What's this?

GJ-bu is the story of a guy who has been forced to join a school club, the GJ-bu (Good Job) by four girls. It's based on a light novel of the same name, as well as the spinoff series "GJ-bu Chūtō-bu" (GJ-bu, Jr High School Division).
It's another series in the vein of such classics as K-ON and Hidamari sketch and it's basically about a bunch of quirky characters chatting to each other and being adorable.

The Main Cast (From Left to Right)

Shion Sumeragi (VA: Suzako Mimori)

Shion is a genius with several older brothers who are also geniuses, she's generally shown sat at a PC playing virtual chess against grandmasters and beating them. However, despite being smart it appears as though she's had a sheltered upbringing, so she doesn't know how pot noodles work. Kinda dull.

Kyouya "Kyoro" Shinomiya (VA: Hiro Shimono)

The protagonist of the show, he's a soft spoken dude who the girls make fun of yet seem to be attracted to or whatever. Is also insanely good at combing hair and half heartedly objecting to things. Can power up and transform into ORE-MAN which is like the manliest thing ever.

Kirara Bernstein (VA: Chika Arakawa)

Essentially a cat, spends her days eating huge piles of meat and speaking in really short sentences. Likes baseball. Can talk to cats. Terrible

Mao Amatsuka (VA: Maaya Uchida)

The president of the GJ-bu. She's really short, which she takes advantage of in order to get her beloved kids meals (with the little flag). Picks on Kyoro whenever she's bored or annoyed, which is pretty much all the time because that's how comedy works. Spends a lot of time nowadays acting like a little girl for some reason.

Megumi Amatsuka (VA: Yume Miyamoto)

Mao's younger sister. Spends her days making tea and being really nice. The best character.

Introduced Episode 7: Tama

She's basically a spoiled brat who eats like a motherfucker. Played by the girl who played Dekomori in Chuunibyou (a.k.a the best character) so she says "des" a lot. Starts off being lovely but becomes integral to the cast's dynamic.

There's also a bunch of little sisters who got introduced in episode 6, they are all terrible (except Jill).

Kyoro's younger sister is a brocon.
Kirara's younger sister is a canadian who doesn't speak much japanese but can write it well so it doesn't matter.
Mao's youngest sister has like a magic hate mask or some poo poo.

What can I expect from this anime

- Cute girls chatting
- Tea
- A maid twirling
- A feminine dude being harrassed by girls
- Hair Brushing
- Basically an anime that isn't deep at all, but is good honest feel-good viewing.
- Every character is in love with Kyoro

How can I watch

It's just been picked up by Crunchyroll so please check it out. For some reason they decided to call it GJ Club though, ruining the title.

Definitely Anime of the Season so far. I anticipate every new hair brushing scene with bated breath.

I told you already, it's pronounced ugzofdodwollicasjab!

I remember being mildly interested in this when Zorak put up the Winter anime thread, but then forgot about it. I'll check this out as the episodes come out in order on CR.

Spurd.

It's kinda creepy how most of the voice cast is under 16.

New VAs have to get their foot in the door somewhere though, and they're doing a good enough job so who cares?

I love those Jojo poses Kyoro did when we went all ORE MAN on Tama. This show is pretty fun.

The main dude more than makes up for it. He's *really* good and kinda the only reason I stuck through past the first episode which felt like 4 koma hell.

I was a bit iffy on the idea of GreenHair being a character they just sort of threw in half way through the season, but I actually thought she ended up being pretty funny and a good addition to the show's dynamic.

I decided to watch the first 2 episodes, and this show is pretty much like any 4koma series, but I'm enjoying it. I'll probably end up watching the entire series.

Not gonna wear that.

Watched a couple of episodes, not bad. Fits into the same niche as A-Channel and Acchi Kochi, though so far I'd rate those two a fair bit higher. Still, it fills a hole

I'm not too keen on Green myself.

New GJ-bu was pretty good though, gave a decent examination of the sacrifices Megu makes to be the best character

That explains it. Nice to have VAs acting out roles that closer to their ages than what usually happens, and I approve of its coverage of hair brushing; Can confirm that their acting is genuine

For the longest time, I thought this is what worked about two of the three main characters on Penguindrum. Sometimes it sets an interesting scenario to put an actor on the role of somebody within his/her age bracket, because you're getting a much more honest response.

Show gets the official K-on! seal of approval.

I get really distracted every time I notice their eyes have a :-) face in them.

Latest episode wasn't really that great compared to some of the others, the only point of it seemed to be to get the sisters and the GJ-bu interacting with each other so that any new episodes can have all the characters at once.

Anything with the absolutely charming maid and her twirling is a good episode for me, goddamn. They really got things right with her.
(maid twirl gifts are on the internet, I am satisfied)

e: Gotta say that the speech feels slower than other series, often "freaking slow". Most Japanese I hear and poorly speak is rapid entertainment-business talk, closest to this speed is nicovideo's ojiisan (artist & dark souls player); Fhe rate most dramatized, acted Japanese really goes at might finally be getting to me.

The newest episode was a lot better than 8, solely based on the addition of maid hairbrushing.

It does raise the question of what would happen if Kyoro were to brush his own hair while dressed up as Kyoroko, though.

I can't help but wonder if this entire thread is an incredibly subtle joke about the banality of the anime industry or something.

I hate gays almost as much as I hate good posting. Also, God is good. Amen

I am enjoying this show. I still have some more episodes to catch up on, but so far it doesn't disapoint. I can just watch it and enjoy it.

It reminds me a lot of "Seitokai no Ichizon" in the sense that nothing happens, but it is still enjoyable for some unexplainable reason! Also, makes me think of "Lucky Star" if all the characters on the show were bipolar.

Apart from that face it didn't feel like they really ran the jokes to completion this time, though. (Also, Mao cut her hair for the crossdressing part! Although it grew back out immediately.)

get murked son

I only started watching this show yesterday and I'm already at episode 7. It's such a chill show to just unwind with, all the characters are pleasant and the humor has just the right amount of tact to keep you watching. It's very pretty looking as well, that pastel color scheme and that gleam everything seems to have. I like how the main character has a crush on the maid and it isn't even anything weird or perverted as you'd expect from other shows, he's just astounded by the idea of an actual real life maid.

edit: Also I'm kind of a sucker for all the different credits sequences.
