This is me:![]() Stats- Age: 22 Sex: Male Hight: 6'0" Weight: 134 lb (2/15/13) I am a 22 year old Computer Engineering (With focus on Game Design) student from Lakeland, Florida. When I was about 12 years old I started to develop acid reflux that caused a few problems, I would get sick before school, if I ate to early or too spicy of foods. That was only a precursor of what developed a few years later. Starting the summer after my Freshman year of High School, almost every time I ate I would throw up. It got to the point where if I even smelled food it would cause me pain. After a year or so of different tests, I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis. Basically it means my stomach doesn't empty fast enough, and that causes most of the problems listed above. It's due to this condition that I have been slightly underweight for the past 6 to 8 years, though I haven't really tried very hard to gain weight. My apathy towards my weight changed last December, when I had my first Panic Attack. I'm still not sure why they started, but over the past year I have gone through hell and back and have made huge progress. I cut caffeine out of my diet completely. My Gastroparesis has also taken a major turn for the better, thanks to a slightly better diet. Before now, I have been slightly wary of too much exercise without being able to at least maintain my weight. However, I feel like I am at the point where I can start making progress on my weight, and I thought there was no where better to go than the YLLS forum. I am totally new to this kind of thing, but I am willing to give it a try. Here are my goals, for now. GOALS: - To properly learn and keep track of good diet. (I understand that this was listed as a "Bad" goal, but for me it is a necessity. - To have Kept well documented logs of said diet, to be reviewed at six month mark. - This is my Fitocracy account: https://www.fitocracy.com/profile/Tsimp91/ Oh, and one more thing: I am so very not prepared for this. My stuff for today so far: Crunch: - 50 reps - 25 reps - I can really tell how out of shape I am, because I felt these a lot. (Started counting only after it started to burn.) Push-Up: - 10 reps - 5 reps - Felt these too. Dumbbell Bicep Curl: - 5 lb x 25 reps Running: - 0:30:48 || 2 mi || flat - I don't think I've ever run two miles before. It started out as a .15 mi job, then I wanted to try for .25, then .5, then 1 mi, I felt so good I kept going until I hit 2 miles. I did this inside my house, around all of the rooms in a large figure 8 pattern. Seated Dumbbell Shoulder Press: - 5 lb x 15 reps fito2sa I'm not sure how great this workout is going to be, but it is one at least. It was considered a bad toxx, never a bad goal ![]() The only thing you need to have prepared is your mind. Good luck, have fun, don't die.

Seeing your picture I am reminded of my teenage self. I was 6'3" and had ribs you could play like a xylophone... Luckily working out and eating well has changed that for the better, so hopefully it will have the same effect on you! Do you have any particular plans in regard for a workout regimen or are you going to keep things simple and work on your diet first? Also, for logging your diet I recommend Cronometer. It is free, available wherever you have an internet connection and can be adapted to your needs.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! I don't have any plans at all for workout regimen yet, I still don't know too much about it. I have been reading around though, any advice you can give is welcome! Cronometer looks like it will help a lot. (Especally the app)

You should lift heavy. By that I mean start out doing light warmup sets, to get all loose and whatnot, and then do 3 heavy sets of 8 reps. The weight should be heavy enough that you can only do 8-10 reps before your form gets messed up. Try pyramid sets too. Say your doing a chest machine, and you've done a set of 8-10. Now do a set of a heavier weight, only doing 5-6 reps before failure. Then after that increase the weight again, and do what you can. I did pyramid sets all the time when I started seriously lifting, and they really helped me put on weight and muscle. I used to be about 6'2 140 pounds, so maybe it'll work good for you too.

You need to eat everything and do Starting Strength. You will get big and strong and hungry. Eat meat, drink milk.

Eating will be the hardest part, even once you start pushing your limits in the gym (which you should start doing immediately.) Lifting will help though, as it will make you hungry. As moist said, if you're able to drink cows milk, you should. In really large quantities. And also get used to being full all day, every day. Good luck getting big

Woah hello me from 2009. I never had any diagnosis but I also used to vomit a lot after eating food and I would experience acid reflux which progressed to literally every morning when I was around 17-18. It'd gently caress up my sleep in a big way as well which was really cool. Thankfully my stomach problems didn't progress to the degree yours did before I got to bulking around 19. My advice 2 u would be to eat what you can, be willing to push the limits a little bit, but don't expect yourself to be able to handle huge amounts of food in a day. Try your best to consistently not vomit. Find foods that work for you and slowly increase what you can consume. My stomach problems really turned a corner when I was able to stop puking all the loving time and now I'm able to eat without problems and my pain is gone. Hopefully it'll work out the same for you! I'll be rooting for you man

