![]() http://vimeo.com/51135962 <<Watch the Video! ![]() STAR CITIZEN http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/ At some point we have all done it, We have all had the "dream". The dream of what a "good game" in our view is. The dream of what we want it to be, what it could be, and what a good game would have in it. Star citizen is this to me, and I would dare to bet a portion of EVE Online players, Star Trek Online, Star wars fans and many other space SciFi fans will feel the same about Star Citizen! Chris Roberts, maker of the famed titles "Wing Commander","Freelancer","Privateer", after a 10 year break from the gaming industry has announced his return, focusing on creating the next best thing for the PC gaming world. The game that is going to push the envelope of technology of today. Roberts Space Industries (RSI) is focusing on immersion and fidelity, connecting the player to the experience through strong attention to detail. THE GAME While the game is pre-alpha and remains under production, the best way I can mange to even begin to explain this game, is through comparison to an older but well known title "EVE Online" developed by CCP. Star citizen to me is what I always wanted EVE online to become. RSI has opened up the experience of space, from just piloting a space ship by ones self or in a fleet. To cooperatively manning a ship with a crew/friends on board assisting you in operation of the ship, its guns and fighters. Being able to dock your ship, inside a larger player owned ship, or walk freely through your ship and others are just some of the smaller items to be implemented into the game. The most important element to me about the game that I find, is that Star Citizen is a Sandbox title, designed around a universe built by the players, for the players. Not Something controlled by the "title overload" such as many other MMOs on the market. Much like EVE online, everything sold, flown, destroyed etc.. was at some point created by another player. Star Citizen offers various avenues to play the game as well, much like eve online. Either through combat and destruction, Piracy, diplomacy, Industry, Market Whoring, Freight/transportation.... the list goes on, a player though can play the game to their style, be that attacking other players, or flying a load of supplies to the next star base. There is something there for everyone. ![]() The Company Robert Space Industries (RSI) is currently getting their support and funding through crowd funding,so far the company has raised over 8 million in revenue to support its development. Through package offers and subscriptions ( http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/ ), to which supporters can contribute at the lowest $30.00 and be assured a spot in the alpha testing or at most $2700. Each package also comes with its own set of perks and benefits, to include some out of game collector items (such as ship models, books, maps etc.) Also included in the package are unique ships, that will be instantly available upon release date. Though there remains some confusion in, the ships being fully destructible, will you automatically receive a new "premium ship" if yours is destroyed? (a support ticket for clarification to RSI has been supported and ill follow up at a later post) I personally went for the $275 - Rear Admiral package, as it seems to be a fair step into a game that I personally want to see succeed and offer what I feel is a ship that best describes my play style/enjoyment. Though there are more affordable packages that also give some great perks, and items that would also suffice a future pilot. ![]() ![]() Conclusion... for now! The Games expected release date is Nov. 2014, though alpha testing is scheduled to start this summer, and continue through into release. I will remain enthusiastic for the title, but yet optimistic like every other game that ever showed an ounce of possible success to me. One thing that does reassure me that Star Citizen and RSI have it in them to be both different and successful, is Chris Roberts open agenda to be selective in any financial backing he gets, avoiding the mainstream Goliath's out there such as EA and other chronic cancers of the game world, strict focus on the PC market, and his passion and background in the SciFi realm that he brings to the development of Star Citizen. His intent to build a game based on his and the communities design, to me is something that speaks volumes. While we wait in anticipation, I will continue to update and follow the development of both RSI as a company and Star Citizen. If anyone else cares to contribute please do, I apologize in advance for the lacking of substance in my initial report, though the amount of information confirmed is limited at the time being, as more becomes available I will update. For now I hope this is enough to spur everyone's interest, I direct anyone reading to the RSI website (http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/) register an account, and jump into the forums. I have come across a lot of open discussion, some of which I feel might actually be spearheading some development in the game. Thanks for reading! -Omar PS. Not trying to steal the spot light to previous threads on this topic, I originally was unable to find one an thus posted one. While this game sounds amazing and I'm sure I'll pick up a Constellation or something at some point a release date of 11/14 is a looong way off. Will definitely throw some cash at the company to get in on the alpha though. Ramming, looting, stealing etc. yes please!
