Hi As some of you know last May (2012) I applied for a 7.62x54R Tiger rifle. The civilian version of the SVD dragunow russian DMR "sniper" rifle. I have finally received this rifle and oooh god is it bad rear end! First, the story on how I got this rifle in weapon hating socialist dreamland Sweden I applied for the rifle in May 2012 as I said above. In August 2012 I got denied the application because of BS reasons that had nothing to do with anything resembling the law. I of course appealed this decision and after pressuring the judge last fall I finally got my day in court. I got to meet the Swedish police so called weapon experts that probably know nothing about either weapons or the laws in Sweden. They had hardly even fired their service guns when I asked them about their experience! They basically wanted to ban everything because it looks scary. Anyway. I had to inform them in court that I had a lot of court cases in the highest courts in Sweden backing me up and that the police do not get to make politics in Sweden. Our representatives do that and the courts interpret the laws. Not "judge dread" police people... So I won in court. And because of the worthless communications in the police the one responsible for my case never appealed it because she went on mother leave for 6 months Now I had to find a rifle I wanted. I contacted 2 gun stores in Sweden that was distributors for the European importer of this rifle. Neither even bothered to answer my email. So I contacted the European distributor to see what they had in stock since these rifles usually are made in small special order batches. The one with the awesome wood stock that I wanted was sold out long ago. And they only had the composite stock version with the shorter barrel in 7.62x54R. And I wanted the full length barrel. So I was hosed, I though. But then the sales manager contacted me and said "hey I have a private gun dealing business and I have a showroom example, never fired, that you can get for $kind of cheap". Awesome. This was the SVDS version, but with full length barrel. So I applied for this, got my license. Got my import permit. Got the export permit from Germany. And then he sent it to me. With a German firm that required personal delivery and id check + signed documents. But in Sweden this firm hands the parcel over to the Swedish postal office which sucks badly. They lost an AR15 upper in the post last fall for me and this was no exception. After calling around Europe I finally got my parcel ID number and tracked it to my local tobacco store. Where I picked up a fully functioning SVDS. YAY! ![]() ![]() I have 3 10 round magazines for it. But they are really hard to find. I would have to pay 100 euros each for them if I wanted more. The posp 4x on the rifle is only temporary as it is intended for my AK and has the high mount. I have ordered the fixed 8x posp with low svd mount but customer service in Belarus is awful. So it will get here eventually. I expect ~2moa with surplus ball ammo out of this rifle. With handloads I might get it down to 0.5moa. The factory test fired it to about 1 moa. I will update this thread with videos and more pictures as I take them. I also got a sweet manual to this rifle with actually kind of good English. Signed by everyone that made the rifles with a lot of fancy Russian stamps etc. The rifle was made 2011 in the Izhmash factory in Izhevsk. Notable differences between this rifle and the military version. Bayonet lug is missing. The rear iron sight only has markings for 100, 200 and 300m. Also stampings are different. The original SVD has a lot of differences from modern ones as well. The dust cover is not ribbed on newer ones and is much thicker. Also the barrel is heavier on the SVDS variants. Mine especially since it is a special version with the original long barrel. The milled receiver is missing the original lightning cuts for greater stability with a wide variety of loads. And ofc the polymer handguards and folding stock. I have also contacted a fixer guy in Russia to score this thing: <- Not my rifle <- not me ![]() Since the handguard is semi free floating you should never attach a bipod to it or even hold it to get max accuracy. This solves this issue. You attach this piece of metal to the receiver and a bipod at the other end. It also functions as a hand hold as shown in the picture. Not sure when this arrives. The Russian guy needs to manufacture it for me but it is popular with Russian long range shooters / snipers that use the SVD. Questions on this? Updates to follow.

Cool man, congrats on the sweet rifle. I'm happy you get to enjoy a little bit of true american style freedom over in Sweden. If it makes you feel any better, your story makes me appreciate what gun rights I do have, even as a Californian, a little bit more. Considering how much cool poo poo I still get to have at comparatively little to no hassle. Hopefully it stays that way and we don't go all New York up in this. That's neither here nor there though, enjoy your rifle.

I have to motivate a need and be able to document it as well. = Give the police results from competitions etc. I basically had to start my own shooting club, rent a shooting range. (which is awesome, it is a bunker beneath a mountain 10minutes from where I live) and everything else that comes with having a shooting club. A lot of hard work has gone into making this rifle possible. But mostly as a parking space for caravans and house cars during the winter. It used to be an underground tank parking space for the army. Edit: Best pic I have of our family bunker

ZenMastaT posted:Really nice gun, way to persevere too! Would wood be difficult to source or are you happy enough with the polymer on there? Polymer is fine. It is functionally superior to wood. But wood is ofc nicer. Atticus_1354 posted:How long is that rifle? I love long rifles as long as I don't have to carry them around. We have our own rulebook we use to motivate a need for our rifles that is basically "any semi auto rifle". For now this is legal. But the police want to make this illegal and add 10000 new hoops to jump through. We basically have until the summer of 2014 to buy whatever we want for the rest of our lives. Sten Freak posted:It's probably too expensive but you could install some sound damping foam or tiles. Kind of hard because the walls are not "walls" but basically jagged rock. Nothing to put the foam on really. What we have been talking about is putting up rubber walls that would be self healing = more shooting angles for IPSC for example. And no ricochets. Also just to make myself clear. I am not going to magdump hundreds of rounds of crap surplus through this rifle. I am planning on getting more rifles in x54R in the future like a mosin nagant for example. Those rifles can shoot the cheap stuff while I reload for the SVDS.
