![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DsMuHIjCMU Did you ever play The Stanley Parable? It's a mod for Half-Life 2. If you played it, chances are you're a fan. If you haven't, then you can go play it now, or, you can wait for The Stanley Parable: HD Remix to come out! ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB4AR5Crb54 That's right, just like Dear Esther, The Stanley Parable is being turned into a bona fide retail game! With fancy new graphics and fancy new choices and startling plot twists, this version of The Stanley Parable will be the definitive version, presumably. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ-IcS7mRSk If you want more information, I highly recommend checking out both the game's Greenlight page, which takes itself extremely seriously, or watching some of the embedded trailers in here. ![]() I also highly recommend checking out the updates on the game's official site, which provide extremely helpful insight into game development. So far, the Helpful Development Showcase series has focused on Creating doors that don't kill the player, Forklifts, and a topic I think we could all use some advice on, Admitting you've made mistakes. Wow, I am impressed at how little attention this is getting, because the Stanley Parable is pretty great! The problem about selling people on it is that there really is no way to do so without spoiling some of the better parts of it. I would go with how it deals about "Choice in games". I've yet to play Walking Dead which apparently handles this pretty good, but The Stanley Parable does a fantastic job, even if it at times it isn't very subtle, and is more of an analysis than an actual game. If anyone is interested in "Choice in games" they should definitely try this game because goddamn. On that note, the other day I was thinking about something regarding dialogue choices, how they basically came down to "Respond nice/be good/happy" and "Be an rear end in a top hat/angry/evil"; in short, select-a-mood. Then I remembered Stanley Parable parodied that exact same thing. So loving pumped for this one. Also, the second video on the Narrator's channel is great too.

I love that video. It's actually a pretty interesting thought experiement involving a hypothetical opposite of the Stanley Parable - and why it would be utterly meaningless.

An article on Dear Esther, The Stanley Parable, and fate.

Really looking forward to the remake, I love how something that is technically so simple and amateur can surpass the majority of mainstream high-end games simply through clever and imaginative writing and one great voice actor. It's hilarious how the guy doing all the mapping for the remake was hired accidentally through miscommunication, too.

Another Helpful Development Showcase, this one about game length. These have never failed to make me genuinely laugh out loud.

The mod was cute, but like Dear Esther and Gravity Bone/Thirty Flights of Loving I really don't feel like playing for somebody's experiment with narrative in games that has about 20 minutes of actual gameplay.

Nah, Raphael was more eloquent. I can't wait for whatever next project this guy does after Stanley. It's going to be brilliant, too.

I was only vaguely amused, but I confess to have lost my composure and having a good, loud chuckle after reading that last line. Well done.

I would love to see this kind of game on the ps4. Here's hoping having pc architecture helps.

I'm not sure if the PS4, even with its PC architecture, can handle the Half-Life engine. It's the stuff of dreams. And, drat, that David Cage guy is a bully. I know for one that his patented method does not work as advertised. Why, I felt no emotion whatsoever playing Heavy Rain.

I have never played the original Stanley Parable. Should I do so in order to see the changes and improvements made in this or should I wait and get the best experience first?

You play that, son, you play that game right now. The best experience is the one that you can get without expectations.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention OP, I loved the original and had no idea a new version was coming out. I'm a sucker for art games that aren't just pixel puzzle platformers with "deep messages" and interesting narratives in any medium, so this game was more or less made for me. Going by the trailers so far this is going to be even better than the original, and they haven't actually shown any gameplay!
