And to the Cold War people, if this happened a few decades ago how likely would this have triggered WWIII? 100% certainty? I know Russia's safety protocols were always much laxer than ours; they didn't need to phone the Kremlin like our guys would need to call the President.

The Tunguska blast has been mentioned, but there was a similar event in Egypt thousands of years ago. The explosion was so hot that it instantly turned the sand into glass. It was only discovered when someone took a closer look at some of the stones used in jewelry of the ancient Pharaohs.

There was a pretty cool documentary about it some years ago.

Pretty much this. Meteors are stupidly fast and pretty small, all things considered. By the time you realize they're there, they already blew up.

Not the incoming event of the meteor, but the resulting blast is what I think people are wondering if it would cause a panic. How long would it have taken the Russian government to confirm it was a meteor explosion and not an act of aggression from a foreign nation? I think that's the core of what people are trying to get at.

Whilst this is true as far as the Government and Military go, it's this sort of rare event that during early wars would cause rampant rumor about things like sound weapons/weather control devices and all manner of other weird and wonderful weaponry from the minds of everyday civvies.

The Soviets actually did have to report back to the Kremlin during alerts of launches. The Dead Hand only came into the play if Moscow was glassed.

Yeah the videos are like a scary real world version of the mario cart games and Russia is also notorious for having really deadly poorly maintained roads in the more remote regions.

Some of the roads are so poorly maintained that they turned into the famous muddy messes that also helped slow down the Blitzkrieg in World War II and it turns Max Max with people getting stuck for days before someone helps them out.

Russian drivers are loving crazy. Like, crazier than American drivers. Take the worst drivers you can imagine, Flordians, for example, and multiply that by like five and you begin to approach the level of insanity that is experienced on busy Russian roads. One thing taken for granted in the United States and Europe is traffic policing, something that is lacking in Russia given the amount of corruption and general incompetence on the part of Russian police forces.

I wonder about licences too.

How hard is it to just PAY for one?

A friend of mine in the UK went to the Czech republic for a holiday and paid for a EU licence, because she could drive in Australia (expired), and getting one in UK was like a massive time burglar. Drop cash = Get Licence.

Is that maybe how it goes in Russia?...but maybe you dont have to even know how to drive?

(This would also relate to how many manual and auto transmission cars there are..Autos are just go-carts, super easy to learn)

Yeah, it's basically the same explanation as for why meteors mysteriously hit places with people nearby: They don't, we just don't realize it when there's no one around to see/film them. That being said, Russia being a bit of a mess probably also makes people drive a bit crazier.
