Age: 22
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 145

I used to be fat. Really fat.

195lbs

then I started lifting weights and eating a ton of eggs. Eggs are awesome. I lost 60lbs in a year and did no cardio aside from hiking every now and then. Cardio sucks.

135lbs @ my sister's babby shower

Next, stupid life poo poo happened and I moved across the country. For six months I ate nothing but junk and hardly any eggs.
Then, I journeyed back home to the West Coast Best Coast and (finally) started lifting again!

Thanks to some help from Pointsman, I've decided to myself for a 225lb deadlift, 1rep by June 23rd.
And since that is going to be hard, I also want to do 2 chin-ups and squat my body weight.

Really short workout today due to conflicting work schedules, which is the norm for my mid-week workout. Took lots of rest in between deadlift sets today because work hammered me something fierce these last few days (physically demanding jobs can only be fun sometimes). I still don't feel 100% but I did go and eat a fat stack of chili cheese fries after working out.

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words everyone. Definitely looking forward to having a more focused goal in regards to lifting.

Speaking of focus, I kind of don't really have a good gym routine. Before, I deadlifted maybe 3 times a week and my gym sessions were basically go in -> deadlift for 30 minutes -> leave. Occasionally I would squat, but I never bench pressed because I didn't have a spotter. When I started lifting again I tried to spread things out so my heavy deadlifts wouldn't interfere with my new found desire to squat a reasonable weight. Also, I've started benching again because I have a gym buddy.

My week sort of looks like this now:

Monday: Barbell bench, triceps extensions, incline dumbbell bench, and standing dumbbell presses (or barbell ohp). Maybe assisted pull-ups if I can remember.

Wednesday or Thursday: Deadlifts (used to be squats but now there is constantly a group of dudes in the only power cage when I go in) and whatever else I may have time for. Usually bench to work on form still, or just pull downs, or hyper extensions, or whatever I can squeeze in before gym buddy has to go to work.

Saturday: Squat day and basically do anything else that looks interesting. If I didn't bench on Wednesday, I might bench here, or do more triceps extensions, or I might tack on deadlifts because they are so fun for me. Saturday is also usually a hiking day but sometimes that gets diverted to Sunday.

Every time I go to the gym I try to do a chin-up and eventually just settle for negatives.

My gym is small, it is pretty bare bones, and I'm kind of surprised they let me steal bars off of benches to deadlift in the middle of the "trainer and floor exercise area" since the power cage is usually occupied. It's only $10 a month, but I'm probably going to go back to 24Hour Fitness if I can convince myself and my buddy to pay upfront for a two year membership because we have two of them in my city and they are both pretty decent, albeit hugely crowded during "peak" time.

Anyways, this is probably more rambling and less focused than my gym routine! If anyone has any advice at all it would be greatly appreciated.

Have a picture of my dog as a thank you.

Went to the gym twice today to hammer out this pathetic workout. Squats in the morning and deads in the evening because my lifting partner was "too tired and hungry" to keep up with me. We bounced after OHP and went to breakfast. Of course, I ate all the eggs and sausage.

I might have overdone myself? but I kind of like coming back to the gym after a few hours to eek out a little more lifting time. Also the gym was pretty much empty, which was a lot of fun!

Going to take our two dogs hiking tomorrow on what I guess is an old fire road. It goes through the land of a functioning ranch, so I'm hoping for cows. So, have a hiking picture:

Today, I went for a hike in a place I've never hiked before. Around the halfway point, we stumbled upon a really weird thing. I think it was some kind of water tank thing on the side of the trail? It was... dressed up in what essentially boils down to a female jogger's clothes. Running shorts and t-shirt. The creepy part was the fact that there was hair on this thing. Not like a wig, not enough hair for that. And it was placed out there somewhat recently because everything looked clean and it rained here last week. Freaked me out but I didn't want to stop and turn around, it was probably nothing but the hair just freaked me out.

Hike was otherwise good! Super windy and a little cold at first, but the walk back was fabulous and the scenery was gorgeous as per usual.

I've slowly been progressing in my bench by lifting the next heavier weight two times, then three times the next work out, then four times, until I hit five reps. The fact that this has been working makes me happy because I never trained bench before. Can't wait until I can bust out 100lbs. Also, hitting 50lbs in OHP felt good today. Today I did baby holds and suitcase walks.

My sister flew in with my nephew this morning, so I had the pleasure of taking the off of work to pick them up at LAX and get them settled in. This also included a celebratory trip to In-n-Out since apparently the East Coast Sucks And Doesn't Have Good Food.

This was also the first time I've ever had to hold a baby and apparently saying "It's like holding a dog, right" is funny to my sister.

Hopefully I will be able to find time to lift a thing tomorrow at some point, since the boyfriend goes into work an hour after I get off. Might have to go to the gym by myself.

Well last week was extremely busy. Had to cover for one of my co-workers whose job works in conjunction with mine, so that became pretty hectic. Monday is my last day of doing that, for a while, at least. Then I spent a few hours on Friday night in the ER waiting room because the boyfriend's second degree burn became infected (burns are common enough for him, but not infections). He's doing better and all the nastiness involved with infection has subsided.

We finally made it to the gym today, and when I was stretching before squats my left quad just tightened up really bad.. so we started with bench instead while I kept trying to make my leg function. Went light on squats, ignored deadlifts. Did manage to PR on bench though, so I figure it was a good enough day. I'm just glad to be back at the gym, and I'm excited to deadlift later on this week.

He works saute at a fairly busy Italian place, so having 8 burners and various hot pans makes for burn central or something. Hopefully now he will start letting his manager know when he gets burned.

Deadlift day! For whatever reason, my right quad still has the "must get tight and weird" issue when I warm it up, but it didn't hamper my lifts and I only really felt it after doing a body weight squat on my way out of the gym. I guess my body is mad at me for taking a few days off lifting. Gym was over crowded this evening so I bounced after deads and some OHP silliness.

Also, when I went in today I was greeted by the sight of some jungle gym monstrosity in the general floor exercise area, i.e. the area where I usually deadlift if the cage isn't free. Ugh. I'm not even sure what to do with this new toy, but I do know that instead of getting a new Olympic bar for it (it has this weird thing the bar attaches to?) they just decided to use one of the bench bars.. i.e., the bar I usually steal to deadlift with. Next time the owner is in I'm going to have to ask him to buy real equipment instead of even more poo poo people do pullups on.. or that weird medicine ball trampoline contraption they recently bought. I just want a few more olympic bars! We have plenty of stands for them!

Thanks for the kind remarks and interest in my progress. I've been extremely busy with work and life stuff as of late and it doesn't seem to have a stopping point. Been covering coworkers' duties on and off, and I'm in for a week of that starting on the 8th, then trying to learn (at some point) how to invoice a different set of orders than what I already invoice for our accounting manager, before she leaves for her two week cruise at the end of April. Not really a big deal, but I want to get it taken care of so she won't stress out even more so before she takes off.

Gym stuff has been... well, it's been okay. I had a lovely day on Monday because I ate poorly on Sunday and had no fuel for the fire. I also messed around on the monkey bars a bit, and watched some women my mom's age actually do free weights. Awesome!

Went easy again because I'm going to be swamped with work and need to be able to move around. Oh well. I'll have to start deadlifting again this weekend or else I might just snap.

Felt really sick and light headed on Sunday when I worked out, but today I felt great. I'm glad to be actually seeing the inside of the gym again, even if that means I get to hear PTs loudly exclaiming that they 'mistaked' something.

In other news, I am going to deadlift 225 by the date I set and nothing will stop me.
