Behold the cuteness.

Howdy.

This is my second log in TFLC. The first log can be found here and ran from June 2012-Octoberish 2012. In that time period I lost 20 lbs, realized I could run a 5k without walking in a non-sad amount of time and generally felt extremely good about myself.

After I completed my toxx my body decided to poop out and I was sick with some sort of walking pneumonia for over a month and lost my stride. Then I got a nasty cold over the holidays.

Anyway, I've decided its high time for a new log with even more ambitious goals! Why? Because I want to be in great physical shape. I'm getting married on the beach in the Bahamas in early 2014. I'm applying for a job this year with a rigorous physical requirement and want to be confident and performing at my best. The list goes on and its all good.

So let's begin shall we?

Height: 5'0" (Did I mention my towering and intimidating height?)
Sex: Of the common ladyparts variety
Age: 24

Measurements (02/19/13)
Weight: 145 lbs
Bust: 38"
Waist: 30"
Hips: 41"
Right Thigh: 25"
Right Calf: 16"
Right Bicep: 12"

Pictures (Taken a few weeks ago as of 02/19/13 but still relevant since I haven't really done poo poo since then)

The first pictures from July 2012

Bonus pic of cute dress that now fits!

The Plan

Foods~
-Between 1200-1500 calories a day, keeping protein and carbs around 100g
-Log the good eats here and on MyFitnessPal. Come be my friend there, I GET LONELY

Exercise~
-Lift 3 times a week, following the Intermediate Stumptuous Full Body workout (ALL THE SQUATS)
-Run 2-3 times a week, alternating between distance and HIIT treadmill work since I live in the cold winter tundra and gently caress running on ice
-Log exercise in this thread

~GOALS~
Now the fun part

TOXX GOALS
-Run in a 5k this summer (no later than the end of August), specific race to be determined in a few months (Gonna run with a friend and gotta plan which works for both of us)
-Squat 135 lbs by May 1st COMPLETED 04/14/2013
-Bench 85 lbs by May 1st COMPLETED 04/27/13

~Fitness Goals~
-Decrease my running mile time to under 10 minutes
-Run 1.5 miles in 13 minutes
-Lose 2" in my waist

~Other Goals~
-Write at least 1000 words a day for my self publishing adventure

YAY! I'm a little worried my lifting goals are too ambitious but that's what makes it fun

And bonus picture of Curious George my Tiger Oscar being curious and wondering if I have tasty things for him:

I don't think they are too ambitious.

I got to a 140lb squat in 2 months without really trying too hard so . Bench will take longer than squat to reach because generally females have weaker upper body, but I still think it's doable

Oh good! I'm glad to hear that. Yeah, the one I'm most worried about is the bench press goal...But I guess we'll see.

Anyway, update time!

I went to the gym to run today and somehow managed to embarrassingly pull my groin muscles on both sides. I really don't understand how I managed that...but there it is. As a result I didn't get as far as I wanted because of the pain and even as I sit here typing it hurts like hell.

So I 'ran' 1.6 miles in 22 minutes. I spent about half that time running and the other half trying to walk the pain off and keep it from going stiff. Neato.

A pretty lunch picture:

Two fried eggs, three chicken sausage links, Mrs. Renfro's jalapeno salsa (heaven in a jar), a tomato and some green onion. Absolutely delicious and came in at 380 calories 8/22/32 c/f/p.

Food totals for the day:

A little worse for dinner than I would have liked but I'm going to work on that. Hopefully tomorrow my crotch muscles will decide they are fine and I can go lift. Otherwise I'll just make sure to work on arm and core stuff and try to avoid anything that will anger them

~Wednesday, 02/20/13 Update~

I obviously angered the crotch gods because my inner muscles still hurt today. So I went the upper body kettlebell workout today. I apologize in advance for crappy phone pics.

