Once of my earliest memories is having nachos with olives on them and puking my guts out afterwards. Nowadays, I love them. I make a habit of trying every food that I hate at least once a year, just to see if my taste buds have changed. So far it's been olives, mushrooms, and mussels that I used to hate, but now like. Liverwurst and that weird cheese that smells like my feet..maybe next year.

When I was little, my mom applied her food dislikes to stuff I ate, so she had me convinced I didn't like things that I didn't even really try. Mainly, I "didn't like" eggs, or steak that was anything less than well done. I always wondered why people talked about a good steak as one of the best meals, because to me it was always tough and bland. Finally when I was 18 I got a medium rare steak at a steakhouse and everything changed. I didn't eat eggs until I started dating my wife. Of course, she's now developed an egg allergy and she can't have them anymore so I don't even buy them, but I used to make us eggs for breakfast every weekend. Also, raw onion.

I've gone from hating bacon, to only hating it around 80% of the time. So there's that.

Green/red bell peppers - I used to not like them (wouldn't say hate necessarily) but now I love the flavor. Whether it's stuffed peppers, sliced on pizza, or just having them raw with veggie dip, they're awesome. Same with sauerkraut - didn't like its tangy bitterness when I was younger, now I won't eat bratwurst, polish sausage or kielbasa without a nice helping of it.

Before moving out to the West coast I hated eggs and onions with a burning intensity. Now they're two of my favourite things to eat ever. I have no idea how that happened...

I used to "hate" a lot of food when I was a kid because my mom's cooking was so bland and uninteresting that I just wouldn't try anything "weird". So I hated bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, onions, brussel sprouts, non-white-meat chicken, etc. Then I became an adult and now I like all foods and I really love bell peppers, especially red bell peppers which I eat raw or on salads a lot. And I think white meat chicken is gross but dark meat is the poo poo. The only food I won't eat now is onions. gently caress onions!!

I used to hate green olives until my family decided to stop by this place called the Olive Pit on our way down to Disneyland one year. Spiced olives. Olives stuffed with blue cheese, jalepenos, garlic cloves. I love green olives now. This is probably pretty common, but I hated coffee in anything but mochas and sweetened lattes until my freshman year of college. Then I realized how much cheaper it would be to drink regular coffee, so I weaned myself off of the sweet stuff by asking for less and less syrup each time. By my sophomore year I was drinking multiple pots of too-strong black coffee every day.

When I was young, for about the first 10 years, my diet was basically plain Rice, French Fries, Bakery including Peanut Butter sandwiches, Candy and Coke. That's it. It took great effort for my parents to convince me to even try omeletes or a fish burger. Not pizza, not many things that kids supposedly love, nada. Thankfully I've grown since then and love a good number of foods.

Fats of any kind. When I was a kid I'd get nauseous just thinking about bacon or egg yolks or rich cheeses. I chalk this up to my parents being giant hippies and raising us as vegans for a long time. They eventually gave that up and I can eat fatty foods now, but I'm happy overall because they're still not my favorites (gently caress FOREVER fat lumps on steak. I know that's heresy but that stuff is gross).

Tomato used to freak me out. Now I actually like it, and poach it from my mother's salads. Also, I used to hate wasabi on my sushi, and spicy foods in general. Now I pile wasabi on like crazy, until I'm sweating. It's great for clearing out your sinuses.

I used to think all cheese was like American cheese when I was a kid: bland, overly processed, pre-sliced pieces of plastic. Then somewhere during adolescence I discovered real cheese like brie and sharp cheddar and never looked back. I will probably get a lot of comments on this, but believe it or not I could not stand pizza of any type. Surprise, surprise, it was because all I ever had was nasty Pizza Hut pizza or those frozen ones you get at the store. Not to mention those awful "pizza" abominations from elementary school. Local pizza joints are where it's at, even better if it's wood-fired with a crispy crust and piled high with veggies

Sauerkraut was one of those foods that I hated, but every two years or so I would try eating "just in case it would be different." Of course, it never was. Then one day the German club at my college was selling bratwursts as a fundraiser. As I purchased one, the professor told me to try it with the sauerkraut. I declined, saying "I don't like it." She said "This is GOOD sauerkraut, like they have in Germany!" I refused again. She continued the hard sell. This went back and forth until finally I said "Fine, I'll try the drat sauerkraut." And she was right, it did taste delicious. Now I love the stuff. I even tried making my own at home, but the brine wasn't salty enough and I just wound up with a pot of moldy cabbage.

I didn't sandwiches until I was 13, and then I didn't have anything but meat on them until I was 15 or so. I used to like medium rare steak, but then I tried well done and I liked it a lot more. Not only did it taste better, it lacked that "blood" taste of rare steak.

