentines surprise. Does the Olympic committees ever strip medals from winners after theyve committed serious crimes?

So the "thought she was a burglar" thing was just the 24 hour news cycle taking up any old rumour and running with it? This is what news is now, isn't it. Just whatever sounds best on twitter put into an article. Oh, it's ok, we'll change it later when more facts come out. Got to be first to report!

Probably because it's the same pool of journalistic talent either way, and it's all they know now. They don't want to appear "behind". It would take a serious philosophy shift in the BBC's News24 and Online News divisions to move away from what the industry standard style. This isn't helped by, when the BBC does wait before publishing, which happens occasionally presumably for fact-checking, people ask why they don't have anything on it yet.

Pretty much Flat Earth News. They probably all got the transcript off the one place (no doubt Press Association), run with that, then don't bother fact checking until much later. By that time it doesn't really matter.

Because they can still get their budgets cut. Someone, somewhere, still decides how much of the funding goes where so the news still has to compete because the people deciding where the money goes aren't the types to say "gently caress ratings, take what you need."

If my girlfriend came into my house at 4 am, I'd probably think she were an intruder and I might pull out my gun. But I wouldn't just start loving popping caps at shadows. Then again, I might in South Africa.

This situation is getting more and more hosed up the more information that is coming out. It will be an interesting milestone when it comes to celebrity crimes, since a local pop star Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye was recently sentenced to 25 years for killing four school children while drag racing. Jub Jub is hardly a national hero in comparison to Pistorius but there was still the usual media furore over that case because it was a big name.