Driving Story of the Day~
A man in a car in front of me stopped his vehicle while we were waiting at a red light and suddenly opened the door and leaned out, facing the ground. I was a little confused, but I shrugged it off...maybe he had been hearing rattling noises or had his seatbelt caught or something. I didn't really care. We both end up turning right at the light before taking another right onto a small road which led to a larger gas station. Suddenly he stops his car in the middle of the road, the door flies open and just as I'm wondering 'what the hell?' he proceeds to everywhere. Literally rivers of orange junk. I went from to and whelp. I ended up parked at the gas station and get out of my car, and he looks up long enough to make eye contact with me across the road. Yeah buddy, that sucks.

Foods:

My man dude made some super yummy fried rice that was incredibly tasty and super filling:

Thursday 02/22/13 Update

Ugh, had to take my car in for a recalled part and hijinks ensued. Ended up running around town all day. Also still have a super sore pulled muscle. Talked to my nurse friend who insisted I stay off of it for a week. So this week is week of the upper body workouts I guess.

STUPID GYM STORY~

I met my SO at the gym to workout after he was done with work and it was packed with dudes in the weight lifting area, which pretty much meant I couldn't get a bar to do anything. So I was doing overhead presses with dumbbells kind of like variation #2 on Stumptuous, except standing. When I finished this guy came up to me and was just like: "You want to get those more like this"

Then he goes on to say I was using too much weight and how I'm a woman so I should be doing less weight and more reps to "you know...lose weight and tone, right?"

I just smiled, looked him in the eye, and said "Nope."

His eyes got huge and his jaw practically dropped and for some reason he got all excited and started trying to talk to me about how he just bought protein and plans to bulk and wants to get to 245 lbs, yadda yadda. I somehow managed to extract myself from that weird conversation (which my SO thought was hilarious because he was sitting RIGHT THERE resting in between sets) and finished off my stuff for the day.

They are cheese curds that have been beer battered and deep fried. They are my weakness and SO DELICIOUS.
I met my SO for lunch yesterday and was trying to order healthy...then he ordered cheese curds and I couldn't resist having a couple.

In other news I'm going to try using the stair stepper today and see how my leg feels about that since walking and going up and down the apartment stairs is fine. I will get some leg work in, dammit.

Friday 02/22/13 Update

Got a second opinion on my car in the morning at a local mechanic who I've heard good things about and was told my brakes are perfectly fine and they don't need any work whatsoever, so I guess I can thank the dealership for being scammy and trying to rip me off (they wanted over $900 to completely change out the pads and rotors because OMG THEY'RE RUSTING even though I've had no problems whatsoever and the pads still have a good amount left on them).

Anyway, car rant over.

Food

Ended up at my favorite restaurant/bar ever last night with friends and had to partake in the happy hour stoli doli specials.

Exercise

I found the road to hell, and it is at the top of the stair machine. Sixty flights of stairs later and I was a sweaty dripping mess. My hamstrings are so loving sore this morning, though my pulled muscle was fine the entire workout.

Stair Machine:

Saturday 02/23/13 Update

Um...So yesterday was interesting because I was SO sore from that drat machine I could barely walk around. Like, getting off the couch was a minute ordeal. And I looked like a complete weirdo trying to walk around the grocery store. Ugh.

We made the most AMAZING chili last night. Oh my god. It is this one from America's Test Kitchen. One bowl has 38g of protein, 24g carbs, and 22g fats. And it is seriously the most filling thing ever. I barely finished it and it was soooo delicious with lime juice and a dab of greek yogurt on top. It might be breakfast today, I haven't decided.

Yesterday Foods:

I didn't go to the gym for the aforementioned reason of crazy DOMs. Today there will be no gym because my shift starts when the gym opens and ends right after the gym closes. Weee.

Monday 02/26/13 Update

I was filling in a shift I normally don't work today in a neighboring town when I decided to stop in the local grocery store and see what kind of fruit and veggies they had and found blood oranges on sale. Four for $1. I wish I had gotten more than four because they are delicious.