I used to hate Caesar salad, but then a few years ago I got one when a restaurant screwed up a take-out order and decided to eat it anyway. Caesar is my favorite kind now. Most likely I was just a stubborn kid and made myself hate it because sometimes meals came with that instead of chef's, and that's not what I wanted!

When I was a kid, I wanted to be just like my Aunt Sue. She hated tomatoes, eggs and onions, so I hated tomatoes, eggs and onions. I even told my kindergarten teacher I was allergic to them. My parents made me eat them anyway, and I'm glad they did. They're staple foods for me now, and I love their versatility. I thought I hated a lot of other vegetables, but it turns out I just hated the frozen or canned versions of them. Still can't stand lima beans or hominy though. Something about the texture is kryptonite to me.

Definitely oysters for me. I remember being younger and watching my mom eat them all the time and getting totally disgusted. Now I can't get enough. Raw, baked...I can seriously eat a world record of oysters. So good.

Mozzarella cheese. I used to find it disgusting but nowadays I downright inhale the stuff, especially together with some fresh tomatoes. Also coffee, I guess. I'm still waiting for something similar to happen with asparagus, as everybody around me is always telling me I'll come to like it some day. Whenever the season comes around all I can do is sit there during dinner while everybody else is fawning about how great this batch is and how I'm missing out.

Spicy food over here. I would refuse to eat anything if I could even smell Tabasco sauce. My mom taught my brother and I not to swear using hot sauce and it scared us off the stuff until we were in our 20's. Now I am all over most southeast Asian cuisine because I love how spicy it is.

Mustard, mayo and onions-- they'd always be over-applied and the taste would overpower whatever they were on. They're so tasty in moderation. Onions are great finely chopped, but I still don't like biting into something and ending up with a mouthful of raw onion. My mom doesn't like bell peppers so as an impressionable young child I decided I didn't like peppers either, until I tried some grilled ones at a barbeque in an attempt not to be rude. Delicious. They're great drizzled with olive oil and roasted in the oven. I didn't used to like Mexican food either, but I'm from the east coast which is sorely lacking in authentic Mexican food. Now I live in Texas and the Mexican (Tex-Mex) food actually tastes good.

I used to hate carbonated beverages. I just didn't like the sting. I know a lot of people are like this as little kids, but for me this lasted into my mid-teens. I loved the taste of root beer and colas, but I would purposefully let them go flat before drinking because I hated the carbonation. I don't know where I ended up turning the corner on them. I think it was going to college and eating out much more frequently, where there's just so much more soda on offer. I got used to it and now I really enjoy it.

Carrot soup, my mother used to make me eat it and I hated it with so much passion. Nowadays I realize it's one of the most delicious things in the world, drat. Edit: Also black coffee. Onions. Growing up, my mother was incapable of cooking onions whatsoever. So instead of going nice and soft, every dish had crunchy, undercooked onions in. Couldn't understand why anybody would like them at all, and then one day I was exposed to caramelized onions and feta.

The enzymes that causes you to cry when cutting onion breaks down when cooked and releases complex flavors within the onion, so the more pungent an onion is the sweeter and complex it's flavor will be when caramelized. ![]() I always liked raw red onions, though. I still don't like carrots, but I can eat them once they've been cooking in a stew for hours.

Hot sauce. Not the spicy flavorful stuff, but the lovely kind of hot sauce that serves no purpose other than to make your food taste of vinegar. Then Cajun Chef came into my life. Desperado Bones posted:(I like mayo, but not like that.) I dislike mayo quite a lot, but I make exceptions for burgers and po-boys. Although, if I can, I often substitute anything requiring mayo with sour cream. Makes a hell of a tuna salad.

Hot sauce. Except the other kind that sort of flavors your food. I'm not sure why I inherently hated all hot sauce. Lettuce too. I actually disliked it because of the lack of flavor. Now I like it because hamburgers feel so squashy and "flat" without it. One thing I really wish I could get into is pickles and onions. Onions I went from zero-tolerance to some, so I consider that a half victory. Before I couldn't have any amount of them. Now I can still enjoy most things even if they're covered with a bit of onions. But i'll still avoid them if possible. Pickles though. I really can't get into those for some reason. I wish I'd end up liking them but just the thought of me eating them makes me want to gag.

I still have that slight aversion to mayonnaise because I just can't shake my childhood notion of it being made out of lard. Another thing I avoided for a long time was deviled eggs. They always tasted pretty flavorless to me as a kid, but slap some garlic, sour cream, red onion, chives and Cajun Chef on it, and them's some good eats. I'll never understand the hatred of onions. They're the best thing ever to me. I'll probably never touch a slimy food that isn't a tomato as long as I'm living, though. gently caress okra, oysters, half-cooked eggs, all of that. Eurgh.