Eat Meat. Drink Milk.![]() You guys are right, eating will be the hardest part for me. I do have an advantage in that I am used to eating many small meals throughout the day, so I can slowly increase the amount per meal and I think I can get away with it. Milk shouldn't be a problem. For awhile I drank those shakes to help keep my weight up after being in hospital last year. Would that help as well, because they don't taste bad! As far as exercise goes I am still using what I have, which are pitiful 5 lb dumbbells and my body. I am looking into getting some weights, perhaps my own bench and stuff, as starting strength looks like a good program for me. In the mean time I am doing sitting dumbbell shoulder press, dumbbell bicep curl, push-ups, and crunches. I did lots of med-lifting yard work today, while being sore from yesterday still. Fell asleep after-words but I have to say so far I feel great. I am at 136 lb today(feb 16). So far so good. Thanks again for the advice.

All that eating without lifting heavy weights might just make you skinny fat, so beware. Its awesome that you want to buy your own weights, I wish I would of invested in some decent gear instead of getting a 3 year gym membership. Craigslist might have some cheap stuff on there, weight sets show up on my local CL all the time. Also, drink lots of whey protein.

Yeah you're going to need a barbell and 300-400lbs of plates to do Starting Strength properly. If a gym membership isn't possible then yeah, you'll have to buy weights and a power rack (which I'd recommend over a bench). Hold off on the heavy eating until you have access to the right equipment or you'll mostly get fat.

Sounds good, Any idea what kind of things I could use/do while I'm looking into benches and things?

Hey fellow hosed up digestive system twink. Eating enough will be the hardest part, shakes are an awesome way to add protein and calories to your diet. For food logging as well as tracking calories track what foods your system handles and what causes bad reactions. Lifting heavy is the way to go and lots of goons have bulked up considerably eating a lot and lifting heavy weights. While you're shopping for a gym or weights look at a body weight program like Convict Conditioning or Never Gymless. Another more home-based option is barbell complexes - Shine Complex Post

So I've been doing workouts every day now, and it feels GOOD. I am already starting to see progress on what I can do before I tire. I'm trying not to push myself too hard, though. Had a bit of blood in my poop yesterday, I assume from hemorrhoids or something since I've starting working out after so much time being unfit. None since then though, and it was bright and I haven't had any real pain besides the normal burn and stuff, but even that has begun to fade. I got a 10 pound set of dumbbells today from my friend, and he has a nice home gym he doesn't use anymore because he has passed it's max weight, I will be getting that soon. I have been drinking mostly water and herbal tea. I had a root beer today and regretted it later. My workout today: Push-Up: - 10 reps - 15 reps Plank: - 30 sec Dumbbell Bicep Curl: - 5 lb x 30 reps - 10 lb x 10 reps Seated Dumbbell Shoulder Press: - 5 lb x 25 reps - 10 lb x 10 reps Running: - 0:07:11 || 0.5 mi || flat Pull-Up: - 10 reps Standing Dumbbell Reverse Curl: - 10 lb x 10 reps fito2sa PS. I got my hair cut! It makes bathing and working out so much easier! From: ![]() To: ![]() I donated it to locks of love, they make hairpieces for children with diseases that cause long term hair loss. All in all, feels good.

I feel great! I have been working out every day, many days I forget to log on fitocracy, but I always remember to exercise. I am still doing mostly bodyweight and dumbbell exercises, but I have also been doing massive amounts of housework and yard work(mostly heavy lifting). I can feel myself getting stronger as well as more energetic. I clocked in today at just over 140 pounds, wearing nothing but thin pajama pants, that's a gain of 6 pounds in less than a month! If I keep this up, I will have to up my goal! I am still working on getting some heavy weights and should be getting them within a couple of weeks! I should really start to practice my fist spell... Edit: Heres a pic for archive purposes.

So, update time! My life has been pretty hectic lately, in a very good way. I have been keeping up the exercise and diet, tho I did lose a pound or so because I was sick for two weeks and couldn't eat much besides mushy soup and things. I feel great, and I think I am stronger than ever! I have been getting out a lot as well, so that feels great! I am moving out of my parents place and into an apartment in Tampa in the fall, which I am pretty excited about. All in all, if I keep up with what I have been doing, I should have no problem reaching my goal and more. Edit: poo poo guys, also I have a girlfriend now.