I ate some things:

And lifted some things:

Barbell Squat:
- 55 lb x 15 reps
- 55 lb x 15 reps
- 55 lb x 15 reps
- Didn't feel these until the end. Ouch.
Barbell Shrug:
- 65 lb x 5 reps
- 75 lb x 5 reps
- 75 lb x 5 reps
- 75 lb x 5 reps
- Power shrugs, I still suck at these
Standing Dumbbell Shoulder Press:
- 15 lb x 15 reps
- 12 lb x 12 reps
- Failed
Seated Calf Raise:
- 45 lb x 10 reps
- 55 lb x 15 reps
- 55 lb x 15 reps
Weighted Exercise Ball Crunch:
- 8 lb x 15 reps
- 8 lb x 15 reps
fito2sa

And signed up for my first 5k with some friends!

The run is It's GlowTime! on May 11th. It looks awesome because you paint yourself with fluorescent paint, run at night with black lights then have a party afterwards. Basically it sounds amazing. I was really surprised at how many of my friends wanted to sign up when I started asking around, so it looks like we're going to have a good sized team to keep me motivated.

Then I agreed to run a mud run with one of my friends in June, which sounds just as fun. And I'm trying out a yoga class this week. What am I becoming

I really loved how our "possible one inch of snow" turned into nearly five inches. Ugh. Anyway, I spent the day doing a massive aquarium clean which took all day and left me a sweaty mess (lots of full bucket carrying, scraping and de-liming). I really had no desire to go the gym but I went anyway!

Then we ordered chinese food because the kitchen is still destroyed because I'm not done cleaning the aquarium. I ordered a thing of steamed veggies and filled up on that before eating the other things...I think that went well!

My eats:

Some other things:

Barbell Squat:

- 85 lb x 5 reps
- 85 lb x 5 reps
- 85 lb x 5 reps

Barbell Bench Press:

- 65 lb x 5 reps
- 65 lb x 5 reps

Oh hi there!

Tuesday 03/05/13 Update

Yay snow!

I didn't get to the gym Tuesday due to snow (that pic is from today after the plow went through a couple of times). But I did do a lot of fun kettlebell work at home including goblet squats. I forgot how much I love goblet squats.

I also found out I was officially made a full member of my work co-op, so I am off probation. WOOHOO!

George has been sulking and acting super mopey the last week. This involves refusing all food even his favorites. I thought I'd try something new and stuck a big fat juicy cooked shrimp in there for him for a few hours, but no. He wanted nothing to do with that either.

Blurry tank shot including mangled apple snail who got himself stuff on the filter intake:

The most emo fish of them all. Eat your shrimp George

And here are my eats:

And here are my kettlebell fun things:

Goblet Squat (kettlebell):
- 35 lb x 10 reps
- 35 lb x 10 reps
- 35 lb x 10 reps
- 35 lb x 10 reps
Kettlebell Clean and Press:
- 15 lb x 10 reps
Kettlebell Press:
- 15 lb x 15 reps
- 15 lb x 15 reps
Standing Dumbbell Triceps Extension:
- 15 lb x 7 reps
- 15 lb x 7 reps
Bent Over Two-Dumbbell Row:
- 25 lb x 10 reps
- 25 lb x 10 reps
- 25 lb x 10 reps
Rocking Standing Calf Raise:
- 35 lb x 15 reps
- 35 lb x 15 reps
Weighted Crunch:
- 8 lb x 15 reps
- 8 lb x 15 reps
fito2sa

One thing I had forgotten was how AMAZING goblet squats are. I find myself getting a much deeper, better squat in when I do these. I think in the future I'm going to do goblets and barbell on the same day with some goblet squats thrown in on non-lifting days to train myself into going deeper on my squats. I know that's a problem I currently have, I can't quite go parallel with the bar so hopefully this will help.

Oh no I hope George is going to be okay!

And you must live in the same country I live in! Or... you're unfortunate for getting snow.

