I sold my original copy of the game after I bet it for short-term money reasons but I am not above buying it again in this form, but I would prefer a physical copy (given that it seems digital copies won't persist into the next generation).

Online only.

Two new decent-sized chapters in re-used maps and a shitload of VR missions.

Well, I have a bunch of credit I have at Gamestop that I could turn into PSN money and use for this. Or I could buy Resident Evil revelations. Choices, choices...

Yeah I'd say 1-2 hours for each DLC and then maybe another hour or so if you want to do all of the vr missions for them. Much less if you play on easier modes.

It's a game to be replayed though that has never changed.

I've never done game sharing before, and I don't know if I care enough about it to start now, unless the DLC stuff is just awesome as gently caress. I liked the game, but as far as games I'm going to play over and over again I prefer Bayonetta.

STARE

Has anyone else noticed an increase in slowdown after the latest 360 patch? I noticed it in some spots in Bladewolf and assumed it was just a problem with the DLC, but I started a new file the other day and even the main campaign is getting some horrendous slowdown in spots I don'r remember slowing down. Denver in particular has just chugged in certain spots.

Apparently the title updates hosed it up somehow so it's probably better to just delete it and play offline once you're done with the DLC since I doubt the updates actually add anything to the main game.

I hate myself, so I decided to attempt S-ranking the game on Revengeance difficulty. I'm at the start of chapter 5 and things have gone for the most part surprisingly smoothly so far thanks to Wig B.

But gently caress Monsoon and Body Double Monsoon straight to hell. Those fights, and the first GRAD fight in chapter 4, have easily compromised half my play time on this difficulty.

But I can see Armstrong and Sam being equally difficult.

Sam is actually pretty easy due to Parry Counters, I got the S on him by mistake.
Armstrong isn't so rosy, but it's not too bad if you have save back ups and restart if you get hit in phase 2. Just ensure you have medigel equipped.
EXCELSUS is kind of annoying to S rank because you need to get some Zandatsu's against the Gekko

Sometimes it's actually easier, in certain parts of the game, to go for full scores on time/combo/zandatsu rather than trying to No Damage the segment. (This is actually what I did for ALL the fights you mentioned having trouble with, they were just too much of a pain in the rear end to No Damage for me.)

This is kinda cheesy, but a good way to ramp your combo up to the max level quickly (assuming you're using Wig B, which you appear to be) is to wait until a phase where your target is in a "stunned" state and proceed to:

1) Activate Ripper Mode

aaaaand....

2) IMMEDIATELY go into Blade Mode and keep slashing away.

(EDIT: I'm not certain this works on update version 4, you'll just have to try it out.)

This takes advantage of that little "slowdown" effect that happens when you start up Ripper Mode and appears to multiply it by the slowdown Blade Mode gives you, allowing you to slash away with impunity for long enough to easily score 100-150 hits (depending how long the stun you're working with is). This makes the final Armstrong fight much easier.

Really the bosses you'll have trouble with are the ones that you don't receive much/any benefit from the crazy-amped-up Perfect Parry damage. You'll get through it- I had a harder time Gold-ing all of the VR missions

God... No kidding. VR 18 took me forever. I've tried VR 19... That is going to stonewall me even worse.

I was terrified when I fought Sundowner that I would somehow gently caress up and not get an S rank, and have to go through that loving lobby fight again. I would have lost my mind.

Thanks for the tips going forward though.

VR19 isn't ultimately that horrible all things considering: you can just mash T/Y with pincer blades equiped right as the mission starts to stun the first Fenrir and then finish it off before it can do anything.

For the heavy and custom cyborgs, keep hitting the customs with charged pincer attacks until you destroy some of their armor and then stun them with a parry counter and finish them off and then take out the heavy cyborgs the same way as in VR18.

The final room with multiple Fenrirs can be kinda difficult, but you can stunlock them with repeated stingers and doing a full pincer blade combo on one of them stuns them instantly: the hardest part is actually successfully performing a Zandatsu on each one since they're such small targets and move around a lot.

EDDryden
Jan 31, 2013

^Be careful using charged attacks with the pincers if you use that strategy, since they cut limbs off. I had an Armored Cyborg disappear on me on my first attempt because of that

e: The sweep kick is pretty great for positioning Fenrirs for Zandatsus

So I made it to Armstrong. In phase 2 all you can really do is dodge around, but at the end, when he knocks you down for punch combo time, you take some damage. I've read in a few places it's unavoidable, but I've seen a video where a guy doesn't take damage.

So, does taking damage at the end of this phase count towards the no damage bonus?

It sure does!

If you prevent yourself from being hit for about 2 minutes, Armstrong will charge up an unblockable, unavoidable shockwave that does no damage and kicks off the next phase of the fight. Yes, it is stupid.

Also, if you take a hit during that phase, it will still count against the achievement/bonus even if you restart from checkpoint. Yes, that is also stupid.

Only if he kills you in phase 2, ie You go to the game over screen.
Health packs make it so that doesn't happen so if he hits you, immediately restart.

There is an easy way to do VR19. First, zandatsu the first Fenrir, then jump off the map (you can do that right before the wall that opens up the second part of the mission). You will respawn and be invincible. It doesn't work unless you patch the game to its newest version, I think. Definitely did not work on 1.0.

Man, the Wolf DLC was... not very good. He had practically no combos to speak of, lovely platforming segments, a boss not deserving of his theme... and yet, it was all worth it for the very end. The tail wag was incarnate.

You cut the shields in a straight line. If you get that right, it prompts you to go into blade mode again, where you can cut the arms of the shield off. It took me a while to notice them too, since they kind of blend in with the background.

Yeah, the little arms that hold the six parts of the shield are Blade-Mode-able after you do the straight line slice either horizontally or vertically. Just make sure you don't hit any other parts of the shield or you'll blow yourself up and not cut anything.

Alternately, just circle around and beat the hell out of him from behind and parry his backwards shield swipes, he has a ridiculously low amount of health.

Probably the same thing as me. You line the cuts up, then release the stick and it wiggles just a teensy little bit and boom, explosion. I cut his shield maybe one in four times.

notZaar

If your cuts are missing that often, you might have a bum joystick friend, sorry to say. That "aim & release" method should work almost all the time.

Alteisen
Jun 4, 2007

Oh gently caress I hope not, I really don't have the money to replace my controller.

But yea I'd line up the cuts but still get exploded, I also had a ton of problems slicing off the little shield arms as I'd hit the big parts instead and get blown up again, I ended up using 7 out of my 10 nano paste which has never happened before.

You don't need to cut them at all, just dodge them before they hit you instead and just whale away on him the entire time

Now if only I could reliably get armstrong to even start throwing debris...

Just picked up the Bladewolf DLC today. Not quite what I was expecting, but I kind of like it. The platforming is a bit dumb, though.

Really wish the DLC stories had split up chapters though, so I could hop in and out and between them without having to commit to a full 1-2 hours.