Goblet squats are the best things to get a nice deep squat. I few months ago I had to go back to them to get my form fixed, and they are really helpful. I think if you find your squat is deep now and you got the hang of it you should just go for the barbell. Do a few practice squats with just the bar, and then gradually add weight. You'll be like "ppffffft, this is easy shmeasy!".

Hey and degu question... What kind of cage do you have? I have two degus who were supposed to be friends, but they are totally different and don't get along. Napoleon is so chill and loves to explore! Dexter is a little spazz case, still loves pets, but freaks the hell out if he were to explore. Anyhow, I have a wooden one my uncle made for me, but unfortunately it is really starting to smell after a year of having it, no matter how much I clean it!

I was thinking of making one with three large clear plastic bins, lining the insides with chicken wire (small chicken wire), putting plywood on the bottom and putting things to climb and jump on, and connecting the two bins with a third bin and separating it with a wire mesh so maybe the could get used to smelling and seeing each other... and maybe be friends!!!

Anyways... I'm not sure, and wondered if you were a degu cage expert.

I'm disappointed to hear your wooden cage is getting smelly, I keep hearing how wonderful they are and easy to clean because you don't have to deal with bedding being thrown out. The SO and I were considering building a gigantour one for our 5 males (I know, we have a lot. It happened when two of our "three females" suddenly became pregnant. SURPRISE!). Anyway, I do have some thoughts for you on my experiences with wire cages... can you get PMs? Otherwise I can email you and we can enjoy some degu cage chat.

It's too bad your degus don't get along. What things have you tried? I successfully got several degus who disliked each other and fought to be ~Best Friends~ but it took a lot of effort. On the other side of this was Apple, who hates all other degus and has tried to maim and kill the three different females I've introduced her to. The only degu she gets along with is Cabbage, her brother, but they have to be closely supervised because I don't need more degus.

Note to all of you folks interested in degus: They like to dig, especially when it means dumping bedding out of the cage, I swear. Also prepare for more hair pulling and slap fighting than the Bad Girl's Club.

Poor George! Feel better soon! I do think that an emo fish sounds hilarious, and he is so pretty! Also, I just learned the word degu! Also-Also, great work outs, I have got to get with the goblet squat craze!

George can be super . I've caught him laying on the sand in a self built wallow staring out at the world with the utmost expression of melancholy.

Yes! Do all the goblet squats! They are amazing.

Edit: Actually in that tank picture above you can see him resting against the purple fake plant and contemplating how no one understands him.

Made of monsters

Emo fish makes me giggle like a loony! I do hope he's OK, though. Poor misunderstood George.

Also, giblet squits FTW! They're great for so much, especially causing awe-inspiring butt DOMS. Everyone should do them! DO THEM NOW!

Too much Breaking Bad, not enough Working Out.

Yes! I have PMs, please help me get them to be friends.

I am not really sure how
I got them to be switched in cages for four weeks so they could smell each others scent. Then I tried to introduce them and Napoleon almost killed Dexter.

Oh dear about your wrongly sexed degus. It would be cute if Dexter were a girl and little babies appeared! Maybe not...

And.... Do all the goblets!! (figure I should put some fitness in there.)

I have to admit, the babies were super adorable. When they were super tiny hams I would pick them up and wrap them in my shirt and they'd fall asleep in a big pile. It got to the point that they'd all squeak and warble when I came over and run up to be cuddled. Then they hit puberty and got snooty and aloof, haha.

Wednesday 03/07/13 Update

Went for a run today, and it was nice to see I could still run for 20 minutes solid even though I was a little slow.

Runs--

Running (treadmill):
- 0:20:00 || 1.6 mi
- Slowest run ever, but glad I can still run 20 minutes solid without issues.

WHAT IS THIS

Yay running!! I am currently running at a faster speed and then walking to try to remember what running at a not-slow pace feels like...it ends up at 12:30ish a mile with 2 min/1 min run/walk intervals, so who knows. Also treadmill runs are the worst, cannot wait until spring. Bought a neon pink blazer today to try and will spring to get it's rear end into gear and melt all this snow.
